What has worked for your ageing face?!

At 42, I feel like the skin on my face is ageing rapidly. What creams/potions/treatments have you tried that have really worked to make you look less wrinkled/tired/dead? I have had Botox before but it wears off so quickly.

40 here. My very boring answers are 1) being Asian 2) being teetotal 3) being a non smoker 4) not being a user of make up.

hayal · 30/08/2025 10:24

Im 45 dont have any wrinkles, I keep out of the sun as much as possible or wear overside sunglasses and a hat when in the sun. Drink over 2 litres or water every day, I dont drink alcohol or smoke.
I used mainly Origins products throughout my 30s but my skin changed a couple of years ago and I changed to this routine which works really well for me.
Picture 3 - morning routine
Picture 1 - evening routine
Picture 2 - two or three times a week

My skin always look better when I’ve had a good weekly intake of fruit, especially oranges

I thought my point was quite clear. Beautiful women often remain beautiful women as they grow older, without all the interventions deemed necessary by middleaged women on S&B threads. HTH.

So true, and even more so if they don't do anything. For example Britt Ekland would still be beautiful if she had allowed nature to take its course. There are many other examples.

Diet

Lots of nuts, olive oil, oily fish, no booze, eating almost UPF-free, hardly any sugar (about 1 teaspoon a day in 1 sq of choc.) spf 50.

HRT once I got to my 50s (not for vanity before anyone jumps in, for medical reasons.)

Exercise outside.

cloudjumper · 30/08/2025 10:52

Hydration - consistently drinking at least 2L water a day.
Hyaluronic acid - cheap from The Ordinary
Lots of sleep

@RetailBeans You're posting in the early hours- so are you not sleeping?
Or in another time zone?
Lack of sleep is terrible for skin and health.

@sundayfundayclub Yes, an older male friend of mine told me once if 20year olds thought you were beautiful when you were 20, 60 year olds will think you are beautiful when you're 60. And that everyone knows beauty when they see it, irrespective of age.

Face shape can hold up quite well in some people, but I don't agree 100% with you. You can watch videos of people who were beautiful in their youth and see them ageing in the video and clearly see they're no longer beautiful after a certain age.

Can I ask where you are having your facelift done?

Nords clinic Lithuania. My sister lives there and everyone goes there, all her friends. Loads of Europeans too. They have English speakers and arrange your flights and transfers, if anything goes wrong they will fix it for no extra charge. Plenty of people on tik tok go there too, there are lots of videos.
Im having multiple procedures and it will cost approx 6,000 euros. £20k would be the cost in the UK. Ill be posting before and after pics.

This plus resveratrol mixed with a pinch of vit powder . Not on tret nights though . I tend to do tret one night, resveratrol plus vit c the next, night off the next (thick night cream only).

plus no booze and a sun hat.

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 30/08/2025 17:03

@KPPlumbing I’ve just bought some castor oil on the basis of recommendations on this thread. Do you put it on at night and leave it, or wash it off? Many thanks.

Overtheatlantic · 30/08/2025 17:58

HRT, loads of water, Jojoba oil on top of ROC ultra hydration moisturiser. Sleep and lack of stress.

SoNotaRealHousewife · 30/08/2025 18:34

It's definitely a marathon and not a sprint. Probably about 6 months for me. I'm nearly 3 years in now and absolutely love it. It's one of the best things I've ever done for my skin

Yes,Tret is a marathon. I saw results in about 3 months but I should warn you that I get prescription Tret from overseas.

I have skin like a rhino so I can use a higher strength. I don't use anything else. Don't need anything else. Just Tret and any cheap moisturiser/ face wash/ sunscreen. It's a miracle worker.

PandaKitty · 10/02/2026 12:31

I’m late 40’s now and I’m amazed how much my skin has aged in the last decade. My friends who are 40 look really young to me now with great skin. But then I guess I’m a good few years past 40 so that will be why. Also when I see pictures of myself at 40 I think I look so young with no wrinkles. I only have a few wrinkles now but expression lines deepening and my face is definitely migrating downwards. I get Botox and use retinol/spf 50/various serums. And collagen. Do drink wine but nothing else, don’t smoke or vape and limit sugar. Although have just had a club biscuit. 😂 Do go running a lot, it might be making my face sag but gets rid of double chin. Try to drink lots of water. Just started on the creatine

outerspacepotato · 10/02/2026 14:12

Lifestyle. Lots of exercise, vegetarian diet, no smoking or drinking alcohol or drug use, meditation, and science based skin care for the most part. That's Vitamin C in the AM and retinol at night and sunscreen. I use CosRx snail toner because it makes my skin glow.

Buttheywereonlysatellites51 · 10/02/2026 15:45

Vitamin C serum, beef tallow cream, a couple of drops of castor oil mixed in with my night cream.
