Comfortable sandals

This summer I’m off on a holiday where I anticipate there will be a lot of walking. Can anyone recommend some comfortable (but still relatively stylish) footwear?

I like leather and must have a strap around the ankle/back of foot.

I spent a bit on a really nice pair of Timberland moulded sandals last summer, but after one wear at the weekend, they’re rubbing.

What are your most comfy sandals?

Thank you everyone for all of these brilliant suggestions. You’ve all been so helpful, and made suggestions I hadn’t considered.

birkenstocks

When I was nursing I wore Ecco shoes because you didn’t have to break then in! Plus they were so comfortable for a job involving lots of walking and standing for 12 hour shifts! I also had a pair of their sandals for about 10 years. They weren’t the must fashionable, dd called them Jesus sandals, but you could walk for miles in them!

I wanted some that were fashionable and comfortable enough to wear to walk a mile or two in the Greek heat; I’ve worn Blowfish Malibu sandals before so I ordered these from Schuh which looked good for my feet (which are prone to swelling in the heat).
they fit well, I just need to wear them in before my holiday.

They look really nice, are they narrow? As I have wide feet and have a pair of Dr Martens in a similar style but they are too narrow.

Teva. I wear them all summer and usually have several pairs on the go. My feet have permanent "teva tan" markings.

Terra Fi are quite wide fit IMO. One of the other styles is narrower but can't remember the name. Might be a good idea to either order several to try or go inshore.

For day to day life/ holidays I find Terra Fi lite fine. The next models up Hurricane / Terra Fi are more substantial and better for trekking. I don't find the basic models supportive enough.

Another vote for Trespass Kimbra. Worth looking on Amazon for actual pics in the reviews, because they look a lot more like normal sandals/less like walking sandals IRL than they do in the sales pics. But they are super comfortable for me. I have wide feet.

Any kind of Fitflops. I have 2 pairs of the leather wedge ones and can walk for miles in them. Really comfortable and wear very well.

superstar63 · 05/05/2025 06:23

I have ordered the Trespass Kimbra off the back of this thread, they seem to be just what I am looking for, comfy walking sandals that are also not too chunky like most of them so thanks for that.

I got some from Heavenly Feet last year , very colourful , not particularly stylish I suppose but I go for comfort over style anyway . I wear those and Birkie Arizonas all summer .

Crocs Literide - I wore these on a city/beach holiday recently, so comfy with squishy soles. As they are rubber, you can walk over pebbles and paddle in the sea whilst wearing them too!
seems crocs don’t sell this version this season but Amazon have them: https://amzn.eu/d/1dzHPoy

I would live in my Birkenstocks if I could, but I'm not allowed to wear them to work. Just bought these - which I appreciate may not be a typical walking sandal - and I am over the moon with them. I'm on my feet for 12+ hours a day, these are going to be awesome:https://www.laredoute.co.uk/ppdp/prod-350305612.aspx#shoppingtool=sidelinkreco&searchkeyword=Women's%20Sandals%20&%20Wedges%20pikolinos&shoppingtool=sidelinkreco

For leather/stylish ones rather than sporty ones, I'd look at Ecco, Geox and Clarks.

IndigoDynamo · 06/05/2025 11:43

I absolutely love my Merrell Sandspurs - I have lived in them for about 4 summers now.

Mohulu sandals are very soft and comfortable. The footbed moulds to your foot shape and the sole is non slip. A pair of AVON sandals saw me through a very hot holiday last year walking in Turkey. My feet blister easily and I didn't get one blister. A bit pricey but Moshulu often have a discount on your first order.

Fitflops fitflops fitflops

I'm mid 40s with severe back, hip and ankle problems. I also have metatarsalgia and a taylors bunion on both feet. I can walk miles and miles in fitflops.

People who like the Clark’s ones, what kind of feet do you have? Mine are pretty narrow, Tevas looked like boats on me. I have the Ecco, which are great as they are adjustable, and very comfy, but they really smell after a while, I have to keep washing them.

Narrow! xx

PotatoBreadForTheWin · 07/05/2025 10:53

I have these and can confirm that they are incredibly comfortable. I always get compliments on them which is new for me, I don’t think I’ve ever had my shoes complimented before!

Puncturedcouch · 08/05/2025 19:29

Having had a quick read thru on here, the Teva seem to be the best value. They are the cheapest and look to be still good quality and great styles.Passenger are also a good budget choice. The last pair I bought were men's sandals! They are just a better fit and are velcro on the front, toe strap and the back strap for people, like me, who are blessed with feet that swell up like balloons in the heat. My feet can change 3 or 4 sizes in one afternoon, and these are very adaptable. They are made by Lotus, not expensive, look nice (imo) are very comfy and very practical. 😉 about £30/40.
