Sketchers pull on - a trendy alternative

Right, I've peaked—my comfy Skechers have to go. I've seen a lot of older ladies wearing them lately, and while they look great, I am at just 50 and really do not want to be put into the older lady category yet (I know this is on me and my attitude to ageing). However, I really need the convenience of pull-on sneakers, so are there other more stylish brands that I should check out?

Ooh I've just had a look. They're are quite a few style and some of them look good to me.

Moveoverdarlin · 25/05/2025 14:54

Sorry sorry sorry sorry. I’m going against the grain here. I’m 45 and love trainers. But would not be seen dead in Sketchers. I love the light up ones for my 5 year old and my parents who are in their 80s love them, but not for me.

Sidebeforeself · 25/05/2025 15:00

Threads like this depress me. Don’t like the look of them? Fine, say so. But linking it to people’s age is so unnecessary!

abracadabra1980 · 25/05/2025 17:54

Not what you asked OP, but I've always found it hilarious that Jamie Redknapp advertises Sketchers - as if he'd be seen dead in them. Must pay well 🤣

lovehearts88 · 25/05/2025 18:39

I'm 36 but I now want a pair of slip on sketchers. They look almost identical to my nike trainers without the logo really. Wear whatever the hell you want! Your not going to look any younger really whatever shoes you wear, it's all in your head.

This section of Mumsnet is called "Style and Beauty" not "Comfy stuff" Sketchers are not stylish or beautiful, but yes they are comfy. I had one pair years ago when I needed something with the toe in to visit temples that were light enough to carry in my bag. I did wear them for gardening after that but would never have worn them out. What is wrong with a pair of trainers from, say, New Balance or Free People that are really comfortable and look good too?

I'm glad you've confirmed it's called 'Style and Beauty' - based on your attitude I'd have thought it was 'uptight snobs' 🙄

Sidebeforeself · 25/05/2025 19:01

@Astrabees Because what you think looks good someone else might think looks ugly?!

"Look good" is subjective, surely?

Skechers may not be the height of 'style' but I think the 3 pairs I have look fine. 'Stylish' no, but there aren't many walking shoes/trainers that I would call 'stylish', much less 'beautiful'.

Love Skechers but currently prefer my Rocket Dogs. Am in my 60s

Nothing will part me from my Skechers trainers, I also love their handbags. I'm nearly 49, I don't care what older women are wearing.

Me too. My feet’s comfort are my no.1 priority. Sketchers do lots of different styles, mine even have a bit of sparkle on them.

DonttouchthatLarry · 25/05/2025 19:53

At dog shows everyone from 20's to 70's wears them! I love mine (I'm 55).

BunnyLake · 25/05/2025 19:55

I love my Sketchers Uno Rugged Fall Air boots so much I bought two pairs and may buy more next winter.

thenightsky · 25/05/2025 20:07

Skechers used to be good. I went shopping for new ones the other week and found they are now cheap looking and weird in the sizing, yet the price is now 3 times what they used to be.

Bought new balance instead.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 25/05/2025 21:16

My 31 year old DS1 wears Skechers. He has lumbar disc disease but tbh they look like any other white trainer
Life's too short to put up with sore feet
Wear the Sketchers

50howdidthathappen · 25/05/2025 21:21

On cloud have great slip on trainers. Im same age as you and have chronic arthritis. However, not ready for sketchers just yet. My physio recommended on cloud. Feels like walking in air.

budgiegirl · 25/05/2025 21:29

While Skechers are not exactly the height of fashion, I don't think they are too 'old lady'. I'm 56, I work part-time as a barista, and realised last week that my 24 year old colleague had exactly the same pair of Skechers on as I did.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 25/05/2025 22:27

I love the comfort of Sketchers but I really don’t like the new slip ins - don’t like the bit that sticks out of the back and catches on your trousers. It’s annoying as all the newer ones I’ve looked at seem to have this feature.

notatinydancer · 25/05/2025 22:33

I wear them for work. Comfortable yes , trendy absolutely not.

Booboobagins · 26/05/2025 07:41

The absolute best pull ons Ive ever bought are bearfoot shoes. Ultra comfy. Look young imo. Give your toes room to move. Come in loads of colours.

You can buy them in lots of places - google them - just buy the ones for walking not for the beach. Mine are all.black but they do all white if you prefer.

FourBlackCats · 26/05/2025 09:10

I had some of the slip ins for after surgery (couldn’t bend to tie laces) and thought they were awful. They’re pretty flimsy and the memory foam ‘gives’ so much that they started off tight but were too big after a few weeks. Was very happy to get back into my regular shoes.

orangedream · 26/05/2025 16:57

I thought the Skechers slip-ons were aimed at the elderly or those who have difficulty bending to do up laces? They are certainly very popular with retirees I know.

housethatbuiltme · 26/05/2025 18:17

My DH 40 and my DS 16 and they both live in sketchers so I think they are for all ages.

Personally I can't stand them, they are the opposite of comfortable for me but I prefer barefoot walking and feeling the solid ground not fake cushioned weirdness.

For easy shoes when I need to wear something I either wear Primark ballet flats (cheap and easy) or slip on boots (like this).

ViolaPlains · 26/05/2025 18:19

I’ve got Hokas Clifton with Hickies. Makes them slip on.

shedroof · 26/05/2025 18:25

I recently bought Hoka , bondi 9 on advice of a friend for comfort when I was moaning about achy feet on a city break. They’re a bit pricey but OMG sooo comfortable! They’re like walking on bouncy clouds! To my mid 40’s eye they are ugly, but according to my teen family members they are bang on trend. Can definitely recommend!
