Royal Fashion Police has a substack now and has done a Kate at Wimbledon style retrospective. I think some of my favourite looks of hers have been at SW19!

ETA: It's a WIP at the moment as she's still adding to it

2011-2024: The Princess of Wales (Kate Middleton) Wimbledon Style File (Completed)

Everything The Princess of Wales (Kate Middleton) wore to Wimbledon from 2011 to 2024

This is really interesting, thanks Deftly. I really like the yellow Roksanda, it's a shame that didn't get a re wear. Not so much the literal Alexander McQueen.

I’d love to see William throwing caution to the winds and ditching the tie. I bet he would gain the eternal gratitude of all the other men…

CurlewKate · 29/06/2025 09:28

I can imagine the children saying “Mummy’s got tennis balls all over her dress!” at that D&G number!

I think the dress code is determined by The All England Club.

I strongly disagree. I think it's important to keep some rules in place and if you're going to be King I think it's only right that you remain willing to dress up when it's required. It's really not such a hardship to wear a tie to event.

Yes it is, and I see Billie Jean King is in the Telegraph today saying Wimbledon should ditch the whites and have players names and a number on their shirts!

Just NO! It's not bloody football.

Maireas · 29/06/2025 09:52

No! Billie Jean has all my respect, but no. It has to be whites for Wimbledon!

KiIIingMeDeftly · 29/06/2025 09:57

They relaxed the white underwear rule a few years ago, for obvious reasons and a good move, but I doubt they'll ever abandon whites entirely. It wouldn't be Wimbledon without them!

KiIIingMeDeftly · 29/06/2025 10:00

My favourites are the embroidered McQueen from 2016, the spotted D&G from 2017 (along with a really good haircut) and the yellow dress from 2018, which hasn't made it to the substack yet.

Maireas · 29/06/2025 10:03

Yes, I liked the yellow one which wasn't featured. Her hair had just been cut and she looked great.

Of the ones they have up so far the 2011 Temperley flouncy, pleaty dress and the knitted sailor suit dress are my least favourites. I love the red LK Bennett, the white Broderie anglaise and the 2016 Alexander McQueen with the embroidered flowers.

Maireas · 29/06/2025 10:05

The Jonathan Saunders is quite a departure. I really liked the Alexander McQueen, too.

WHYYY? There's a maximum of four players on court and their names are on the scoreboard!

Even when the Gullikson twins were playing, you could tell which was which because one was right and one was left handed.

And the white looks smart and helps keep sponsorship and advertising at bay.

WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal · 29/06/2025 10:09

Some things just don't need to be messed with!

I think the first two dresses were Kate's early experiments with the literal dressing for which she is now well-known!

Yep she looks ready to step on court and play a set in both of them.

Maireas · 29/06/2025 10:15

Yes, I could quite have imagined an early Chris Evert wearing a version of the Temperley dress?.

Has anyone else seen the C5 documentary about Diana's wedding dress? Some of the anecdotes we've heard before, but Elizabeth Emanuel was very interesting, talking about fabric, lace, the intricacies of the design, the toiles and the fittings. It's worth a watch.

Thanks for that link @KiIIingMeDeftly

I think I’m the minority here but I adore that McQueen knitted sailor dress! And I also love the Zimmerman broderie anglaise. I’m not a fan of the Roksanda dress.

It gives me 'The Lost Prince' vibes.

KiIIingMeDeftly · 29/06/2025 11:22

Oh yes, I loved the Zimmerman dress too. She wore it in Australia but hasn't worn it again since that Wimbledon. Shame!

Not suggesting he wears trackies! But European men often seem to look smart and stylish without ties. I’d love to see British menswear designers coming up with some lovely clothes for this sort of event.

They tend to be tanned and have a full mop of hair. Beatrice husband hot. Eugenie husband not.
