Off to a wedding in August. I’ve got a black cotton dress with off white embroidery all over it. I really don’t care about it being black, so please don’t comment if all you want to say is that I shouldn’t wear black. It’s perfectly summery feeling and stylish dd has approved it.

SO -

can I wear black shoes or should I try to find a new pair. I can only do a low block heel.

Red feels too flamenco dancer. White? Blush pink? Bright green? Need to be really comfortable and pretty cheap, as I doubt I’ll wear them much beyond the day.

Bag? To match the shoes or not?

Can I get away with nothing on my head?

I reckon a nude shoe. Brightly coloured earrings and either a bag that matches the earrings, or a black bag.

Are your black shoes summer shoes ie sandals or courts?

I think I would go white shoes and bag to play it safe, consider silver as alternative. I would match bag to shoes.

otherwise as it’s black dress with white, you would need a strong contrast colour shoes like magenta, and I would only get if you would wear again. Then you could match bag to dress I suppose.

I would do gold or silver shoes and matching bag as mostly likely to wear again, unless you want to go bold with a bright colour

Whatever colour you choose please don’t go for a matching bag. Bright green shoes would be lovely.

Well it would be nice to add a pop of colour to your outfit with some fun pink/magenta block heels and maybe paired up with either a similar coloured belt/handbag/earrings or jacket. But if not, then definitely a nice pair of nude low block or wedge heel sandals.

Daughter said bright pink or bright green, but I'm not convinced. Maybe off white sandals with a pink or green bag????

My black shoes are suede, low block heel, closed toe, with ankle ties, but not very summery. Think a cross between the 1940s and an old goth who doesn't want to look too scary.

I've got some blush pink block heeled slingbacks but they are really uncomfortable and I'd rather avoid them.

I quite like those for day to day, but think I need a wee bit dressier and not black.

Which bag though, if the shoes are bright?

I think probably easier the other way round though? Boring shoes and then a bright bag?

What kind of budget are you thinking?

New Look has always been my go to for occasion heels that I’m unlikely to wear again/regularly. I can’t say they’re comfortable though!

Clarks originals occasionally have chunky sandal type heels.

And other stories/cos for nice coloured leather bags?

I've spent hours on there but haven't found anything that's jumping out at me.

They are pretty - but I am absolutely not a gold shoes person and am unlikely to become one now, I think.

Could you post a pic of your dress @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie? If it’s not too outing, obviously! You might get more helpful suggestions.

I’d stick with the black, especially with a mostly black dress and you know they’re comfortable. Being comfortable and confident makes you look a hundred times better than any novelty shoe might. If you want to get something new, I’d go for jewellery (if you wear it).
