Another bloody wedding guest one

Off to a wedding in August. I’ve got a black cotton dress with off white embroidery all over it. I really don’t care about it being black, so please don’t comment if all you want to say is that I shouldn’t wear black. It’s perfectly summery feeling and stylish dd has approved it.

SO -

can I wear black shoes or should I try to find a new pair. I can only do a low block heel.

Red feels too flamenco dancer. White? Blush pink? Bright green? Need to be really comfortable and pretty cheap, as I doubt I’ll wear them much beyond the day.

Bag? To match the shoes or not?

Can I get away with nothing on my head?

Thanks in advance!

Why don't you go for a small multi coloured bag, then pick up one of the colours in the bag? This is inexpensive:
https://www.newlook.com/uk/womens/accessories/bags/multicolour-zig-zag-woven-mini-crossbody-bag/p/916355999

then maybe something like this:

I think too much colour would look too busy for me. The bag is sweet but I really don't like those shoes, sorry.

I’ve some bright green shoes I’ve had a lot of wear out of because they go with black things, navy things, some floral or patterned things. They’re wearing out now I’ve worn them so often. Just in case you think you won’t get future wear out of bright shoes.

The Clarks shoes are great!
then maybe bright pink or green bag

Thank you.

Would white shoes and a red clutch veer too much into Minnie Mouse territory?

Thank you. The thing is, I probably only wear heels about three times a year, so I just don't think they'd be worn.

I'm afraid I would never ever wear white shoes. I would buy black or a dull gold strappy sandals.

I think it depends what kind of red. Would probably avoid glossy bright red in case of Minnie Mouse.. but you could definitely do a shade of red.

Which bag though, if the shoes are bright?

I think probably easier the other way round though? Boring shoes and then a bright bag?

Black bag.

But I would never, ever wear gold - it doesn't mean either of us is right or wrong!

I've ordered the dreaded Clarks white ones. Might be a disaster but I'll try them at least.

the clark's ones are off white and the colored heel is great.
excellent summer choice

This Bag could be fab although potentially not massively practical.

Goodness no. The bag will not even be noticed and spend most of its time on or under a table.

For your dress I'd wear red, green, pink, fuschia, multi, flat pumps from Pretty Ballerina.

I like this clutch but it’s quite bland, after all the talk of a bright bag!

You don't need to wear heels. There's gazillions of dressy flats available at all price points.

Totally agree, but I do fancy a low heel or maybe some flats with ballerina style ankle ties,

The shoes you have chosen look good to me. Whilst I agree with others about a bright bag, I do quite like the one you have in mind.

i quite like the quality of KS

New look has always been great for the shoes you’re after

Tenducks · 20/05/2025 05:33

The Clarks ones are great. Simple and classic and therefore can be worn again and again on similar occasions. I’ve had some Clarks stuff for 20 years!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/05/2025 06:59

Thanks again everyone. I don’t think I want a white bag, as it definitely wouldn’t be used again.

Ideally the bag will be one I can use again, maybe on my summer holiday. I’ve got lots of black bags, but I think I need something that isn’t black. I’ve got a red Jigsaw one, but it feels all wrong.

Thank you. I've ordered off-white sandals to try, but I'll have a look at their bags.
