I know it's my fault I'm fat but I'm working on it. I'm also tall - 5'10. I'm looking for a lovely outfit for my son's wedding but everything is awful. If I was just large or just tall I'd probably be OK but I'm stuck with polyester horror or dreadful old woman clothes or a few go to Boden dresses that are large enough and long enough.

Does anyone have recommendations for anywhere stylish for a tall size 20/22? Please don't say Chesca - I'm not in my 80s!

Thank you!

Laura Adlington did a wedding guest dress series on insta recently. It sounds like she's a similar size and height to you too. Take a look, she dresses very well!

I was about to recommend following her, I love her style and she’s really helped me to feel more comfortable in my clothes.

@Yiayoula thank you! I'm going to be very poor indeed after everyone's great suggestions!

You will look beautiful OP! Lovely floaty dress and I like the colour. I also like that you had the courtesy to check the colour with the bride, how thoughtful of you. Enjoy the day when it comes and enjoy your new dress too.

5'11" here and used to be 20/22. A Hush size 18 dress would fit me then, generous sizing (depending on the cut). I've been very surprised at M&S Tall offerings too, in a good way. Last year bought 3 tall dresses after not buying anything, not even knickers from them for years.

Gorgeous dress- floaty, summery and perfect MOG outfit for a country wedding.
Good website tip, @Papergirl1968 !

It's 100% polyester! You have rejected a million dresses on this thread because they're polyester!
Bah!!
🤣

Yamyamabroad · 02/06/2025 08:01

Scarlett and Jo via John Lewis are brilliant. The model they use is a size 16 and 5'10. Definitely designed for real life women but with subtle linings that hold you in beautifully

Thats exactly what I thought too.

Mumwithbaggage · 02/06/2025 14:49

@Bigearringsbigsmile I know that but I'm getting desperate! I have really low self esteem about my appearance and I know that if I have something that suits me, I can relax. Haven't even tried it on yet - I might hate it.

I think it's sad that you are apologizing for being "fat". We shouldn't feel like we have to apologize for being overweight.

I thought you wanted blue!
But glad you found something you liked. Hope it looks as good in real life as in the pics.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 16/06/2025 21:42

Did the dress arrive? How does it look? Are you happy with it?

Ayeayeaye25 · 17/06/2025 09:05

Were you happy with the outfit?

I am similar proportions to you if the wedding hasn’t happened yet I would do a couple of big orders from Monsoon and John Lewis. People have suggested Hope & Ivy to me but its all a woven fabric i.e sweaty polyester or Nobody’s child who use natural fabrics but I find the sizes small fitting and not really catering for tall.

deeahgwitch · 17/06/2025 09:44

You are lucky you are so tall @Mumwithbaggage as you can “carry the weight”.
I hope you like what you ordered.
You did say you didn’t want polyester and the dress you ordered is polyester afaik.
Some fabulous dresses on that Needle and Thread website.

Mumwithbaggage · 21/06/2025 12:14

Yes thanks, the dress is great. I know it's polyester but it feels nice. Have also bought a cotton dress from Joanie which I'll take and may change into for the evening for the band etc. Goes with the theme and the garden party vibe.

Looking forward to the wedding now!

I really do appreciate all the suggestions I got on here. A few more websites to add to my favourites!
