Wedding dress for 50 year old, second marriage, not keen on fussiness

Not even sure about white/ivory versus a bolder colour.

I know people will say wear whatever you want but I don't know what I want!!!

I don't want to look like mother of the bride but equally don't want to be all trussed up.

In normal life I like tailoring, dark rich colours or pale blue, and nothing fussy or frilly/girly.

Wedding would be very small, during winter and either in a nice small hotel or registry office tbc.

Thoughts and ideas please! Especially about white vs not!

Would you get a very, very light fake tan done in Salon OP ?

It's a good idea but no I wouldn't to be honest.

Love the gold Wyse dress. Good work @Mamamia35

this Ralph Lauren is lovely

QuornPlaster · 03/09/2025 19:28

I’d rock it with a sharp suit a la Bianca Jagger / Jackie Brown (Pam Grier).

Jewel colours with a fantastic shirt - the world’s your mollusc towards winter/Christmas period - velvets/metalics… & you can wear it afterwards.

BeaLola · 03/09/2025 19:30

Wow - there are so many wonderful dresses already linked

The only thing I would say about velvet is think how hot you may be (?) if you're inside next to a log fire or the hotel/restaurant has great central heating .

I would definitely go for a dress and perhaps have a neckline where you can show off a fab necklace or amazing earrings and great shoes 😊

Went down a Ralph Lauren hole thanks to this thread and found this beauty

I’ve bookmarked that for an event I have at Christmas.

Yeah I know. I said you can get them cheaper/second hand. You can't buy vampires dresses anymore new as they went out of business. They are bloody gorgeous though, and you can get one for £350.

Can you? Oh that’s more reasonable then.

HappyMuma · 03/09/2025 20:49

Virgos Lounge has some fantastic necklines in very bold colours!

There’s a 6 left, worth a try?

I know it’s over budget but this fits the interesting neckline and tight waist. Love the bold colour too https://www.adolfodominguez.com/en-gb/draped-long-dress-woman-293021087152.html

or this https://www.adolfodominguez.com/en-gb/crinkle-dress-with-cape-woman-293031272152.html

That's particularly gorgeous!

Bit worried about being swamped though by some of the long ones as I am short.

Oh so there is. Might be a squeeze on the hips but worth a try.

Utterly love the Dominguez one!

Anyone of any height can wear a long dress. Your long dress won’t be the same length as the one someone 6ft would wear - but if the proportions are good you’ll look just as impressive.

For your wedding dress it would do no harm to assume you’ll want to have some alteration done to make it absolutely perfect. (Assuming you’re buying and not renting!)

I like a portrait neckline on a wedding dress
