Morning all. I want to buy this lovely dress but what the heck is this sizing? What a palaver.
I don't own a tape measure and have no idea what size I am.
I'm 5 foot 5 and a standard size 14....any ideas. It's also really difficult to measure your back length when you live on your own.

I have that dress in a large, I’m 5’7. Didn’t dare try a medium even though I have lost weight.

Oh I like that, wish it had sleeves.

You need to look up Spanx arm tights ? I think another poster mentioned these.

Hoppinggreen · 03/06/2025 19:04

I don't have that dress but I do shop at Uniqlo a bit and I would say you need a L

I won't wear ir sleevess I'm too old. I have a crochet lightweight shrug. I can only wear it sleeveless if my arms are by my side and don't move 😂

I have tried these. I just prefer shrugs now.

I have a very similar navy one from last year. Mine is medium and a lovely fit. I 5 "3, size 14
It has a nice cut.

Teaforthetotal · 03/06/2025 21:09

May I add that I'm well endowed 😂

RampantIvy · 04/06/2025 06:57

To measure the body width you just measure the width of a flat piece of clothing.

I started carrying a tape measure with me when the shops started opening after lockdown but you couldn't try anything on. I still find it very useful.

I agree with a pp that the way Uniqlo describe their measurements is extremely useful.

I have a similar dress to that one made from their airism material. I am a 12/14 and it is a M. I haven't worn it as much as I would have liked as we haven't really had the weather for it since I bought it 2 years ago.

I recommend buying a tape measure as well.

NoNotTodayThanks · 04/06/2025 09:12

I bought some stuff from Uniqlo last week having never shopped there before. I used the my style assist calculator on their site to input my height and weight and it recommended a medium (I'm a 10) and everything fits perfectly so maybe give that a go. If you click check sizing on the item page it's on there.

lifeonmars100 · 04/06/2025 13:28

lovely dress

drspouse · 04/06/2025 14:09

If you don't have a tape measure you probably have a) a piece of A4 paper and b) a piece of string, thread, or wool.

Go round your waist/bust/bum with the wool. Don't stretch it.
Then work out how many lengths of A4 that is. Don't stretch the wool while you work this out either.
Then multiply that by 30 cm using the calculator on your phone.

The measurements given are the length and width of the dress, not the potential customer!

Yes. So you could measure existing dresses you have and compare.

rosemarble · 04/06/2025 16:28

I buy a lot from Uniqlo. You probably need a large. It will be quite long on you.

MissMoan · 04/06/2025 20:37

Measure a dress you own that fits you well and compare it against their measurements

PorgyandBess · 04/06/2025 23:24

I’m not a Uniqlo expert by any means, but I just bought their ribbed bra dress in medium. I’m 5’8 and a 12, but this dress is extremely roomy on me and I could probably have got away with a small.

Stolenyouth · 05/06/2025 05:50

Am same size and shop there a lot. Yes. L.

Onelifeonly · 05/06/2025 05:57

Tape measures aren't expensive?

Go to a branch of the shop and try it on?

Choose the likely correct size, try it and return it if it's wrong?

I'm old fashioned but unless I know the sizing of online shops, I like to try on in person, especially for dresses that can be a myriad of different shapes and styles, most of which don't suit me.

Their shops are not nationwide unfortunately.
Don’t know where OP lives but there is no store near me. You also have to pay for returns.

Gettingbysomehow · 05/06/2025 09:43

The dress is arriving today so looking forward to trying it on.

Yay - I hope you like it.

Gettingbysomehow · 05/06/2025 20:05

The dress arrived. I love it. It's very flattering. The large is perfect around the bus, I may have to take the waist seams in a bit but I usually do anyway with most clothes.
I'm wearing it with a fine crochet cardigan that won't be too hot.
The .material is a bit odd. Cotton traders do super stretchy trousers in this fabric which are horrible as they make your legs sweat but it's fine for a dress.
The length is perfect too. I'm 5 foot 5.

Hi. I have the exact same dress(es) I bought two in the end. I am size 12 and I have M and its perfect. I love them. I'd say you get a L if you wanted to be on the safe size. The dress has a bit of stretch.
