Exactly, @GetDressedYouMerryGentlemen . I think there are some people who do think that those are the only options, as you say! Children nowadays are less likely to go to church and other formal types of occasions.

At no point t did I suggest “ragamuffin hair and a Disney dress.” Or “joggers”. There are loads of lovely age appropriate, formal but not dull outfits available for 10 year olds.

Lifestooshort71 · 15/06/2025 10:56

I thought Charlotte looked very relaxed and comfortable in her outfit - one of my favourite colours. It will be interesting, though, to see what her 'formal attire' will look like as she gets older, could be time for some compromising between her and Catherine!

WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal · 15/06/2025 11:01

Ah @CurlewKate I know you didn't! I was just being a bit cheeky in aid of my point.

We're all allowed our own opinions of course and matters of taste will vary.

I think Charlotte is quite a headstrong little girl so I'm quite sure if she really hated something she'd say and I think Catherine would likely oblige.

More photos from yesterday https://www.newmyroyals.com/2025/06/the-british-royal-family-attends-kings.html

Sophie's dress is nice but there's something not quite right about the way the seams on the bust line sit. It's apparently bespoke so I'd expect a perfect fit!

I'd like to get a closer look at Birgitte's ensemble as she looks very elegant, as always.

The father's day photo is very country casual!

Maireas · 15/06/2025 11:13

Thanks, Deftly. Nice photos, and I agree with you about Sophie's dress. Birgitte always looks stylish.

Very County. ✨✨✨

slinkiemalinkiey · 15/06/2025 11:18

I agree about Sophie. That look aged her 20 years. I have no idea what possessed her as she has worn some beautiful clothes.

slinkiemalinkiey · 15/06/2025 11:22

There's a very nice shot of William getting on his horse out there 😉

WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal · 15/06/2025 11:23

Sophie herself looks lovely but I agree the dress looks a bit odd; she suffers from the same issue as me with a bigger bust which often looks awkward especially when sitting. The sleeves are also too voluminous because they finish right where her bust sits. I love the look but I just can't wear it as I instantly look matronly and way older than I actually am. I also think the colour is better for A/W and not really festive enough for a summer celebration.

mikado1 · 15/06/2025 11:24

I thought Kate's colour and outfit v dated looking tho as always she looked well and happy.
I agree re court shoes, I haven't had a pair in over 10 years, but what do people wear instead for dressy shoes? Not sure of alternative.

Maireas · 15/06/2025 11:28

@FabulousPharmacyst you make a good point about Sofia and Leonor of Spain. In fact, Charlotte's dress reminds me of what they used to wear at a similar age. Light fabric, loose and comfortable, not likely to blow up in the breeze, light colour, flat shoes. Charlotte isn't wearing anything restrictive, no jacket, no coat. Very similar vibe.

KiIIingMeDeftly · 15/06/2025 11:32

Charlotte looks fine to me, a fairly minumalist dress and nothing too frilly or fussy. A lot better than when Beatrice and Eugenie were her age and dressed in skirt suits for formal occasions. They looked like the UK'S most matronly tweens!

themessygarden · 15/06/2025 11:46

It does look like Catherine is wearing something under the coat dress, possibly a slip in the same colour?

Royal Style: Trooping and Tennis, here we come!
WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal · 15/06/2025 11:48

I don't think she'd wear just a slip with such a high opening (and a high slit at the back). My guess is it's a skirt or dress in a light fabric.

Yes, I think it's a light silk dress.

OP posts:
WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal · 15/06/2025 11:51

Yes, silk makes sense.

themessygarden · 15/06/2025 11:55

Yes, I think something very minimal, Victoria Beckham cami silk dress style. Now I want to see it looks like !

Choux · 15/06/2025 11:57

i read that Sophie’s dress was in the same green as her husbands sash as he is the Colonel of the Scots Guards. But she looks like she needed better undergarments particularly if wearing a sloped under bust seam. The girls need to be up high to avoid looking saggy.

Louise often wore very child style formal dresses even as a mid teen. I recall an outfit which seemed far too young for her style wise. Then she started rummaging in mum’s closet and had a couple of occasions where she seemed to be dressed far too old for her age. Always appropriate for the occasion but not really age appropriate. Isabella and Josephine in Denmark often wear their mother’s old clothes to formal occasions too. The first time Charlotte wears something grown up and current there are going to be headlines and media attention galore so I can see her parents delaying that for as long as possible.

Someone often manages to get a lovely portrait of Kate at formal events. I love this photo not least because the outfit looks less icy blue and more teal.

I was wondering is it was something a bit 'more' than that so if the weather yesterday had been like it was on Friday she would have worn just the dress. It must be so difficult to try to plan for these events when the British weather is so variable.

Sidebeforeself · 15/06/2025 13:09

I do love Sophie’s jewellery .

jeffgoldblum · 15/06/2025 13:14

Hi @Maireas👋 , not normally on these threads but just had to pop on to say , I love Catherine and Charlotte in those outfits and colours, to me ( and I’m no style expert) rather than dated and old fashioned I would say traditional and timeless.
but it’s nice to see them embracing bright different colours, it reminds me of queen Elizabeth who always wore a rainbow of colours.

Maireas · 15/06/2025 13:16

Afternoon, @jeffgoldblum and welcome! Yes, the late Queen did embrace a rainbow of colours and particularly rocked that lovely egg yolk yellow, which can be a tricky shade.

Yes she did !
I rather like the royals dressed in a more paired down style , it differentiates them from celebrities.
