Morning all. I want to buy this lovely dress but what the heck is this sizing? What a palaver.
I don't own a tape measure and have no idea what size I am.
I'm 5 foot 5 and a standard size 14....any ideas. It's also really difficult to measure your back length when you live on your own.

And how the heck do you measure your body width.

PoliteRaven · 03/06/2025 09:26

I have no experience with Uniqlo itself but the size S sounds like a generous 10 if body width means armpit to armpit.

SigrunGard · 03/06/2025 09:28

Hi - I have this! I’m a 16 and the XL is fine so the L should be ok for a 14

its very comfortable but the fabric is a bit odd!

2ndbestslayer · 03/06/2025 09:29

I'm a size 14 and a Uniqlo fan. I'm a comfortable large, can squeeze into a medium. In fact I'm sure I tried that dress on in a large and it was a good fit.

BarnacleBeasley · 03/06/2025 09:43

I have that dress and I am a 10 and the S fits perfectly. I'd also go with L for a 14.

TheDrunkenClam · 03/06/2025 09:45

How confusing! Lovely dress though 😊 I’ve had a good look and in my opinion it appears that the dress is generously cut so I think the most important is bust size. I would say a small will be fine if you’ve got small boobs if not go for the medium. There is a function to compare with previous purchases for size comparison though - can you do that?
ETA it took so long for me to figure out Uniqlo sizing 🙈

Gettingbysomehow · 03/06/2025 09:59

Ah great thanks. I'll try a large. I don't have big boobs so I should be OK. Blue is my colour so I'm hoping this will be good on me. I hardly ever wear dresses but it's apparently going to be a hot summer so here goes 😊

The measurements given are the length and width of the dress, not the potential customer!

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 03/06/2025 10:15

Oh I like that, wish it had sleeves.

BarnacleBeasley · 03/06/2025 10:41

Actually, as you're only 5'5'' and you don't have big boobs, you might find the medium works. That dress does go in at the waist though so I'd say still L if you're more straight down, but the hips are generous.

This! You’re supposed to compare to a garment you already own and like the fit of I think? Won’t nylon be quite hot?

It's not hot - it's sort of sports clothes type fabric, which is quirky for a dress but looks quite cool (in a fashion sense) and doesn't get sweaty.

Gettingbysomehow · 03/06/2025 11:48

I don't want it to be too clingy so I went for a large but if its too big I can exchange it so we'll see.

If you click on view body dimensions underneath it gives you the measurements for each size. I agree with the others though, a large should be ok

Trethew · 03/06/2025 12:18

I’m 14 in M&S and take L in Uniqlo

Comefromaway · 03/06/2025 12:28

I'm a size 12 in most things but sometimes go down to a 10

Uniqlo measurement calculators say I am a Large or extra large. When I tried on in person I was a 12 or a Medium.

If you are a standard 14 I would go Large

Openthisdoor · 03/06/2025 12:30

I find Uniqlo come up very large - I have a size small dress and coat and they both swamp me and I’m a standard 10 elsewhere. Just don’t size up.

BarnacleBeasley · 03/06/2025 12:32

I find that because I am quite short, anything that's a relaxed or oversized fit in Uniqlo I have to size down. However, this dress is quite fitted, so I'd say the size guide should be more plausible.

RomanFruit · 03/06/2025 12:33

@Gettingbysomehow i think you made a good call! I have 2 of these dresses - bought in a medium when I was a size 12. Still just about fitting into them now I’m a 14, but would definitely buy a large if purchasing at this point!

growinguptobreakingdown · 03/06/2025 13:16

I'm a size 10 and fit the small perfectly.30E bust, 27/28 waist

Nopayrise · 03/06/2025 13:20

I have this dress. 8-10 size S. I will say the fabric isn’t great and it’s a bit scratchy - it’s this years version of a dress from last year which I have in a couple of colours and that fabric was much better

BobbyBiscuits · 03/06/2025 13:25

I wear the xs or s and I'm a size 8. If that helps? My mum wears the medium or large and she's 14/16. Jumpers and hoodies etc come up smaller than t shirts etc I find?

MayaPinion · 03/06/2025 15:15

I saw this dress on Saturday. I wanted it but they did t have the colour/size combo I wanted. It’s kind of an almost swimsuit material - not quite, but that sort of feel

notwavingbutdrowning1 · 03/06/2025 16:57

Just measure a dress you already own and compare. I find it so helpful that Uniqlo gives product measurements

NancyJoan · 03/06/2025 17:17

Gettingbysomehow · 03/06/2025 09:23

I think it's the body of the dress, not the buyer!
