Is this right for a wedding

Im really struggling to find anything that suits me post DC. I’m very petite, 5ft and a size 6 but I hate my post baby stomach pooch. I also have 0 boobs. I’m 35 so not young.

I always get the outfit wrong and would like to feel nice and confident just for once.

Is it too white? Too much?

Alternatively if anyone’s seen something similar that would work I would much appreciate it.
The brief would be:
-Midi ideally or a long mini if acceptable. I know this is maxi but sheer on the bottom so maybe won’t make me look like I’ve stolen someone else’s clothes.
-Normally neck or strappy…can’t do anything that means I can’t wear a bra. Hate one shoulders.uu
-Any acceptable wedding colour except green or yellow as I’m ginger.
-Ideally not too floaty as I drown in it. Maybe less fitted on the stomach but fitted around the bum (my only asset!)

I really want to look classy and expensive rather than cheap.

Any help much appreciated.

Too white in my opinion, and I'm usually fairly laid back about white at weddings
I think it's the white with a light pattern combined with the style
I suspect in photos the light blue might fade out to make it look even more white

Purplecatshopaholic · 18/05/2025 21:01

It’s lovely. You will get the too-white crowd along in a minute though, just saying…

Thank you. I’m really worried about how I’ll look to be honest so don’t want to stand out for the wrong reasons.

I think I like the cut of it rather than the pattern but can’t find anything similar.

Way too white. It’s not suitable.

This thread will turn into a bun fight about you white / not so you maybe better to start another thread just asking for ideas.

Iwilladmit · 18/05/2025 21:08

id love to help but I am anything but petite so my ideas won’t translate.
can you say more about the type of wedding ?

Fourpawsblack · 18/05/2025 21:15

It’s a country hall type of thing with a disco. Sit down meal. Old friends but also people I haven’t seen in a long time there and I don’t want to look awful.
I like fitted clothes normally but as I say I’m worried about my post baby bit below the belly button being clung onto so maybe would like some ruching or a wrap top?

Ive just seen this. I know I dislike green as it washes me out but could it work, I don’t know how acceptable is it to have your midriff out at a wedding as a mid 30s woman.

It does say in the description ideal for a wedding and a reviewer says they wore it for a wedding. But it doesn’t look very forgiving round the waist if that’s what you’re self-conscious about.

OP stop talking about yourself as if you’re an old crone at 35! Grin

Edited to say I was talking about the first dress.

I recently wore this to a wedding, it's fitted but has ruching and no issues with bra wearing! It's very flattering on, I'm 5ft 3 and it was midi length on me.

growinguptobreakingdown · 18/05/2025 21:33

Op get some Spanx or body shaping big knickers if you are worried about a post baby stomach.

User415373 · 18/05/2025 21:44

I personally think it's too white for a wedding. It wouldn't bother me as a bride but some brides are more sensitive.
I was just thinking earlier that so many of wedding guest outfits out this season are white based.
I'm 5ft and a size 8, I've just ordered a 2 piece from Zara which I think looks lovely but in having to get it lined as it's very thin! I think the ruffles make it more forgiving www.zara.com/uk/en/printed-tulle-maxi-skirt-p05039121.html

Op, would any of these work?

This is very classy and flows out just above pooch.

Not this unless you're desi and going for a semi lehenga vibe.
Actually just remembered you're ginger so guessing you're not. Don't.

Too white for me but, colour aside, it's not screaming classy and expensive. I know these mesh dresses are a trend right now and I've seen them worn a lot at weddings this year already, but they do look cheap IMO.

Look for something in natural fabrics, not polyester. The angel sleeves and bodycon make it look a bit cheap. I found this, it's not exactly similar but it's a great bargain and with the right accessories I think it would look great.

The colour is fine- there's enough blue on it, but I agree it doesn't look classy and expensive for the reasons given.

Your suggestion does and is the best on the thread by some margin.

Thankyou everyone!

I love the club London pale blue ones. I looked at these before the post. My only concern is being swamped by a dress that flows out (or looking like a bridesmaid!) I usually wear fitted things to avoid looking bigger than I am but maybe worth ordering. I also love the Reiss one but again it’s floaty so I would have previously discounted. I think I need a style overhaul to be fair as I haven’t been out for so long and my body isn’t the same.

I love the Zara orange one but I’m ginger. Can someone with orange hair wear an orange dress 😄 it comes in yellow but I’m so pale I’m worried I’ll be washed out.

I also love the pink Zara two piece one. I always shy away from prints but maybe I should be braver!

I did nearly order this last night but your suggestions are more wedding. Thanks all!

I wore a blue amd white dress to a wedding don't see what the issue is with it. Was obvious I wasn't the bride.

Not a fan of the dress, the pattern makes me think mother of the bride, the dress makes me think night out.

I am really tempted by this. Can I wear a bra do you think or are the straps too thin?

How floaty is the skirt. I would probably need it taken up as Zara is always crazily long!

I think the straps are top thin but you could wear a strapless one! I'm very short and it's fine on me (with low heels). There is an underskirt but it's just see through so I'm getting a seamstress to put a better one in and I might get her to put something in the top as well.

I'm a similar age, size and height to you and when we were in our late teens and 20s the style was all slim-fitting. Skinny jeans, bandage dresses, bodycon everything, so it can be hard to move on from that but your body aside, fashion has changed and looser-fitting styles are more modern. If you wear a dress that shows your collarbone and ankles/calves it'll be obvious that you're slim, if that's what you're worried about. Showing less is more, especially if you're trying to look elegant. The Zara two piece is lovely, but I'd wear that out for dinner on holiday. It is wedding-appropriate but it doesn't look particularly classy and expensive in that setting IMO, since that's what you're aiming for.

You’ve hit the nail on the head! I’ve always gone for tighter clothes because that’s what I’ve always gone for. I feel like I don’t look classy or stylish though, I think the things I pick look cheap?

Im not worried about looking ‘big’ per se. It just feels like I look like a child dressing up if I wear anything that isn’t figure hugging.

I do like this. Is it too bridesmaid though?
