I know it's my fault I'm fat but I'm working on it. I'm also tall - 5'10. I'm looking for a lovely outfit for my son's wedding but everything is awful. If I was just large or just tall I'd probably be OK but I'm stuck with polyester horror or dreadful old woman clothes or a few go to Boden dresses that are large enough and long enough.

Does anyone have recommendations for anywhere stylish for a tall size 20/22? Please don't say Chesca - I'm not in my 80s!

Thank you!

Wow! Lots of ideas to keep me going on here!
@salcombebabe I do have a Scarlett and Jo dress ready to go as a back up and may well end up wearing it. Navy with large white polka dots. Just fancied something a bit different.
@Rina66 I think that Karen Millen dress could be lovely but the focus is definitely on the model's stomach - the only bit with no draping.
Thanks @MetaDaughter will read the article.
@mumonthehill had forgotten all about Anthropologie!

It isn't just plus size tbh! Everything seems to be polyester or viscose these days 😒

I am a tall size 20 and I have (sounds so boring) found a few cotton dresses in Next and also get them secondhand on Vinted from Next, M&S and River Island originally. They've been the brands I've had the best luck with on Vinted.

You could also try Hobbs who make silk dresses and go up to a 22 these days, Boden, Anthropolgie and Never Fully Dressed. Karen Millen also does plus size I think.

A tall friend just wore this to a wedding and looked great....https://www.karenmillen.com/plus-size-figure-form-bandage-knit-v-neck-fringe-mini-dress/BKK22002-1.html?color=122

Now that I'd rock to a party!

Just realised I've done the mn drip feed thing. It's very much a country wedding so floaty and maybe floral rather than structured.

Lots of great stuff on here for other events (youngest's graduation and a big birthday for dh coming up) so great to have some new places to look!

Sadly not long enough - had stuff from there before. Some lovely things!

Next online have tall stuff.

Do a search for ‘tall dress’. Theres not a ‘tall tab’ (only regular /petite) but the tall sizes are listed under ‘size’.

Phase 8 used to have a plus size range called Studio 8, which was amazing for evening wear, dresses for weddings etc. I go to a lot of black tie events and most of my stuff came from there.

Mother of the Bride Dresses, Groom & Evening Outfits in UK

Catherine's of Partick: this is a very well-thought-of shop in my area (Glasgow), but does offer online sales.

Sizes up to 24.

greenismyfavorite · 27/05/2025 09:09

I’m 5’2” so can’t help much I’m afraid, but I did used to be a size 20/22 and can relate on the difficulty in finding suitable clothing for events like weddings etc. My friend is 5’10 and a size 24/26, I know for weddings she mostly buys from sites like Shein. Not my preference and definitely very polyester but fwiw (and for anyone following the thread who may be on a particularly tight budget) she has had some decent outfits from there for several events.

Rants & Big Pants on Instagram has modelled some lovely dresses recently, for a country wedding this Abercrombie would be perfect - Nina is a size 18 and 5’5 but Abercrombie dresses come in 3 lengths

I like Yours stuff, but there's a lot of cheap nasty fabrics on there, so you need to check

Bigearringsbigsmile · 27/05/2025 09:25

Are you American? I ask because I've seen lots of videos of mothers wearing things like this for American weddings.
I think this would be completely inappropriate for a British wedding which tend to be daywear occasions rather thsn evening.

MrsSkylerWhite · 27/05/2025 09:31

Not sure what your budget is but Marina Rinaldi has some lovely occasion dresses in natural fabrics.
