I bought this dress a while ago when it was on offer

Would it be ok for Wimbledon and what shoes and bag would you wear with it? I’m thinking cream but I don’t have either!

I wouldn’t worry too much. There’s people there who have camped all night!

It does look OK though.

Absolutely fine. Smarter than most. But looks very hot for the weather at the moment. It's baking at Wimbledon

DPotter · 03/07/2025 11:08

Nice dress but a little too dressy for Wimbledon in my view. Wimbledon isn't an Ascot or Henley when it comes to dress, unless you're in the Royal Box!
best thing for Wimbledon in this weather is a hat and comfy shoes, although the shoes comment is probably showing my age!

Zov · 03/07/2025 11:15

You're gonna get hot in that! It's very dark in colour...

This (pic attached) was how I dressed when I went several years ago.

You're in the audience at a tennis tournament. You're not meeting the King and Queen! 👑👑 Grin

If you have regular tickets you can wear jeans. You don't need to dress up. Wear something comfy and weather appropriate.

bendmeoverbackwards · 03/07/2025 11:24

Awww shame, I was looking forward to dressing up! Looks like it’s a more casual affair.

This. We're used to seeing the celebs in the Royal Box in their suits and nice dresses but most people dress casually. I was watching yesterday and there are women in shorts and t-shirts!

Also to echo others, you will be very, very warm in that. Bear in mind you may be sat in the direct sun for 8+ hours! I would wear a loose fitting light coloured top and maybe long maxi skirt or wide legged trousers. The pic that @Zov has attached is ideal (but maybe not with jeans in this heat).

heldinadream · 03/07/2025 11:29

You can dress up, why not? Dress is lovely by the way.
But the point of going to Wimbledon is to watch and enjoy the tennis, and there's a lot of standing around and queuing and walking involved so comfortable shoes are a must, and sun protection. I'd want my arms covered with a light shirt, personally.

RaraRachael · 03/07/2025 11:31

As far as I'm aware there's no dress code for Wimbledon. I'm going on Saturday and will just be wearing jeans and a top. I'm not a dress up kind of person though - I just want to be comfortable if I'm sitting for a whole day and I certainly wouldn't be if I was wearing a formal dress.

Franpie · 03/07/2025 11:33

It is so so hot sat in the courts, often in direct sunlight. You want to wear the lightest, comfiest dress you own. Definitely not a dark navy one.

fluffiphlox · 03/07/2025 11:33

A lovely dress. Like others, I think unless you have an invitation to some hospitality it’s a little too much. Wear a lighter colour as I think it’s very hot there at the moment. Also something for your bonce.

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 03/07/2025 11:56

What a lovely dress but I agree with others, it's very formal.
The last time I had Centre Court tickets I wore linen trousers, a light shirt, trainers and I took a lightweight jumper for the train home as the matches can go on quite late if the roof and lighting are on

EstherGreenwood63 · 03/07/2025 12:02

I am going tomorrow and wearing jeans and a t shirt with flat sandals. However some people DO go more dressy and don't look out of place. So wear it! 😎

Shetlands · 03/07/2025 12:05

I wouldn't worry about the formality of the dress, it's the heat that will make it unsuitable. You need layers for Wimbledon as the weather can be fickle so ideally wear something lightweight and take a jumper/jacket (and a hat, sunglasses, SPF cream and an umbrella!).

RuthW · 03/07/2025 12:09

Perfect dress. I always wore a nice dress whenever I went. Remember, never lower yourself to other people’s standards. Dress to please yourself.

babbi · 03/07/2025 12:15

I have been this week and it’s unbearably hot 🔥
I think you should choose something light in colour and breathable fabric .
Enjoy ☺️

Lafufufu · 03/07/2025 12:17

Wimbledon is a real mix(at the races vs tramp life) but you will be boiling in that.

Go for white cream oatmeal or pale blue those were the main colours (for practical reasons)

Also bring ANY hat you can find... you'll want it

I went yesterday i wore a light 2 layered silk dress with wedges i wish I had worn...

My Navy cotton barbour shorts, white uniqlo bratop, blue and white striped cheese cloth / cotton shirt l, comfy Trainers and Straw hat.

Do not underestimate the amount of walking!
I did over 20k and was sat on my arse watching tennis for hours my feet were wrecked

You can dress up if you want to!! I am one of those people who always dresses up for no reason other than that I like to look good.

Lafufufu · 03/07/2025 12:31

Also yes 💯 dress up if you want (mine was max mara ooh la la!) but that dress just looks so hot and you wont be comfy.

Most of the dresses i saw were light Silk or cotton dresses in bright or pale colours that would be a better choice IMO

Lavendersquare · 03/07/2025 12:36

Nice dress, but too workish and hot looking for Wimbledon.

You can still wear a nice summer dress; it's not obligatory to wear jeans and a t-shirt just because some MN posters wear that (can't see past that). I would wear a dress.

TheChosenTwo · 03/07/2025 13:12

It looks like a formal kind of work dress/office wear to me, I really like the dress!
I don’t think you’ll look silly wearing it at all but I think most people go more casual unless corporate/hospitality.
and yes cream bag and shoes would work fine with it all.

Lindy2 · 03/07/2025 13:16

Unless you've bagged VIP tickets most people don't dress up for Wimbledon.

You'll be doing lots of walking and the weather can range from scorching hot to raining all day.

I'd recommend trainers and at the moment, shorts and a tshirt with a cardigan in your rucksack.

The dress is quite nice but you'll absolutely boil in it and will look out of place.

RoosterPotato · 03/07/2025 13:23

I’m surprised at these responses. Loads of people dress up for Wimbledon. I go every year and think this would absolutely fit.

Do you have seated tickets? I went this week in a very dressy dress and was far from alone. Lots of women in smart outfits and boater hats etc.

If you only have ground passes and will be just picnicking on the hill it may be a bit different but you definitely wouldn’t look out of place in the court seats in that.

Hoolahoophop · 03/07/2025 13:33

I dressed up the couple of times I went. Pretty dresses, but comfy shoes a sunhat and sunglasses. Lots of people were well dressed. That dress does look a bit warm though.
