Annual Style and Beauty Advent Calendar discussion thread. First AC reveal this year was 23rd June. First luxury reveal was 2nd July.

Thread 1: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/5360770-2025-style-and-beauty-advent-calendar-discussion

Thread 2: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/5388836-2025-style-and-beauty-advent-calendar-discussion-spoilers-thread-2

Thread 3: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/5396898-2025-style-and-beauty-advent-calendar-discussion-spoilers-thread-3

The regulars on the thread mainly discuss luxury BAC and this dies down by September when everyone has purchased and forgotten the contents. Then it goes into discussion on what’s selling out, what hasn’t and what deals and discounts to be had on ACs in the lead up to December. Then in December we move onto AC opening threads!

There’s a separate thread for GWP, discounts and other deals here: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/5389635-beauty-chat-freebiesgifts-with-purchaseoffers-thread-four

A thread for the Liberty Beauty Drop here: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/5253698-liberty-beauty-drop-spoiler-from-the-despatch-date-part-9

MN has a great Christmas board for deals and early gift buying here: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas

Just got my Liberty, tried the Trish Mulberry lipstick - it's quite a cool colour and as mentioned it's very barely there. Nice and creamy but pay off is lower than my lips but better. Will use but not buy again.

Love the bag, huge and thick fabric.

Elle beauty is down to £109 if anyone is tempted

I was looking at this a lot until I decided on the Harrods BAC. It includes a lot of mini skincare products so I think it's good for someone who wants less makeup. I'm now after something with a bit more makeup but I think it's a good calendar.

Just recieved an email to say glamour are doing an advent this year.

Do you have a link for the wait list @MentyB ?

I've been toying with the idea of buying either CB or SNK, but I've just gone back through them with how I decided on harrods, and found that with the amount I really want out of them, they're not really worth it for me. The value out of the SNK doesn't even come up to the value of the advent calendar (£259.50), cb is slightly more at £286 - even harvey nicks is more (£424) 🤣 Comparing this to Harrods (£1237.61) 😕

IlovePond · 04/09/2025 15:35

I went to an HBeauty just now to pick up an order. We are currently stuck in horrendous traffic and unlikely to get home any time soon. DH has pointed out that with tolls and petrol and time I should have just paid the £6.99 postage. (Or not bought it at all!)

Anyway - I visited the beauty and hair/skincare calendars whilst I was there. It’s so much better seeing these things irl.

The beauty calendar looks lovely, but there are too many DOD and small sizes for me.

I almost bought the hair/skincare calendar - it’s got a much better range of products than last year, but then I looked again at the sizes. They are mostly sample/trial/GWP sizes, which is disappointing given £99 is not cheap. I could hear: ‘GWP, folks, GWP!’ ringing in my ears as I left.

It’s a lovely box, though - a really pretty pink colour.

Put it this way, if someone bought it for me as an unexpected gift, I’d be thrilled, (fat chance!) but I wouldn’t pay that price for it myself.

Is it just me, or is anyone else really uninspired this year? The prices seem to have gone up and the quality down - I just checked out the Harvey Nicks calendar and went 'ugh' at a full size (woo!) blush in the sort of pink that Aunt Sally from Worzel Gummidge would think was a bit on the bright side. I just can't get excited about any of them - Vogue was a particular low point. I would have loved it the first year (but it sold out) and every year since has been really meh. Sorry - just being a moaner :)

I do think that beauty calendars are sometimes used as a way to palm off unsellable stuff. Thinking particularly of Vogue and their ‘bag charm’, as well as last years granny scarf.

HolaLolla · 04/09/2025 16:26

My Selfridges BAC just arrived, that was extremely fast considering I am in NI 😲😲
the box is gorgeous and sturdy, but the corner of the lid is ripped 😭 I only really ordered it because of the box and few other bits, so its a bummer the box is damaged. They don't do replacements, only return and repurchase, which is not ideal as I bought a gift card to purchase this, so by the time I return and get a refund it may sell out 🤦🏻‍♀️ anyway, the customer service girl was lovely and said they will see if they can send me an empty box 🤞🤞

I mindlessly read an article recently about designer bag charms and boggled at just how much money some people have to waste on what looks like tat to me.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 04/09/2025 16:54

@IlovePond this is why I didn't chance my arm going to my local H Beauty to try and get the fragrance advent. Mine is at the Metro Centre and is truly a pain in the arse to get to and traffic is always horrendous. I think I've been once in the past 10 years. If there was one in Newcastle City centre that would be great for me (although also rather dangerous!)

They've just opened an H Beauty near me, in a very convenient shopping centre with free (abundant) parking. I popped in yesterday for the first time and omg it is beautiful. It's very dangerous. To be honest though, it's a very expensive shop and I'm not sure how long it'll last there.

The metro centre is my 'local' hbeauty too. I'm in Leeds 🤣 so it's a proper day out. We usually get our hair done there, try to get our makeup done at the dior counter and have lunch in the champagne bar. I take my mum and we get there for when it opens and are there pretty much all day.

IlovePond · 04/09/2025 17:24

I’m jealous @JoRaRaRa and @RainbowZebraWarrior - the Metro Centre looks exciting.

The traffic was awful getting to HBeauty today, I swear I almost went to the Champagne Bar on my own. DH and DDog would NOT have been amused.

I got a free sample of a Creed perfume with my bargain Gisou. I have just put some on now and, oh my goodness, it is vile 😿I smell like I have been smoking, so I guess it’s got tobacco (yuk) in there somewhere. I have just had a shower, but may have to go in again!

The Gisou lip oil looks lovely, but it’s going in my DIY calendar.

Another one here who's local H-Beauty is the Metro Centre. I do wish they had a SNK too, but the one im the city centre closed down a few year ago if im correct!

@OvaHere 🤣🤣 hang in there!!

IlovePond · 04/09/2025 18:01

It’s a shame I really don’t like the Cult Beauty advent because I do like the idea of the £20 gift card! Plus, when I added the code BACKTOSCHOOL it put another £15 gift card in my basket.

If others were offering a few incentives I would be more interested in buying - I am an absolute sucker for a GWP or small discount.

IlovePond · 04/09/2025 18:03

Did someone say the Elle calendar was reduced? I can only see it for £130.

Thanks

Every time I see Elasticizer it puts me off the whole box. Why is it in so many?? Binned my one from last year, seems such a basic product.

I'm in the minority but my hair loves elasticizer. 🤣

IlovePond · 04/09/2025 18:10

Thanks @OvaHere - it’s a shame it’s full of sample sizes because that’s a good price!
