Are these shoes nice or awful

I've ditched almost all of my heels since covid and live in trainers or birkenstocks.

I ordered these the other day and can't decide if I love them or hate them. Are they really out of fashion, they seem pretty comfortable.

True - I've got some lovely Fatface platforms that look great until I put them on. They make me weirdly flat-footed. Still can't bring myself to part with them although I'll probably never wear them out of the house!

Maybe save them for a nice meal out and door to door taxi? I have a couple of pairs that are used only if I don't have to walk. What a mad approach to shoes 😅

DontTouchRoach · 28/05/2025 14:27

I usually loathe FitFlop styles but I actually like those ones a lot. They're pretty on-trend too.

Aimingdown · 28/05/2025 16:09

I love FitFlops, slightly horrified about the hate for them! Mind you, I’m always up for a pile-on against Birkenstocks or Crocs. I’ve been tempted by these, don’t think they would be heavy in cork.

travelforthesoul · 28/05/2025 17:29

I had a pair about 10 years ago (at least) of wedge cork sandals from New Look, they were the comfiest things ever, wish I still had the now. I just cant find decent comfy sandals at the moment.

Ddakji · 27/05/2025 19:21

I’m no style guru and I wouldn’t wear them myself but I do like them.

Exactly this.

Thomasina79 · 28/05/2025 17:44

I was a teenager when platforms were fashionable. I now have weak ankles due to spraining my ankle several times on falling over! I would never wear such a style

however I bought the flat version of these sandals and find them very comfortable

We used to wear things like this in the 1970s. Bloody uncomfortable.

So did I! Mine were from Kensington Market and cost the huge sum of £25. Platform boots with snakeskin inserts and 3 separate layers of platform. Those were the days.....

Hideous. Bulky. Clumsy. Chunky. Comical.

*thing is you know, I wear these ... so I've got no style!

Delphiniumandlupins · 28/05/2025 22:27

I think they might be comfortable because they're virtually flat. However, that's what makes them look clumpier- the thickness of the sole. I'm torn if I like them, would have to try walking in them.

Hecatoncheires · 29/05/2025 10:40

I'm not keen on the cut-out in the wedge, it's a weird shape. But I love FitFlops shoes and find them extremely comfortable and I'm mid-50s so comfort is life........

CharlotteRumpling · 29/05/2025 10:45

I dont like them. But I have Fitflop Gracie and I can walk miles in them.

Astrabees · 29/05/2025 11:27

I like them. I’d probably admire them if I saw you wearing them.

lenalove · 29/05/2025 11:36

I had these and they were comfy but personally I felt they looked clumpy on the foot so ultimately got rid of them.

Fgfgfg · 29/05/2025 12:03

I like them.
I was forbidden from buying similar iǹ the 1970s as I would almost certainly succumb to a horrible end. To be fair, one of my friends did have a bad fall off them. Fortunately for me punk happened.

Afewtimesagain · 29/05/2025 17:03

I really like them.

WhereYouLeftIt · 29/05/2025 17:13

Awful. But I am an old git who lived through the 1970s so they look really old-fashioned to me.

Purplesphere11 · 29/05/2025 17:23

Not to my taste. I did try the traditional style of fit flip on many moons ago in a shop and they were so uncomfortable

Gettingbysomehow · 29/05/2025 17:23

I wore almost exactly the same shoes in the 1970s when I first went to see Saturday night fever with a friend at the cinema.
I thought I was the coolest girl in town.
I'm not so sure about them now.

This 😂

MadKittenWoman · 29/05/2025 19:49

They would be better as proper wedges.

Pliudev · 01/06/2025 08:13

I don't understand the Fitflop hate on here. I've got several pairs and they are the most comfortable, reliable shoes/sandals I own. They also look great and compare well with the other brands I wear: DrMartens etc. These particular ones aren't my style but if you like them why are you asking? Just get them and wear themwith joy.

Speckly · 01/06/2025 11:06

I love them! 😍

MorrisZapp · 01/06/2025 11:13

I love these and have worn similar for decades! FYI, Gabor have even nicer ones, with a hidden velcro fastening. Cheaper too, and currently 20% off at John Lewis.

Same. I love fitflops and they've improved their styles a lot over the years. They used to be fugly af but I love a lot of their stuff now, I have some boots, trainers, loafers and sandals from fitflop and don't really wear any other brand except maybe pumas etc.

spoonbillstretford · 01/06/2025 14:21

I find platform sandals and FitFlops really comfortable and my feet can be a bit awkward. Go for it. FitFlops are also indestructible IME and brilliant for flat feet.

I don't like all FitFlop styles but loads of them are lovely, comfortable and fashionable.

Personally I don't care for Birkenstocks or Teva generally. I tried on some of the original Birkenstocks years ago and it was like walking on a cardboard box and they were clearly going to rub me quite viciously.
