Comfortable sandals

This summer I’m off on a holiday where I anticipate there will be a lot of walking. Can anyone recommend some comfortable (but still relatively stylish) footwear?

I like leather and must have a strap around the ankle/back of foot.

I spent a bit on a really nice pair of Timberland moulded sandals last summer, but after one wear at the weekend, they’re rubbing.

What are your most comfy sandals?

That is really weird @Tallisker I recommended those sandals on another thread and my reply was also hidden and never shown. Anyway I second the Trespass Kimbra recommendation.

Yes, Trespass Kimbra! In fact I’ve just bought another pair seeing they now have them in a pale colour as well as black and brown.

Hotter tourist sandals - the best pair of sandals I've ever had. I've walked many miles in them and they have never been uncomfortable or rubbed.

Tevas!

Whattodowiththesewindows · 03/05/2025 19:25

Of course ,what you might find comfortable does all rather depend on the shape of your foot.....

WoolerOwl · 03/05/2025 19:28

I've just got these, in navy, and they are brilliantly comfortable so far. I blister easily. They are very adjustable so work even on wider feet.

A friend swears by pavers sandals:

People who like the Clark’s ones, what kind of feet do you have? Mine are pretty narrow, Tevas looked like boats on me. I have the Ecco, which are great as they are adjustable, and very comfy, but they really smell after a while, I have to keep washing them.

Callingallbutterflies · 03/05/2025 19:57

Saltwater boardwalk sandals. The best buy I have ever made.

pollymere · 03/05/2025 20:05

I have a pair of Teva ones I wear for proper hiking. Apart from the name making me think of incontinence pads, they are actually pretty decent.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 03/05/2025 20:23

@Dunkou I think pretty average. Reasonable arches. Not especially wide or narrow. I’d prefer leather. I like this style for looks, of the ones I’ve seen from the new recommendations https://www.teva-eu.com/en/gb/womens-tirra-strappy-leather-sandals/737872286859.html

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 03/05/2025 20:29

I don’t really want ones which are very platform-y, like the Crocs. I bought Merrell kahuna last year, but in beige. That’s all they had at the time, and really I want black. They were comfortable but extra clumpy to look at. Although I suppose if they aren’t, then they’re not as solidly comfortable or long lasting. I don’t think the kahuna look so great, though. I know I’m fussy. Perhaps I’ll look at the Trespass too…

JustMeAndTheFish · 03/05/2025 20:44

Dr Martens are the most comfortable I have .

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 03/05/2025 20:45

Thank you @Thankgoditsbedtyme(been there!). I used to LOVE DMs but the new type are possibly too thick soled for me these days. I bet the quality is there, though. (I’m part of the generation which used to wear them to work with skirts and a jacket. Probably no one would blink an eye these days).

Theraffarian · 03/05/2025 20:51

Trespass kimbra , I bought them a year ago after recommendations on here . They didn’t look too much like walking sandals which appealed to me , but are very comfortable.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 03/05/2025 20:57

@TheraffarianIll check them out! Thanks

Fantasy Sandals - they are a greek brand but you can buy them in the UK. They have a list of stockists on their website. They are leather, but the sole has what the call 'bubble sole technology' and they are honestly the comfiest sandals I've ever owned. I have several pairs, and they come in some lovely styles / colours.

NotbloodyGivingupYet · 03/05/2025 21:05

After a broken ankle I got a pair of hotter tourist. I'm normally in tevas all summer but the hotter ones were less "hiking sandal", and more supportive. In fact I like them so much I bought a second pair. The front strap is adjustable so you can get a good fit.

I’m relatively new to them, not sure what the soles were like before but these although thick feel so soft yet supportive. I really can’t tell they are as thick as they are.

Nope no one does. I wear mine to work with a skirt and jacket. Wear them on a night out with a dress, I can’t even imagine pulling on a pair of heals these days hah.

I really like the Tourist sandals- I managed to get a narrow fit pair last summer and would like another pair.

Also just bought my first pair of Tevas.

The Ugg sandals, have straps come in all different colours and are super comfortable.
