I bet Kate went home yesterday, saw the gazillions of disparaging comments about her hair and said ‘ffs, someone put a toner on my hair!’

I do prefer when Catherine has her hair tied back and it hides the blonde. I’m sure the black suit wasn’t what was originally planned but she looks good. I like the blouse, and I’m not usually a fan of extra flounce.

Kate and Sophie look lovely. I don't think Kate's hair colour is different.
Did Sophie go prepared knowing Katherine Kent was ill or was there emergency shopping? Perhaps they always have a black outfit on tour

@gingercat02 I have read that when royals travel, they always take a black outfit in case anyone dies, so they can look appropriate.

I didn’t make a connection between Kate and Sophie wearing black because the Duchess of Kent died. I guess that’s still a protocol for them.

It apparently goes back to when Princess Elizabeth became Queen and didn’t have a black outfit with her. She flew back to the UK and when her plane landed a black dress was taken onboard.

Given it was 1952, it was very important that the first photos of her being greeted as Queen by her PM (Winston Churchill ) showed her in mourning. Those photos would have been syndicated worldwide.

When the late Queen's father died she was abroad without a black outfit to wear.

Someone had to bring her an black outfit to the plane when it returned to the UK so she could change before meeting the reception party.

The late Queen decided that a black outfit went with every foreign tour for all the family so they would never be caught out

Sophie’s shirtdress looks like it’s drowning her a bit, and not sure it goes with her shoes?
She also wore black but with a pattern for a later engagement.
Kate’s hair does look better tied back and isn’t overwhelming her face like it did when worn loose. Her outfit is giving me barrister vibes though!

I’m Greek and when a family member dies we wear black for 40 days. I always travel with a couple of black outfits in case I may need them. Unfortunately I have done on a couple of occasions. They are the first things I pack.

Sophie looked good in the black dress (in most of the photos). I agree that the shoes don’t work with the dress, I wonder if there’s been a bit of a panic to get her some appropriate clothes as presumably her ‘tour wardrobe’ had been planned for many months. I may regret saying this but like many women I think Sophie has certain styles/brands that suit or fit her better. With no time for alterations (and limited choices) she may be having to make the best of what’s available.

And yes, Kate’s blouse is very Austin Powers but her hair looks better than earlier in the week and she looks like she’s genuinely enjoying herself.

Just realised Camilla didn't wear black today, but Charles did.

Camilla wore a black armband with her blue tartan suit.

Kate looked great. She suits her hair back off her face. I love that blouse.

I'm deeply envious of her being able to wear the blouse even though it's not particularly my taste. As the owner of a substantial chest any sort ornamentation on the top half is a complete no no for me.

The Duchess was one of those rare royals about who no one had a bad word to say. Everyone seems to agree she was a good egg!

Yes, spotted the black armband on Camilla’s tartan at the Braemar Games. She was also in tartan for church today. Guests included Joanna Lumley and the Starmers.

I really like Joanna Lumley's coat.
