Every year Jo Whiley always looks so fabulous and healthy. Every year I vow to get my arse in gear and have a mature makeover but every year after watching Glastonbury I’m still an untoned blob. I love her look but fear you need the height and tone to carry it off. Does anyone have clothing / skincare recommendations to start me on my way? (Drags weights out of the wardrobe)

Interesting thread. She’s slim and toned and looks good for her age, but she’s not someone I would ever have thought of as being particularly attractive.

Thedevilhasfinallycaughtupwithhim · 29/06/2025 16:24

Is there anyone who is a bit closer to your body type that you admire? It seems like another year of punishing yourself for not being something you’ll never be to keep pursuing this.

Disturbia81 · 29/06/2025 16:24

She gets better with age, as do many women. Love how she is just herself

I’ve got a huge crush on her. How does she manage to look so cool - effortlessly cool - and not remotely ‘too young’ or ‘try hard’?

I am tall and slim. I have a satin slip dress like the blue one she wore. I might go and put it on with shabby hi-top converse. Will I look cool? No, I’ll look like a twat.

I saw Holly Willoughby getting off her helicopter 🙄, she looked good, but so very put together and contrived. Jo looks like she just opened her wardrobe and yanked out some old stuff and it looks bloody amazing.

I think this is partly down to body shape. Holly is more classically ‘pretty’ and curvy, and so clothes are going to look ultra feminine and more ‘dressed up’ on her. Jo is more angular, flat chested and less conventionally pretty, which gives a slightly more masculine vibe to clothes. So she can wear ‘pretty’ clothes without looking overly feminine and done up.

I’ve been to Sainsbury’s and bought some gradual tanner.

Misses point of thread. JW looks amazing btw. Every single tanner person I have known about is female. Yes the best, and “tanner to the stars” is male. How come the best of any service is male? How does that happen?

RedBeech · 29/06/2025 17:34

She looks so fantastic in the green satin dress and long boots today.

There are quite a few but the ones who are most noted in the UK are James Harknett, James Read and Jules Von Hep.
You are right though most tanners are women and there should be a superstar one at the very least… ten would be better!!!

She looks amazing, her outfits look incredible on her I’m tall and slim but no way could I carry off her look.Shes so stylish and I suspect she would look good in anything.

Ahhh this is such a great point. I am very busy and would love to be able to pull off the angular masculine cool vibe but it just doesn't work. Maybe I should start a thread for us softer ladies who want to look edgy?

SnoopDougyDoug · 29/06/2025 18:04

That should say busty. If I was busy I wouldn't be posting on mumsnet on a Sunday afternoon 🤣

I mean WOW!!

My husband and I were actually wondering if she’d had a facelift because she was so young looking, she looked incredible!

DP and I were just wondering the same about Lauren Lavern who looks very youthful on the Glastonbury coverage.

Jo Whiley is interesting on the Shift podcast discussing how the menopause affected her memory so much that she thought she’d have to give up her career until she went on HRT.

I would be very interested to read this!

tammienorrie · 29/06/2025 21:48

I dint know what she was wearing last night but the sparkly pink party dress is more suitable for a 6 year old.

I could be wrong but not sure Lauren Lavern would have gone through any facelifts etc as she has just got over her cancer treatment

TurquoiseDress · 29/06/2025 23:37

This thread inspired me to check her out on Insta…am now following/been dazzled by how amazing she looks!

EconomyClassRockstar · 29/06/2025 23:40

I think she is extremely good at projecting that effortlessly cool vibe when, in reality, she works her arse off to look that good. Respect to her regardless.

LavenderBlue19 · 29/06/2025 23:40

Love Jo Whiley, I have loved her since I obsessed over the Evening Session in the 90s. I met her maybe 15 years ago and she was beautiful, and much thinner than she looks on TV - all collarbones and cheekbones. The right figure for clothes to look their best. Also really lovely and kind.

Chumsky · 30/06/2025 00:30

Jo looks so good bcos she’s stated true to her own style, she’s passionate about what she does & she’s also naturally cool in a completely un threatening way to other women. Which is really refreshing - she’s never courting the male gaze & has always had her own style. It’s always been music first to her. Unconventionally beautiful with amazing cheekbones - I think she’s kind of grown into her looks. I think she’s naturally very slim boned too. No shade but it wouldn’t surprise me if she’s had very well done surgery for loose skin - but she evidently works out & seems to glow with health. She’s a great example of a woman maturing without horrible filler & pneumatic lips. But let’s be real she works in the music industry & showbiz - she has all of the advantages that has to offer in terms of aesthetics & styling. But I’m always a fan.
