What jeans are we wearing?

Just that, really!

I have broken the skinny jean habit that I’ve had for years, and have been wearing White Stuff Freya jeans, but think I need something slightly wider at the bottom to wear with trainers / boots over the winter.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Not sure if it’s important, but I’m mid 40s, size 12-14 and about 5’ 8, with a bit of a tummy!

Thank you

but i haven't seen any of my friends or colleagues wearing them in literally years. i wonder if it's an area thing?

I saw someone in skinnies today.
I think it is possibly a rural thing because we usually get a lot of rain and mud, and skinnies tuck into boots.

HostaCentral · 03/09/2025 22:42

I'm still high waisted skinnies with trainers or knee length boots and big relaxed shirts or jumpers I'm afraid. It's my look, and it will never change! I am 5'6" and 60. Size 12, with thin legs, small bum and a bit of a tummy.

OneTrackMindToday · 03/09/2025 22:57

Since breaking up with skinnies I've really struggled with jeans! Finding a pair that fits well and looks good, and goes with something in my wardrobe, is so flipping hard! I'm mainly wearing Abercrombie relaxed 90s jeans and a few ankle crop straight leg jeans but it's a pain as my tops, jackets and shoes don't work with a lot of them. I've also discovered Lucy & Yak Addison jeans which I LOVE with a crop tee/jumper

Rina66 · 03/09/2025 23:08

M & S Boyfriend Ankle Grazer jeans are good with trainers and boots, just cropped to about an inch above the ankle bone, I always get asked what jeans they are when I’m wearing them.

What jeans are we wearing?

High waisted wide leg, mainly. Skinny jeans were so short people friendly, though!

Yes - they really were! 🤞🏼they’ll come back into fashion because I’m not going to give them up!

Delphigirl · 03/09/2025 23:16

Levis - 724 (straight)
Reformation - Cary lowrise slouchy wide leg jeans
Frame - The Loose in Rundown (from Trilogy)

PS I have a very short back and wear 32" length in flats despite being only 5'5

Floisme · 04/09/2025 07:49

Nothing makes my legs look shorter than skinnies. I don’t get this argument at all although it wouldn’t stop me wearing them if I still liked them.

TheBeaTgoeson1 · 04/09/2025 07:59

I’m wearing some kind of standard super low rise Levi Jeans, I think it might be a straight leg, or a slight boot.

I have utterly rejoiced the phasing away of skinny jeans, not because I ever embraced them, but because it was so incredibly difficult to get anything else. I’m also absolutely loving the return of low rise, Hated high-rise, because I have a 25 inch waist, but quite substantial hips and bum 😫

evilharpy · 04/09/2025 08:13

Wide leg high waist

Mum (i need them to be quite slim cut, if they are too loose I just look dumpy)

My beloved Sainsburys barrel jeans, also have some from Whistles but Sainsburys are better

whatisforteamum · 04/09/2025 08:41

Next dark rinse bootcut

notasgreenasiamcabbagelooking · 04/09/2025 08:41

I have these in 3 colours, although they might be a bit short for you at 5'8" (I'm only 5'4"). Most Spanish jeans are really long, but these are almost perfect for me, and the black is a real black, not that faded grey look. Apologies for link to Spanish site.

Never stopped wearing skinny here. Anything else doesn’t look right. Only in black, grey or brown - never blue denim.

Diggetydawg · 04/09/2025 09:10

Wide leg all the way, either mid or low rise (which is actually mid) mine are from Levis, the XL Straight and Next. I also got a pair of those Uniqlo Baggy Curve jeans yesterday and I love them ! They'll ne good for when it's raining as not so flappy around the foot.

I've worn these to death. So comfortable.

Blinky21 · 04/09/2025 23:44

Abercrombie curve love, either Mom or skinny, which aren't skinny at all, more a slim fit or uniqlo wide leg

Angrymum22 · 05/09/2025 00:17

I managed to buy a pair of Gerard Darel jeans off Vinted. They are a French brand and the cut suites a more athletic figure. Uk styles seem to favour the pear shape, narrow waist and big around the hips and thighs. So to get a good fit around the waist all jeans end up looking baggy around my thighs and bum. The French seem to be skinnier in these areas so for me they fit better.

I resurrected a pair of lightweight wide leg trousers this year that are 20yrs old. They were perfect. I’m off up into the loft tomorrow to see if I have any of my vintage 80s stuff left. Apparently it’s the next trend. Wallis and Jane Norman are very popular on Vinted at the moment. I’ve seen a dress advertised from the late 80s that I know I still have up there.

I also have a vintage pair of 501s that I’ve never been able to throw out despite not being able to get into them since 1994. I’m currently on a weight loss journey and it would be great to be able to fit in them by Christmas. They are my motivation at the moment.

Blingismything · 05/09/2025 08:09

I am the same size and yesterday wore M&S Mom high waisted short length for a 1980s feel. With Hoff City trainers. I have also been enjoying their high waisted cropped slim fit jeans, these are very flattering on my slight apple shape. I have a pair of barrel leg from TU that I haven’t worn yet. For wide leg I have M&S high waisted smart wide leg jeans, these are lovely for the cooler weather as they are a darker colour.

JumpingJackBlue · 05/09/2025 08:10

I read skinny jeans are coming back into fashion. I find baggy or flared jeans are very unflattering on most people particularly on the butt

Floisme · 05/09/2025 09:51

We've had predictions of the return of the skinnies for a good couple of years now. I'm sure they'll be back at some point and, yes, I know they've been spotted on the catwalk. But where I am (not a fashion destination) I think the balance has probably only just tipped this year from 'all styles - anything goes' into a wider, looser leg being the dominant shape. Now that they've made the switch, I wouldn't expect too many people to be interested in changing back straight away, although autumn/winter weather will reign it in for sure.

evilharpy · 05/09/2025 09:55

I would be happy to never wear skinnies again. Slim yes, skinny no. They are awful for those of us who have heavy legs.

I just wouldn't wear something that didn't suit me in the name of fashion.

Belladog1 · 05/09/2025 10:03

I would love to be able to wear jeans. I am a weird shape. I am a size 16-18, and have a belly. When I put jeans on initially I feel great, then I see the stomach and I hate them. I have tried to get jeans with more detail at the front as when they are plain fronted they seem to highlight the pooh bear stomach.

I went into Debenhams about 10yrs ago now. I didn't care how much the jeans cost, I just wanted to own some. I paid £110 for a pair, I can't remember the brand. I put them on with pride, went to work in them ...... and after sitting all day and looking in the mirror when I got home, I realised how fat I looked. I have never worn them since.

I live in leggings and a long top

BestIsWest · 05/09/2025 10:07

TU wide legged (not the ultra wide legged).
I’ve also got M&S Girlfriend and Magic slightly flared in dark indigo.

It's a lot easier now but a few years ago it was hard to find anything other than skinny in the shops.
