Classic Denim Jacket - Any Way to Look Current in It?

The shops are still selling them and plenty of people still loving them with a midi/maxi dress. It’s easy.

My jacket has sentimental value, so I am keeping it but I just feel so naff wearing it. Is there any way to wear it and still look stylish? I know all about wear what you like, but I am not sure I do like to wear it 10 year after buying it.

@Wiltingasparagusfern We have different tastes. We have different lifestyles, interests, budgets etc. It would be a dullplace if we all liked the same llooks.

@Divebar2021 , those are fine, they are nothing like the 'size 8 in XXXL' photos.

Yes - if anything the women in the photos in Divebar's post are the counter argument, not the supporting argument.

Sorry I’ve obviously missed some crucial context. I thought you didn’t like oversized so I was showing more fitted looks on women who weren’t 21 🤷‍♀️

Your post started with I think the pictures look fine - I think describing them as homeless looking is a bit OTT. - referring back to the 3 oversized ones. I think they look terrible- genuinely the last thing left in a charity shop. I like over-sized but it needs to look deliberate, maybe better cut and a better quality fabric.

The ones you posted are an improvement although (a)I agree with EcruCardigan's 5 point criticism and (b) they're still not my thing.

I haven't worn my denim jacket in a couple of years, have no idea whether I'm winter or summer, think describing purple as jewel coloured is a bit pretentious, and don't know what a sensible middle-aged hair cut is.

What I do know is that a couple of the 20 somethings in the office yesterday were wearing denim jackets. They were fitted not oversized and quite traditional in their style. None were worn with floral midi dresses, or band t-shirts and a midi skirt. Both worn with trousers and trainers.

The outfits in @Octopusespunchforfun 's photos could look OK if the jackets were not so huge. If the jackets were slightly oversized they'd look youthful and 'I've borrowed my boyfriend/brother's jacket' but the jackets are so big that it looks uncomfortable and unpractical.

I remember the ripped jeans look from decades ago and thought that new ripped jeans was a bit of an insult to people who would not be able to afford new jeans.
Repaired or worn-looking clothes can look cool, but new distressed clothes don't IMO.
