Am I the only person in the UK right now who hates barrel leg jeans?

I should probably have added 'on me'. I've never found a more unflattering cut of jeans on me. Granted, I'm sure I'm a funny shape because jeans are the bane of my life and when I find a perfect pair I'm ecstatic, but I look comical in them.

I saw someone in a pair of cream ones the other day and they looked effortlessly fabulous. I look like Coco the clown.

Anyone else have a style of clothing that they like on other people but just doesn't suit them? Is it just me and my funny shape?

I must have the same shape. I love barrel leg trousers on the hanger and on other people but they make me look like I'm about to go and harvest turnips in the 13th century.

Devilsmommy · 11/05/2025 09:37

I'm lucky in that I can pull off most styles but I just don't like barrel leg jeans. They do look like clown trousers 😂

Sauvin · 11/05/2025 09:38

I find it hard to believe they look good on anyone

Me too.
As if flapping wide leg jeans weren't bad enough, along come the barrel leg monstrosities.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 11/05/2025 09:40

I love them and am buying them all before the fashion gods make everything skinny again. I am hefty of thigh and athletic of calf, but delicate of ankle.

Berlinlover · 11/05/2025 09:41

I’m in Ireland and can’t see how they could be flattering on anyone.

SirChenjins · 11/05/2025 09:42

I’ve never seen anyone wearing them who looks good in them (imo, obviously). It’s amazing what the fashion industry can persuade people to wear.

Iamnotavicar · 11/05/2025 09:42

They make me look like I’m in fancy dress as Popeye

spoonbillstretford · 11/05/2025 09:46

I don't like them though am currently wearing light cotton trousers which are slightly barrel-esque/harem pant style/gathered at the bottom.

As long as they don't become the only style of jeans available, like low rise and skinny throughout the entire 2010s (it felt like anyway) then I'm all good. I'm very much still embracing the wide leg/high rise/boot cut at the moment.

Deljay · 11/05/2025 09:46

Love them! They are the exact right shape for me. It's such a pleasure to have trousers that actually fit neatly on my waist AND go over my thighs. I'm very hourglassy and long waisted: most trouser cuts look awful on me. Usually end up with a huge gap in the back.

Hoppinggreen · 11/05/2025 09:48

I haven't been brave enough to even try some on yet as I imagine they would look awful on me

MrsPlantagenet · 11/05/2025 09:50

I have yet to see anyone that looks good in them.

Deljay · 11/05/2025 09:50

Oh and the item I always think looks amazing on others and not on me is the crisp white shirt. I love that look! I've bought so many crisp white shirts and without fail I look like I'm wearing my school uniform.

Divebar2021 · 11/05/2025 09:52

Well they don’t all have the same degree of curve in them so some are easier to wear than others. I have a pair from M&S which I’ve have for a few years which are pretty gentle. I also have a pair from Studio Nicholson which are wide but again the actual curve element is not extreme. I won’t be buying any others I doubt because I’m not sure how long the trend is around for.

daffodilandtulip · 11/05/2025 10:17

Yes "on me". I look at people in them and think they are lovely so I find some and try them on. Nope.

Yes! Me too! I just can't carry it off.

I bought a beautiful high neck white blouse a couple of months ago thinking I would look like Emilia Fox in Silent Witness. In reality I looked like I was in an Adam and the Ants tribute band which wasn't really the look I was going for. #showingmyage

I bought a pair, loved them, then saw me in a photo. Going on Vinted now, I looked awful.

SnoozingFox · 11/05/2025 12:28

They're not the most flattering style and I'm really not a fan. I'm past caring about fashion trends though and just wear the style/cut of jeans I find most comfortable.

I have one like that. Much admired at work but then I came home and my partner started doing the Prince Charming dance!

stayathomer · 11/05/2025 12:31

Im torn because anything not to return to the skinnies!!! (Come on the boyfriend and boot cuts, we need you back!!!)

LavenderBlue19 · 11/05/2025 12:33

I look so bad in them, I actually laughed out loud in the changing room. Like a bandy-legged cowboy. I knew they were unlikely to suit me, but I didn't think they'd be that bad 😂

I think like anything unflattering but trendy, you need to be slim and relatively tall.

Boot cuts are already back!!

Searchingforthelight · 11/05/2025 12:55

I don't wear jeans so had to Google what these are

Omg they're not going to flatter anyone!! I'm a bit shocked!
Even someone who looks good in them would look just way better in another cut
