Sketchers pull on - a trendy alternative

Right, I've peaked—my comfy Skechers have to go. I've seen a lot of older ladies wearing them lately, and while they look great, I am at just 50 and really do not want to be put into the older lady category yet (I know this is on me and my attitude to ageing). However, I really need the convenience of pull-on sneakers, so are there other more stylish brands that I should check out?

Nothing will part me from my Skechers trainers, I also love their handbags. I'm nearly 49, I don't care what older women are wearing.

khaa2091 · 23/05/2025 10:49

Merrell slip ons are my preferred choice (my mother wears Sketchers!)

Gettingbysomehow · 23/05/2025 11:15

I wear them I am 63 though but everyone at work wears them too including the 20 year olds (NHS).
Depends what you are doing really.

Bigfatsunandclouds · 23/05/2025 11:16

I love Skechers and worn them since I was 30 - just wear them!!!

henlake7 · 23/05/2025 11:21

Never really considered them....would Vans be a trendier alternative?

Im quite happy with laces though and feel the same way about my Rocket Dog and Converse hi/lo tops!
(in fact I do my 12 hr nursing shifts in totally flat cheap Primark plimsoles so Im clearly not a comfy sole person!).

doodleschnoodle · 23/05/2025 11:25

I’m not even 40 yet and love mine, they are so comfy. A lot of the school mums wear them too, including some mums a fair bit younger than me. My friend and I turned up in the exact same ones Grin Timeless! Wink

Sketchers do great pull on sneakers that don’t look like trainers. Just bought two pairs with the arch support. I messed up on sizing hence two pairs but after my friend coveted them she is having the larger size in exchange for some shoes that are too small for her.

You can get any trainers you like and put elastic laces in them. That’s what I do.

Ooooh I like those. They look very modern.

They are really comfortable. I spent a whole day walking around Bath in them recently. I had to stop wearing my converse because they aggravated my plantar fasciitis. These are a game changer. I have to use insoles in all my flat shoes but these are built in.

Picklechicken · 23/05/2025 11:38

I don’t think they’re as out of it as people tend to think they are…. Lots of them in the “new in” section on asos for example.

New balance are a good alternative but they don’t have a slip in thing; you just have to wear them in a bit and then you can get them on and off without undoing the laces or swap the laces for elastic ones.

RoofTopSingers · 23/05/2025 11:40

Kids all the way through to people in their 70s wear Converse, Vans and Skechers. I have tried a million different shoes/trainers/sandals over the years and now will not compromise on what I find comfy because someone older than me wears them. Helen Mirren is 79 and I would happily raid her wardrobe, she looks incredible.

Isobel201 · 23/05/2025 11:58

I'm 40 and wear nothing but skechers these days. I do have arthritis and I never buy anything with laces or buckles.

HelloCanYouHearMe · 23/05/2025 12:00

Slip on Vans. Love them.... stylish and lightweight

blackberryhill · 23/05/2025 12:15

I have a pair of Allbirds which sound like they might fit the bill!

SusanLittle76 · 23/05/2025 12:29

Stop comparing yourself to others and (assuming no holes) you'll come to the conclusion your existing sketchers are perfect for what you need them for. Who cares if a lady older than 50 had a pair it was her choice as it is yours. It's not a crime to be 50 and have the same shoes as someone at 75 or vice versa. Would you think you could no longer enjoy Beethoven (for example) if you seen someone at 70 getting joy listening to a piece of music that you also like?

Topseyt123 · 23/05/2025 15:27

I love my Skechers! So comfortable and I now won't compromise on them at all. I see people of all ages wearing them, right from small children to the elderly. I used to buy lace ups and do still have a couple of pairs but now I very much prefer slip-ins.

I've been wearing Skechers since my mid forties at least and I am almost 59 now. I've no intention of stopping or of paying any attention to other people.

Deathraystare · 23/05/2025 15:30

I like Skechers as they are sooooo comfortable. I am 65 and more into comfort than style (sometimes I can have both!!). I have suffered enough with stylish but bloody uncomfortable shoes in the past and now EVERYTHING aches I do with for some comfort somewhere!!!

Cakeandusername · 23/05/2025 15:35

Love sketchers and I’m 50. Husband does too. Honestly why wear uncomfortable shoes. We do smile at marketing though, big pics of Jamie redkapp and mylene klass, 50 somethings you presumably are supposed to think if they are wearing them they can’t be for old people.

Britneyfan · 23/05/2025 15:36

I love my Sketchers too! Have worn them since my early 30s when I developed crippling plantar fasciitis. I’m fine as long as I wear exclusively Sketchers (or Birkenstock sandals for summer) but anything else and it comes right back. At one point I had to crawl up my stairs to my bathroom in tears because every step was agony. I don’t care if they are fashionable or not at this point, though I personally quite like the way they look, I decided when my plantar fasciitis was at its peak that I was only going to wear shoes I could comfortably walk in, or run in if there was an emergency! I’ve seen so many videos of people trying to run away from disasters and the women struggling in heels etc. And I feel like it’s only women who are expected to suffer for fashion, I’m just not doing it anymore.

StarCourt · 23/05/2025 15:51

Skechers slip ins are my footwear of choice

ACatAsleepInYourHat · 23/05/2025 16:02

I love my Skechers and very rarely wear anything else these days. I’m 67 and retired, so fuck fashion - Skechers were an absolute lifesaver for me years ago when I had appalling heel pain caused by bursitis. Later on when I was on my feet for anything up to ten hours a night with my job, they were the only footwear that didn’t leave my feet aching in the morning.

I am unashamedly in the older later category, and I don’t give a tin shit!

Are these true to size?

MalcolmMoo · 23/05/2025 16:29

I’m 32 and wear sketchers pull ons they’re so useful for just popping out and I don’t have to spend time tying up laces while my child is running around. They were also very useful when I had a baby carrier as could put my shoes on with the carrier.

Theyre not the best looking shoe but they’re comfy and practical.

Are these true to size?

I was considering buying a pair of these a few months ago as I love the look of them.

However, having read reviews saying that they are uncomfortable I decided against it. I also read that they are on the small side so you should size up by at least a half size. Although having said that, Skechers tend to be generously sized so if you just buy your normal size as opposed to your Skechers size you might be OK.
