Sketchers pull on - a trendy alternative

Right, I've peaked—my comfy Skechers have to go. I've seen a lot of older ladies wearing them lately, and while they look great, I am at just 50 and really do not want to be put into the older lady category yet (I know this is on me and my attitude to ageing). However, I really need the convenience of pull-on sneakers, so are there other more stylish brands that I should check out?

Onitsuka Tigers have a lace free, pull on style. I have a gorgeous green pair.

Allbirds are fantastic.

I love Skechers and have several pairs in different styles. Try M&S trainers. They are comfortable and very good value. I bought some Adidas trainers recently because M&S had sold out of their red leather trainers in my size. The quality of M&S is better and the Adidas are narrow compared to Skechers and M&S.

wrinkledstocking · 23/05/2025 22:02

If Sketchers are comfy never mind what others are or are not wearing..from someone who has feet problems..and cannot do heels of any sort..if someone is judging you by your Skechers ..well….how shallow are they..!!

babyproblems · 24/05/2025 06:15

You lost me at the word ‘trendy’ tbh - trendy and sketchers shouldn’t be in the same sentence 😂

Snoozysu · 24/05/2025 07:00

The other day I found some sketchers sandals in my wardrobe, bought in Florida 7 years ago,( think they were on an offer as buy 2 get a pair for free). They are brand new arch fit ones.
they look like a mule style with an elastic back and a corn flower blue, I thought they looked a bit frumpy.
i was thinking to sell on Vinted but tried them on,
they are so comfortable so I am going to keep them.
i think comfort on shoes is paramount, but they are probably fairly modern looking just not a pretty dainty sandal.

I'm 44 and wear Skechers all the time for many years. There are some young looking designs, such as Bobs.

You can get any trainers you like and put elastic laces in them. That’s what I do.

Me too

Bananalanacake · 24/05/2025 08:59

Skechers do really good handbags, yet they don't sell them in their shops, just the canvas sports bags. You have to go to Deichmann for their handbags.

tattoonewbee · 24/05/2025 09:25

@Angrymum22 what size do you buy in trainers and what did you get in these ? I love them

rainbow90x · 24/05/2025 09:25

I'm 35 and wear my Skechers everyday... My 4 and 10 year old both wear theirs all the time too!
Comfort before style I say 😂

Bobbybobbins · 24/05/2025 09:28

They will have to prise my arch support Skechers from my cold, dead feet. Although I love flatter shoes like converse they hurt my feet so much now.

BoredZelda · 24/05/2025 09:40

You don’t want to wear them because older people wear them? What is that about? Nobody is going to misjudge your age because you are wearing Sketchers.

Daftypants · 24/05/2025 10:05

My youngest 20 something daughter only wears Skechers , she won’t wear other sneakers 👟 or shoes .
She will wear ballet flats to look dressy , even though in my opinion they’re uncomfortable.
And she will wear lined warm boots in winter ❄️ when it’s very cold 🥶
I have the hands free slip in Skechers , in black , got them heavily discounted and they are very comfortable for now and just what’s needed when rushing out of the house .
i also have worn my way through some slip on navy Skechers but whatever style they were ( possibly the Goga mat version ) they lose all support and I feel like I’m walking on something too squashy so get very tired legs

Crikeyalmighty · 24/05/2025 10:13

@Daftypants I’m 63 and have identical choices - Skechers trainers and sandals, ballet pumps and I wear Riekamann boots - which are a bit doc Martin like in style but very comfortable , lined and much lighter.

Crikeyalmighty · 24/05/2025 10:14

@Daftypants yes my H isn’t keen on sjechersas he finds them ‘too light and squishy’ - exactly the reason I guess I like them

Jobsworth7 · 24/05/2025 10:36

Many podiatrists say the very bouncy light Skechers are bad for your feet.

I like the look and support of Adidas Cloudfoam or Puma Softride. I'm not sure if they are "trendy" though - I wear Converse 99% of the time.

Skechers Still a Problem? - Compleet Feet

Skechers still a problem. Patient's Skechers making their foot and leg pain worse. Are they right for you?

I’m similar age to you , my podiatrist said so long as I have support and cushioning I’m fine .
I need lace ups because of having narrow slim feet and particularly slim heels and the cushioning because of lack of fat on lower legs and feet .
skechers ok for just popping to shop or in the back garden but not great for me walking 🙁 far

Never really considered them....would Vans be a trendier alternative?

Im quite happy with laces though and feel the same way about my Rocket Dog and Converse hi/lo tops!
(in fact I do my 12 hr nursing shifts in totally flat cheap Primark plimsoles so Im clearly not a comfy sole person!).

You could really damage your feet doing this!

They are really comfortable. I spent a whole day walking around Bath in them recently. I had to stop wearing my converse because they aggravated my plantar fasciitis. These are a game changer. I have to use insoles in all my flat shoes but these are built in.

Hmm, I’m not sure they do. I’m in my early 30s and live in Skechers… I wouldn’t buy these as they look something like my Nan would wear… not that they’re not nice, they just lean into the Skechers old lady vibe…

Are these true to size?

I am usually between a 7 and an 8. The 7s have plenty of room, the 8s were far too big.
My DM was very strict with shoe fitting when we were young so I know that I am a 7.5 officially, but 7s in Clarkes, for example, are too small but I need an 8 (41) in Russell and Bromley.

I was considering buying a pair of these a few months ago as I love the look of them.

However, having read reviews saying that they are uncomfortable I decided against it. I also read that they are on the small side so you should size up by at least a half size. Although having said that, Skechers tend to be generously sized so if you just buy your normal size as opposed to your Skechers size you might be OK.

Edited

The reviews on the Skechers site are mainly from the US where sizing is different and possibly body size is different. I too checked out a few reviews so was a little concerned that they might be a bit narrow, but they have plenty of room if you are of average size. I can understand some reviews if the reviewer has obesity problems with larger wide feet and the shoes structure doesn’t fit the shape of the foot. I have a high arch on a skinny but long foot, so can only realign advise with regard to my own foot shape and size.

I am a massive Tom's fan. I've worn the classic Alpargata shoes for a long time, including the Rope (espadrille) version. But the Alpargata Plus are the most comfortable of all, and come in loads of different colours https://www.toms.com/en-gb/products/alpargata-plus-natural-heritage-canvas

Edited to say that I am not remotely trendy 😅. But I never wear trainers, and Tom's fill a gap in my wardrobe very very comfortably.

MyKingdomForACat · 24/05/2025 15:40

I’m 63. Own three pairs one of which are the slip ins. Couldn’t care less who wears what anymore x

Sketchers do great pull on sneakers that don’t look like trainers. Just bought two pairs with the arch support. I messed up on sizing hence two pairs but after my friend coveted them she is having the larger size in exchange for some shoes that are too small for her.

Just been to our local outlet and bought these for £48, on your recommendation 😊 Had to go down a size, so I’m glad I tried them on.
