Another wedding guest dress one

SIL is getting married in a Scottish castle next month; the men in the wedding party (including DH) are in navy tuxes.

What's the verdict on any of these dresses? Or does anyone have any other recommendations? I am also thinking about tulle skirts, but struggling to find tops that would work with them.

I'm early 40s, size 8 mainly (sometimes 10), 5'4, but completely carrot-shaped - wider shoulders and my hips are totally non-existent 🤣

So the v-neck, A-line/skater style is very much the style that suits me best. Pencil or shapeless dresses do absolutely nothing for me.

Would like long sleeves and I'm also quite petite so maxi and dresses with lots of excess material completely drown me.

Number 2 - the damson coloured knee-length one with the blue and white flowers. It's stand out nicer than the others imho. Lovely.

Watto1 · 05/07/2025 15:00

I like the 2nd and 3rd dresses. The first looks a bit short to me. The red one is just a bit ‘meh’ and the last is too casual.

Ruthietuthie · 05/07/2025 15:02

Number two looks the nicest to me. I can imagine Pippa Middleton wearing that to a posh wedding. Have fun at the wedding - it sounds absolutely lovely!

FoxtrotOscarFoxtrotOscar · 05/07/2025 15:03

2nd one, top right.

OopsieeDaisy · 05/07/2025 15:55

Another vote for number 2!

Thedew · 05/07/2025 15:56

Thanks all, was a little worried it was a bit casual, but second is probably also my favourite :)

I like 2 the best 🙂

Notquitegrownup2 · 05/07/2025 16:00

I like 2 and 3, too.

MayIDestroyYou · 05/07/2025 16:01

I’m afraid they all seem a bit uninspiring and (sorry) dated and just … below average to me. Someone 5’4 in height, size 8, should be able to choose an absolutely fabulous and up to the minute outfit - all of these look rather free catalogue.

Do you have a budget?

Neveranynamesleft · 05/07/2025 16:01

Another vote for number 2, the pink one, or the last one, also pink. First one looks like a toffee wrapper.

guerdyguatd · 05/07/2025 16:03

I agree they are a bit meh

chatgptsbestmate · 05/07/2025 16:03

I think 2 but.....all a bit meh for a wedding in a castle (sorry!)

Sorry, but I agree with this. None of them made me think 'what a lovely dress'.

loobylou10 · 05/07/2025 16:13

I think number 2 is really lovely.

MayIDestroyYou · 05/07/2025 16:32

If I were in my 40s, a size 8, and only wanted long sleeves, this is the sort of thing I might choose to wear to my sister’s wedding:

Agra blue dress

Or maybe this if I wanted something longer:

Zimmerman blue dress

madaboutpurple · 05/07/2025 16:33

I like the first dress ,the red one.

Coffeeishot · 05/07/2025 16:35

I like the purple one with flowers and the first pink one I think that is my favourite. The red one looks very 80s and giving me flashbacks 😀

Allseeingallknowing · 05/07/2025 16:37

madaboutpurple · 05/07/2025 16:33

I like the first dress ,the red one.

I do, but would be better as a midi.

TimeforaGandT · 05/07/2025 16:40

No. 3 for me out of the above. No.1 has very 80s vibes. Nos. 4 and 5 are nothing special. No. 2 would be my second choice but feels quite staid and could be worn by MOB.

ScratCat · 05/07/2025 16:41

I’m not honestly mad on any of them. They all seem very dated, and I think it’s the knee length ones that are worst.

A midi length would look much smarter and more fashionable.

Whataday25 · 05/07/2025 16:45

I agree they are a bit dated. I don’t like the first red one but the other red one in the middle is nice enough. It sounds like you could wear anything so I would choose something more striking.

MayIDestroyYou · 05/07/2025 16:47

Alternatively, if completely full length sleeves were negotiable, and I wanted to spend a bit less, I’d be looking at all of this brand, not just this:

Sister Jane dress

owlexpress · 05/07/2025 16:49

Oh no OP, I agree with PPs who say number none of them. The knee length/skater/floral combo is doing nothing for anyone at the moment.

If you want to show leg then commit to the mini, e.g.

Nobody's child blue

NC green

I'm struggling a bit more with the longer length with sleeves but maybe

Coast

Kitri

Another NC option

Square neck

And yes to Sister Jane if you're going mini

MayIDestroyYou · 05/07/2025 16:57

Or maxi … Grin
