Ridiculously comfortable black shoes

Blonzer · 01/06/2025 19:53

Neither stylish nor beautiful I suspect - starting a new job soon which will involve wearing a uniform trousers/skirt and I have to wear black shoes (absolutely no trainers or crocs). There'll be a lot of standing and walking around.

Any suggestions?

I'd wear these

Or these (bit marmite, not to all tastes)

Both very comfortable IME

Doc Martens loafers. Expensive and need breaking in but super comfortable.

NotMeNoNo · 01/06/2025 21:31

I have the soft leather (Virginia) Dr Marten Adrian loafers, they had a little space so I added a memory foam insole. They have enough structure to support you for a long day walking and the air cushion soles stop the bottom of your feet aching. Only downside is they are a bit heavy. But I hardly ever wear my other work shoes any more.

We aren't supposed to wear trainers but I wear a pair of Skechers max, which are incredibly comfortable. In fact most of us wear them or similar.

AnOldCynic · 01/06/2025 21:32

@thedevilinablackdress Funny Dream, the world’s comfiest shoe! I love these even though they can be considered rather fugly. I know a few nurses that wear them.

Isometimeswonder · 02/06/2025 08:55

I have plain black Skechers boots. They are so comfortable. Don't look like trainers.

The camper ones are pretty much an uglier version of classic Ecco lace ups. Have a look at Ecco, they are usually comfy.

Next have some loafers in their Forever Comfort range that might work.

My friend used to have a lodger who was a chiropodist. He had a different pair of shoes for each day of the week and recommended a minimum of 3 pairs in rotation for workwear shoes.

Fit Flop do black loafers in very soft leather - very comfortable and smart with trousers.

Are you calling my shoes ugly 😁

Sorry 😄 I tend to think most flattish lace ups look a bit meh with skirts

Each to their own. I embrace the clumpy Toast vibe 😄

Don't forget Fly London for really comfortable shoes and boots. A lot of them have intentionally chunky styling but there are some more understated ones too.

I love my Funny Dreams.

@Blonzer it is impossible to advise. Feet are unique to individuals: different lengths, depths, arches, insteps, heel widths etc. What is super comfy for none person will not be for somebody else.

The only ad ice is to try them on and seen if they suit you. There is no substitute.

I wear these Clark's brogues for work. They are very comfortable.

AnOldCynic · 02/06/2025 12:40

@NoMoreStupidGuysme too. Three pairs different colours!

I wear these Clark's brogues for work. They are very comfortable.

Those brogues were my DD’s school shoes all through secondary school. She had loads of walking and they were great.

Onlyharmony · 02/06/2025 13:09

I have some plain black slip on skechers trainer/ shoe. It's like walking on air.

AnneMarieW · 02/06/2025 13:16

If your priority is comfort rather than style then I really second the pp’s suggestion of Hotter. A bit pricey at around £70-90 per pair of shoes (unless in the sale) but they need none of this “wearing in” nonsense- they tend to be comfortable from Day 1, especially if you go for something with ankle padding like the Tone, Glove or Leap (and they usually come in a variety of width and half sizes as well). I’ve had some of my boots and shoes from there for years now - so they last well too. I just wish they were cheaper!

I wear Hotter all the time. I think they are very good value and not expensive in the least. They last forever. Their sales are great too.
