What has worked for your ageing face?!

At 42, I feel like the skin on my face is ageing rapidly. What creams/potions/treatments have you tried that have really worked to make you look less wrinkled/tired/dead? I have had Botox before but it wears off so quickly.

loads of sleep. Not running long distances (makes face muscles sag and sun damage). Cut alcohol. Dont be too skinny.

Brownhairdontcare · 29/08/2025 08:10

Vitamin C in the morning and Skin and Me retinol at night. SPF 50 every day. I'm 46 and am so happy with my skin at the moment! I think drinking tons of water and cutting down on the booze helps too.

KPPlumbing · 29/08/2025 08:12

What vitamin c products are people using please?

Bamburghlover · 29/08/2025 08:28

Trinny London Be Your Best balm cleanser, Plump Up serum and Energise Me moisturiser. I use them morning and night. I've reordered about four times now. I'm just about to try the eye cream. Excellent products and my skin has never looked or felt better.

Botox but exercise seems to make mine wear off quickly! Decent skin care routine with vitamin C for radiance, Sun protection (separate not just moisturiser with SPF) good night cream. Drink lots of liquids. I follow Caroline Hirons skincare book for routine. Seems like a lot of steps but it doesn’t take long and I enjoy it.

This is why celebs who love exercise usually have more wrinkles as why bother, or they end up with the overdone look as they know it wears off.

Holluschickie · 29/08/2025 08:33

Tret has been miraculous for my skin. I am 53 and have no wrinkles.
But I do have sagging and jowls. Going to live with those.

TheUsualChaos · 29/08/2025 08:35

HRT! I definitely look more alive.

Also use skin and me but not religiously, especially in the summer months. I try to moisturise daily as well now as never used to do anything skin care wise but find now my skin needs it.

Disturbia81 · 29/08/2025 08:37

Sounds boring as hell but these things have seriously made my skin so much better mid 40s. Not got any sag or neck wrinkles etc yet as stayed out of sun most of my life.

Plenty of sleep
Lots of water
No smoking or drinking
Working out adds muscle supporting structure to face and neck
No sunbathing or tanning beds
Keep healthy so less chance of conditions that need medication
Keep stress low

I did start getting botox a few years ago but found I don’t need it right now so would rather save the money and keep being able to work out

What vitamin c products are people using please?

I bought Garnier vit C serum and i would not recommend it - the smell is awful and it is quite sticky.

id love a recommendation too.

I am using once a week Dr Dennis Gross peel pad, Olay SPF30 with niamicide for the day, retinol twice a week and lots of moisturiser every night! Very little alcohol, no cigarettes, lots of water.

Collagen & Biotin from Nutrition Geeks
Lots of water

I second collagen. I have been taking capsules, which have definitely made a difference but have decided to try the Nutrition Geeks powder this time. Am expecting it today! I drink black coffee though so am not sure it will work in that, might have to get some juice to have it in. Did debate getting the biotin too, do you think that is an added benefit?

LizzieSiddal · 29/08/2025 09:03

Lots of water, little alcohol, good sleep and a very good moisturiser.

GameOfJones · 29/08/2025 09:20

Having a skincare routine that I stick to and can be consistent with. Consistency is key so for me I keep it to something that I will actually do every day:

Morning - cleanse with micellar water, then a vitamin c serum, then apply SPF

Evening - cleanse, tone, peptide serum, night cream

For my evening toner I alternate two so every other night I use an acid toner which exfoliates my skin and helps my skin look brighter. I use a soothing rosewater toner on the other nights.

Lymphatic 5 minute facial massage every so often. I usually do it a couple of times a week when I'm in the shower or bath and waiting for my conditioner to do its work. Example here: https://www.instagram.com/reel/C3jlEgVL2nv/?igsh=MWRzanRvYXQ3MGl6aA==

Then the boring stuff. Plenty of water, healthy food, limit alcohol, don't smoke or vape, get enough sleep etc.

I’m currently using one by an Italian brand called Florence https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hyaluronic-Anti-Aging-Wrinkles-Brightening-Suitable/dp/B076611KCY

Thank you, just bought it!

Lottapianos · 29/08/2025 12:25

@Disturbia81 , completely agree that all the lifestyle stuff is at least as important as the products you use. 'Good' skin is a sign of health, so if you want your skin to look great, look at your nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress, hydration

Re skincare, cleanse thoroughly (no wipes or micellar water) morning and evening, use a separate SPF of at least 30 every day, consider using tretinoin, use a serum to address any skin concerns like dryness or dehydration

DappledThings · 29/08/2025 12:27

Insouciance. It has a 100% success rate.

JustPassingThruHere · 29/08/2025 12:33

Dermatica treatment and moisturisers are great.

Mauvehoodie · 29/08/2025 12:40

Skin and me tretinoin (also has niacinimide and azaleic acid in it)
Collagen and hyaluronic acid supplements
Just started trying the ordinary Argeline and matrixyl (put the Argeline on first on wrinkly bits then some matrixyl, which also contains hyaluronic acid, all over)
I have used Corsx snail mucin before which is nice and also this hyaluronic acid which I think is the best one and not too ££ as you get a really big bottle.

I feel I'm probably blessed genetically as my dad has great skin but I still do whatever I can to prevent wrinkles and get my skin to be the best it can be without procedures.

I use spf 50 everyday always. At the mo I like garnier vitamin c spf 50 serum/lotion. I also use a vit c serum under that I'm using skinceuticals at the mo but skin+Me also do a good one.

I drink a collagen powder drink everyday.

I then use skin+Me every night for the Tretinoin (very strong prescription only retinol) I've used them since they started about 3 years ago and really rate them, there's a link to get 1st and 5th month free just £3.50p&p you can cancel or pause anytime. I slug my skin once or twice a week with nivea after I've applied my skin+Me.

I have a school reunion tomorrow - we're all 65. Think I'll try that solution.

muddyford · 29/08/2025 16:09

I'm 62 and have no lines or wrinkles. Partly genetic but have used SPF since my early teens as I had an outdoor sport thee days a week. I exfoliate twice a week, ditto hyaluronic serum, ditto vitamin C serum, but on different days. I use Australian bodycare facial wash, St Ives scrub, Simple moisturiser and same range for other stuff, then Nivea SPF 50 for sensitive faces. I think it's never missing a day that is key.

Buttheywereonlysatellites51 · 29/08/2025 16:21

I don't like to spend a lot of money on my skincare. I mix a couple of drops of castor oil with my normal evening moisturiser. It's made my skin much smoother since I started using it.
