I bought this dress a while ago when it was on offer

Would it be ok for Wimbledon and what shoes and bag would you wear with it? I’m thinking cream but I don’t have either!

I think you’ve found the perfect Wimbledon frock! love it.

If you’re going on 13th that’s finals day and people dress up more for that but this looks like you can dress it up or down.

it looks long enough that you can sit on a picnic rug on it which is good too.

Whatever you wear make sure it’s comfy to sit in, right for the temperature and mostly that you feel great in it. Have fun!

Wimbledon is hotter than the inside of a McDonald’s apple pie in a normal year! You need loose pale coloured cotton, a fan and a hat (being careful it’s one that won’t block other people’s view). And a ton of sun cream.

PrinceYakimov · 03/07/2025 21:25

I'd wear that. It's not too dressy at all. It will be much cooler next week if that's when you're going. Not a bad idea to cover shoulders/arms as you can easily get sunburned.

I'd wear with flats, and a wide brimmed straw hat, maybe a straw or canvas tote.Take your own strawberries.

Zov · 03/07/2025 11:15

You're gonna get hot in that! It's very dark in colour...

This (pic attached) was how I dressed when I went several years ago.

You're in the audience at a tennis tournament. You're not meeting the King and Queen! 👑👑 Grin

@Zov where did you get your artwork in the background? I love it and perfect for my living room colours. If you're willing to share details, I'd be very appreciative 😀

I think it's fine. A nice dress, beautifully simple. And don't worry anyway - people have camped outside, doubt they are worried by sartorial issues!

We’re not going till 13th July so I’ll see what the weather is like nearer the time.

13th is already looking 🥵🥵🥵 - I’m also going. Obviously that might change. But I’d go for something cooler.

Fireplacewatcher · 04/07/2025 08:16

It is nice but it is very “Julie Andrew’s in the sound of music”.

Lighteningstrikes · 04/07/2025 08:26

I think it’s beautiful.
You or anyone would look absolutely stunning in that 😍

Daffodilsarefading · 04/07/2025 09:32

Lovely dress op, wear it.

Lambzig · 04/07/2025 10:37

I was there on Wednesday. I wore a light blue maxi Me&Em dress and flat sandals, I was probably at the dressier end (but I usually am). Definitely wear something comfortable on your feet for the walking and take a hat in case its very sunny.

Delatron · 04/07/2025 13:16

It’s a perfect dress for Wimbledon (if it’s not searing heat). I’m confused why people wouldn’t dress up. Especially as many are wearing dresses. But then I love an occasion to dress up. Can’t imagine going in jeans and a t-shirt!

Myotherusernamesafunnyone · 04/07/2025 15:07

I’m here today, court 2. It’s absolutely roasting! Everyone is dressed up. 90% floaty summer dresses, a few smart shorts and tops. Not seen any denim at all and defo not casual. Have a fabulous day!

HonoraBridge · 04/07/2025 15:28

The dress is lovely but you don’t need such a formal dress at Wimbledon and I think you’ll find it too hot.

We're going to be in Hyde Park on the 13th, forecast is currently saying 33 degrees 😬😳

SheilaFentiman · 04/07/2025 16:51

I went Tuesday - beige linen trousers, white shirt, hat, nice but comfy sandals was easily smart enough for one of the nicer restaurants. I would worry about being too hot in navy if you are in the sun much.

EastGrinstead · 04/07/2025 20:13

You can certainly dress up for Wimbledon but this dress isn't suitable as it is too dark and buttoned up for current weather conditions.

A light-coloured broderie dress would be perfect.

WLMummy · 04/07/2025 20:28

Gorgeous dress and very appropriate. Shorts (unless tailored, with a silk shirt or similar) are really not appropriate. Go for it and enjoy!

mondaytosunday · 04/07/2025 20:31

That’s more dressy than most unless you are in a box. You really want to wear white and a hat.

Parker231 · 04/07/2025 20:37

The only things you can’t wear are running vests, ripped jeans, dingy trainers, big designer logos, offensive slogans, and anything with a political statement.
We’ve been in the hospitality area and I was wearing trainers - as were many others
This week I was (centre court) in linen shorts and a loose shirt - it was hot 🥵 lots of people got sunburnt

Shorts are perfectly appropriate, unless you are going to one of the hospitality/debenture restaurants.

StrawberrySquash · 04/07/2025 21:43

Lots of people in shorts, yes, but I would still say the general vibe is smarter than every day life. Lots of nice summer dresses. And men in shorts were in nice shorts. You often noticed an outfit that was just nicely smart and probably cost some money! . Long is good so that you can sit on grass and also so that your skin isn't getting sweaty on plastic seats.

And yes, shoes you can comfortably walk in. Sunglasses essential!

wand3rer · 05/07/2025 03:26

While jeans are totally fine (I wear them myself!), this dress is perfect for Wimbledon. The collar gives it a sporty vibe 😎

As for the sun, it really depends on your tickets. Many seats on the show courts are shaded.

EvelynBeatrice · 05/07/2025 07:27

To all those saying ‘ navy is too dark’, don’t you realise that many people look dreadful in white or pastels and spend their summers in dark colours while still looking perfectly appropriate? My friend wears well cut black, dark blue, navy, deep red, deep taupe cotton clothes most of the warmer months often combined with tan bag, shoes etc and looks good ( and expensive) like many Spanish ladies. .

Willow12345 · 05/07/2025 07:35

Wear the dress! I think it’s lovely and I always dress up for Wimbledon. Take a hat in case you are in direct sunlight (but you may be seated in shade).
Have a fabulous time - Wimbledon Pimms are the best 🍹

That dress is lovely, perfect for Wimbledon! Light cream or nude accessories would look great, and even tan or soft metallics could work if you don’t have cream. I’d pair it with a small crossbody and comfy shoes for all the walking. A lightweight cashmere wrap could also be a nice touch if it gets breezy. Have fun!
