Hello, I have this Dress & it's just perfect for me in every way.
I have major body issues & I never feel like I look nice in anything, but this dress, I did.

I wore a Cream Cardigan with it, it has a frill pattern along the edge that matches the detail round the neckline.

The problem : I had one specific event to wear the dress to (which I did) & the next one is in October so I'm worried that I may need more warmth.

I contacted a Dress alteration service & she quoted £150 to add sleeves to my dress (I can't afford that)

So : I'm looking for the exact same dress with sleeves Grin no more than £30 ideally.

Or something very, very similar, has to be a dark colour for this event. Black (I don't like Black but I will go with it) Navy, possibly Burgundy/Emerald Green type colour. Very little/no pattern. Knee length.

Size 16.

I think you will have more luck getting your one altered.

I think you will be able to get it done much more cheaply than the £150 quoted.

Thank you justtootiredtoday I've never had anything altered so don't know who to try really. So many companies come up on Google but I don't know which are going to be any good etc.

Where did you get it from? Can you look on their website and see if they have something similar.

Don't get sleeves added. The fabric won't match and it won't feel right. It will also cost closer to the 150 than the 30 .

Worst case - get a long sleeved v necked (or round neck) in as close to the dress colour as you possibly can and wear it underneath. Chuck on the cardi as well if you want.

GiveMeEverything · 09/07/2025 14:27

Thank you onceuponatimeinneverland No they haven't got anything similar. They have a lot with the floaty/see through sleeves which I love but I don't think they will be warm!

My go-to in winter is a short sleeved dress with a long sleeved top under so I have them in all colours, but I just don't think that they look very smart.

Obviously if time is running out then I'll just do that. I have plenty of time to look round the charity shops etc as well, for a long sleeved dress.

Have you tried New Look? They tend to have lots of dresses in that kind of style.

KentuckyFriedPigeon · 09/07/2025 22:25

Honestly I wouldn't worry about sleeves. If you feel great in that dress then wear that dress. It's fabulous and would be fine for October especially with a cardi.

GiveMeEverything · 09/07/2025 22:54

Thank you KentuckyFriedPigeon. I'm really gutted as I'm absolutely in love with that dress, but it's a cold building, I was cold in there the other week so I think that I need something like sleeves as well as the cardigan.

musicmum75 I havn't, thank you.

PenguinLove1 That's nice but I don't like the length. I prefer knee length or there abouts.

Thank youSmile

I like this one but I'm not sure if the print is too fussy.

What is the brand of it?

OhNoFloyd · 09/07/2025 23:04

I wouldn't alter it. I'd wear a thermal body and tights underneath it and a cardi over the top and I'm pretty sure I'd be warm enough!

GiveMeEverything · 09/07/2025 23:14

Ooh I like that one waitingforever although it's a bit long & sack-like maybe!

OhNoFloyd I will probably end up doing this. I did have tights on the other day & it was my arms that were cold.

3luckystars I'm not sure what the brand is but it's just a cheap one. I've put it away for a month or so, so that I don't end up mislaying it or something (this is the sort of thing that I would do!)

potplantsinparadise I'd seen that one, I do like it but I'm not sure if it's dressy enough.

I'd wear a tailored cropped jacket with it. Or the retailer you brought it from may bring out a winter version in the coming weeks, you have time.

GiveMeEverything · 09/07/2025 23:27

Thank you Everybodysinthehousetonight Yes, there's no rush.

I think that I might just try it with a long sleeved top underneath as I'm assuming that it won't look right but I don't actually know!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 09/07/2025 23:30

Wear a long sleeved top underneath. Something with a scoop neckline so that it doesn't spoil the neckline of the dress. Uniqlo do Heattech long-sleeved, scoop-neck t-shirts. I don't know if they are in stock now but they will be back in by around September if not.

FrillySocksAndDocs · 09/07/2025 23:48

In all honesty those dresses are screaming shein. If you can't afford to buy a decent dress new then there are some amazing deals on vinted.

GiveMeEverything · 10/07/2025 00:01

FrillySocksAndDocks I usually use eBay, I get the long sleeved tops from there, I also use Gumtree. I tried to sign up to Vinted a while ago but it wouldn't let me 'buy' anything so I'm not sure what I was doing wrong.

I will give it another try at some point.

Thank you BlackAmericanoNoSugar, Yes I think that I will do this. I may look for a ribbed one as the dress has a 'stripe' to it so it will kind of match! The V isn't a deep V so it should be easy to hide a neckline under there.

potplantsinparadise · 10/07/2025 13:18

Maybe buy one of the longer ones, and have it taken up instead? Probably easier than attaching sleeves, and more graceful than having a long-sleeved top on.

GiveMeEverything · 10/07/2025 13:27

WTDress The first one is lovely & the neckline will match with the cardigan, but it may be too low cut, & they don't have my size either.

The second one isn't showing.

Thank you potplantsinparadise I hadn't even thought of that!

Comefromaway · 10/07/2025 13:44

It's got sleeves! Or do you mean that you want long sleeves? If so, then I'd just wear a cardigan. Long sleeves won;t give much, if any extra warmth.
