Wedding dress for 50 year old, second marriage, not keen on fussiness

Not even sure about white/ivory versus a bolder colour.

I know people will say wear whatever you want but I don't know what I want!!!

I don't want to look like mother of the bride but equally don't want to be all trussed up.

In normal life I like tailoring, dark rich colours or pale blue, and nothing fussy or frilly/girly.

Wedding would be very small, during winter and either in a nice small hotel or registry office tbc.

Thoughts and ideas please! Especially about white vs not!

Understandable and that is a lovely dress!

I'll start a new thread as it's much more specific and the request about the top only now gets a bit lost on here.

Actually Reformation has quite a few other possible tops - eg have a look at the Miller, Chloe, Kylen and Avery styles.

I think with a skirt and top you need something a bit luxe to avoid it looking too work-y.

Definitely agree now on the lux feel.

Winter weddings can be a gift style-wise. You can go a bit richer and more interesting without it feeling over the top.

From what you’ve said (tailoring, no fuss, not frilly), I’d probably steer away from anything that feels remotely ‘bridal section’ anyway. That’s where the trussed-up feeling lives... and where the budget can quickly get busted.

I’ve seen some brilliant second-time outfits that feel much more like the person:

  • a really sharp velvet trouser suit (dark green, navy, even plum)🔵
  • bias cut satin dresses in off-white or champagne, really simple with a cowl or clean neckline 🍾
  • longer dresses in unexpected fabrics (saw someone in a crocheted full-length number recently that was incredible 😍

When it comes to colour, white isn’t a requirement, it’s just an option (and if you feel it suits you). If you feel better in deep tones or pale blue, that’s probably your answer right there. People tend to look their best when they’re not uncomfortable all day - it shines out of you when you feel incredible.

With a smaller winter wedding, something tailored or clean and unfussy can look spot on – especially in a hotel or registry setting.

Also £350 is very doable if you look beyond ‘wedding’ shops.

Good luck and happy shopping 👛
