I bought this dress a while ago when it was on offer

Would it be ok for Wimbledon and what shoes and bag would you wear with it? I’m thinking cream but I don’t have either!

I think it’s a lovely dress for Wimbledon. My only comment would be you want to be cool as no shade!

I went a few years ago and wore a dress that was dressy (I’ve also worn to a wedding) and didn’t feel at all out of place.

wear what you like and enjoy it!

MummytoBoth · 03/07/2025 16:22

Gorgeous dress perfect for Wimbledon

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 03/07/2025 16:28

@bendmeoverbackwards dont sit too neat the princess of wales!! she might nick it off you! it is very smart.

Clawdy · 03/07/2025 16:33

Lovely dress! Wear what you want, I'd certainly wear that.

Morenicecardigans · 03/07/2025 16:41

I was at centre court yesterday and the majority of people seated near me were "dressed up" women in lovely dresses and men in chinos shirts and jackets or linen suits. I enjoy the opportunity to dress up and drink pimms in my seat while watching the tennis. Its all part of the occasion. So if you want to dress up OP you won't be alone.

Blingismything · 03/07/2025 17:00

Take a hat and comfortable footwear. Love the dress.

gianfrancogorgonzola · 03/07/2025 17:15

Lots of people dress up, lots go in shorts and T-shirts. We have CC tickets for next weds and am thrilled we are near the back so guaranteed shade all day. check your seats to figure out whether you’ll be in direct sunlight and plan from there

Lovely dress and it's 100% viscose so will be very cool to wear. Think people get confused with chiffon polyester type fabrics which can be unbearably warm in hot weather.

Bailiwitch · 03/07/2025 17:41

I think some people never wear dresses at all (and associate them with major life events) so don’t understand just how comfortable and easy to wear a dress can be.

Certainly the one the OP links has absolutely nothing restrictive or awkward about it. She’ll know if she gets on with viscose or not. And it’s a Ghost day dress from JL - not a Valentino ballgown. Grin

I went on Tuesday which was the hottest Wimbledon on record and we had seated tickets, you would not have been ok in that dress, it was hotter than hell. I went casual, skirt nice top but wanted to be comfy which trust me, will be your biggest concern.
have a great time!

Ihopeyouhavent · 03/07/2025 17:48

Why wouldnt it be ok? I dont get it?

LlynTegid · 03/07/2025 17:50

Looks stylish, you'll be better dressed than a lot of people no doubt.

WimbyAce · 03/07/2025 18:28

Pretty much anything goes at Wimbledon tbh. Some people dress up but equally some people are v casual. I would wear something you are comfortable and can keep cool in.

We were there Tues too!

Lovely! Wimbledon is quite relaxed vibe. My advice is comfy shoes. You queue for yonks for food and drinks. Plenty of woman ( Inc me) in trainers with a dress. The ones that M&S do every year white with a gold lightning bolt on them was the type that most caught my eye ( but maybe as I have a pair from that range). It's a lot of time standing up and was on court one. Was lost hours just queueing for eats. Biggish tote bag or a canvas tote and pack comfy shoes if nothing else

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 03/07/2025 18:41

I think it's lovely. I always like to wear a nice dress for Wimbledon.

There is a real mix of outfits so it would fit in fine if it weren't for the heat. As others have said it is very hot there.

EvelynBeatrice · 03/07/2025 18:45

You can certainly wear the dress if you wish and I don't think you’d stand out. Many attendees will be in executive boxes with formal ( rather boozy) lunches in the dining rooms and they dress accordingly.

The last time I was there it was very hot and nearly all the women I saw were in dresses of various kinds with smart flattish shoes or sandals or even trainers. A hat and sunscreen are a must!!

tobee · 03/07/2025 18:57

I've just come back from Wimbledon today with a ground ticket! Seating down people watching for a while people were wearing all kinds of things! Shorts and t shirts and suits and ties and smart casual and heels and flats and trainers and long dresses and sun dresses and cocktail dresses and jeans and linen - absolutely anything goes!

Wear what you like in my opinion! As long as you're comfortable and happy! It's lovely to see such a mixture of styles; lots of people looked great!

Ignore the people saying it's too dressy! They don't know what they're talking about!

bendmeoverbackwards · 03/07/2025 11:24

Awww shame, I was looking forward to dressing up! Looks like it’s a more casual affair.

Go to Henley next year. Love your dress, would look good with a Boater and white trainers.

tobee · 03/07/2025 18:58

Zov · 03/07/2025 11:15

You're gonna get hot in that! It's very dark in colour...

This (pic attached) was how I dressed when I went several years ago.

You're in the audience at a tennis tournament. You're not meeting the King and Queen! 👑👑 Grin

What a sneering comment!

Perfect dress. I always wore a nice dress whenever I went. Remember, never lower yourself to other people’s standards. Dress to please yourself.

This!

That is a perfect Wimbledon dress, although with this heat possibly too warm for this year.

ThatBusyRoseLion · 03/07/2025 19:46

I think that dress is lovely and wouldn’t look out of place at all at Wimbledon. There are plenty of people dressed up. I wouldn’t wear jeans as they would be very hot. I also wouldn’t wear white incase I dropped a strawberry!

itsmeafterall · 03/07/2025 19:58

Lots of people are dressed up so go for
It. It's not ascot posh but I was there this week and many women in lovely dresses. If you love this one then go for it.

Marmunia10667 · 03/07/2025 20:50

It's a bit dark for the sun.
