Well style mavens, that last thread went quickly! Let's hope we get more royal fashion to analyse. I think we need some tiara action, though.

Love that latest picture of Charlene (but please stage an intervention with Albert’s white DJ).
liked Catherine’s look yesterday, I’m in awe of anyone who can wear that much white and keep it clean.
I’ve been musing in the shower while checking my 10 different levels of tan and wondering how I’m going to even it up, you rarely see Royal ladies with tan lines (notable exception Zara on her wedding day). How do they all manage to look so “even”? And if they are wearing sunscreen how do they not get those horrible stains on everything?

KiIIingMeDeftly · 13/07/2025 10:30

I've seen photos of Kate and Pippa in their younger years and they looked pretty standard for young women living in Kensington/Chelsea in the mid to late 00s. Which was very different to how young women in Camden or in Dalston might've dressed at the time.

Maireas · 13/07/2025 10:31

@chesterelly1 an Albert intervention is necessary. We need to call in Felipe.

They dressed what was befitting of their circle & lifestyle. I just would not say this was the average fashionable look a similarly aged girl aimed for at that time.

gingercat02 · 13/07/2025 10:35

I agree that Kate and Pippa aren't fashionable, but 8
I suspect a lot of well off women aren't but they are well dressed and stylish.
Also neither of them are young women anymore so they shouldn't be dressing like 20 yo. Kate is 43, and I think generally Royal women dress older than their age.
Most of what she wears is the right thing for the specific engagement, lots isn't my taste but so what.

jaws33 · 13/07/2025 10:40

I wasn't saying it as a criticism, I think Kate sticks to what she likes and what is appropriate which is fair enough. Queen M clearly loves fashion & I think you see that.

eggandonion · 13/07/2025 10:48

I'd like a royal laundry thread
I assume they dry clean a lot though . I'm currently washing things with chocolate ice cream and salad dressing on them. Surely they have an occasion drippy stain at an event?

jaws33 · 13/07/2025 10:51

The stain thing does intrigue me. I still can't wear white bottoms without getting a stain at some point during the day!

I think I said she wasn't into fashion. I really don't think Kate is or Pippa, they have quite an old fashioned style. Even if you look at what clothes they wore in their younger years I don't think they represented the average London girl who was into fashion.

Diana who is hailed as a fashion icon didn't look like an average London girl in her pre marriage days. She looked like a very typical specific type of London girl though a 'Slone Ranger' as they were called then.
Kate hasn't ditched her skinnies in favour of barrel legs so she isn't fashionable in the sense of following every tend but I think she does care what she wears/looks like but that is within a set of parameters as to what suits her, what will age well and what is appropriate to her position now and in the future.

FGSWhatNow · 13/07/2025 11:08

Wow this thread has moved quickly! Going back a couple of days to the state banquet, I was intrigued by the Royal Family Orders that the ladies wear and fell into a bit of an internet rabbit hole. It never really occurred to me before, but it sounds like each little portrait is individually painted. Can anyone confirm? I read that originally they were painted onto ivory, but when Kate got her QEII order it was painted onto glass instead (for obvious reasons!). The KCIII orders are also not on ivory, so a bit of a change in tradition happening.

Maireas · 13/07/2025 11:10

Yes, they're interesting, aren't they, @FGSWhatNow . There's a poster on here who was explaining it on a previous thread, I didn't know they were painted on to glass. Works of art.

Was Diana a fashion icon then?

I just said she's not into fashion, that doesn't mean she doesn't care about what she looks like...

jaws33 · 13/07/2025 11:12

We will have to agree to disagree, I didn't realise saying Kate wasn't into fashion was controversial!

Although this might be an interesting topic for another thread I’m struggling to understand what this has to do with this one?
this thread is about discussing current clothing and styles that are being worn now by multiple royals and adjacent people, this is not the “ Catherine “ discussion thread!

Charlene's dress is Elie Saab. I rather like what Camille Gottlieb is wearing, and also the emerald green dress on the left (sorry I can't work out who she is).

This is bonkers!

There was a discussion about Kate's dress outfit yesterday and how she tends to stick to the same shapes/styles. Some posters said she lacked variety, was conservative etc. I just said I don't think she is into fashion so sticks to what works.

@deeahgwitch brought it up this morning so I expanded on my comments.

@jeffgoldblum are there rules about what we can talk about or what posters we can reply to? Could you share them?

jaws33 · 13/07/2025 11:22

@jeffgoldblum just confused as to why you only quoted my post as I don't think i'm conversing with myself about Kate's love of or not of fashion?

jeffgoldblum · 13/07/2025 11:22

I like the blue dress Mair! , the green one is quite interesting but not keen on such a large slit in that style of dress!
I do quite like the white and black one though!

The KCIII ones are on something called on polymin, which Wikipedia descibes as "a synthetic replacement for the ivory used in previous royal family orders". Off to google polymin!

Maireas · 13/07/2025 11:24

I think it's silk georgette and moves beautifully. Those of us who've been on this thread for years have followed Char's health struggles, so it's lovely to see her looking well 😊.
The emerald green is quite bold! I love it, though.

Perhaps you should ask the op of a long running thread about what the discussion is about?

don’t confuse people politely answering you as agreeing with your opinion or posts!

Ah! Thanks! Those Internet rabbit holes are fiendish. We all got lost a couple of threads ago on how tiaras get attached to the hair.
Do the research for us, please!

Yes, that's what I meant when I said standard for Kensington/Chelsea, an area I associate with the wealthy. Like the Middleton sisters were at the time.

Frankly I quoted you because you are the only poster on here who seems unable to criticise Catherine’s clothing without personal criticism!
