Sad news about the Duchess of Kent, I really feel for the Duke as he has looked increasingly frail. Comforting Jana Navotna at Wimbledon was such a big deal at the time as the RF were mostly hands off at that time.

Thanks @Choux for the video. I was curious as to why, in the still images, it didn't quite look monochrome and seemed to catch the light rather cleverly. A silky fabric makes perfect sense and I can now happily conclude that it IS genuinely as lovely as I thought/hoped it was.
(Designers of all the anonymous ‘ditsy’ prints that do nothing aesthetically except move fabric from the ‘plain’ to ‘patterned’ category take note: this is how to do a small, all-over print.)

Sophie attended her public engagement in Canada today in black following the DoK’s death. She looks lovely in a non patterned non boho dress. Am not sure how long she is there for but if she has to wear black for the rest of the trip she may need to send someone shopping.

And Madeleine went to the 50th birthday party of the founder of H&M. I don’t think her dress is from H&M and really stands out against the black outfits.

I wonder why she didn't wear H&M? The dress is an interesting choice, it reminds me of the dress Meghan wore to an awards event a little while ago. The one in the Hertz building. It was quilted gold - this one reminds me of that.

I think her daughter Lady Helen Taylor is a true beauty, a real English Rose.
Apparently DofK’s mil wasn’t so keen on her as not aristocratic enough !!!
Her father was a Sir, so “minor” aristocracy but DofK was oh so classy.
When you see revelations of PA at the moment, the Duchess was a real asset.

As I understand it, @deeahgwitch , the Duchess turned to Roman Catholicism and some low key teaching and charity work, eschewing royal official duties and most events. It probably led to them spending more time apart. I don't think we know what goes on in any marriage. Clearly, they went through turbulent times.

Yes, the Duchess lost two children so she was no stranger to tragedy. And kudos to her for never attending Wimbledon again after they said she couldn't invite the child of a murdered head teacher into the royal box with her one year.

I had heard that too, but have seen photos posted on twitter this morning of the Duke walking arm in arm with his wife to her weekly hairdresser’s appointment, which apparently they often did together. And they both apparently lived in Wren Cottage at Kensington Palace, so who knows?

The Duke is now the oldest living member of the BRF and turns 90 next month. He has been Duke for 83 years!

I imagine they had an arrangement that suited them in terms of the Duchess not taking on royal duties and the Duke supporting the Crown.
