Do you wear makeup/nice clothes if you know you’re not going out

There are days I spend at home or just go for a walk and I wear joggers, hoodie and no make up. These days I always look in the mirror and think how awful I look which gets me down but I also don’t see the point in wearing nice clothes and wasting make up when there’s no one to see it. What do you do? Should I make more of an effort to feel better?

I just always put some makeup on as part of my morning routine even if don't end up leaving the house that day. Not lots but enough to make me feel less depressed if I catch myself in the mirror without any.

Iloveeverycat · 26/04/2025 19:13

I only wear make-up and dress up if going out for the evening or out to dinner. No one wears makeup at my work and I have to wear a uniform. When at home I just wear jeans and a top. In the summer I will sometimes wear a dress when I go shopping but will change when I get home.

Moier · 26/04/2025 19:15

I don't actually own what people call " old clothes" dog walking clothes/ gardening clothes etc.. because l don't do those things. After my morning shower ( l always wash my hair) I blow dry my hair with products.. and get dressed.. if not going out and it's cold will wear lounge clothes.. if warm a dress.. bit of tinted moisturiser.
If going out .. yes I'll put on my make up and dressier clothes..

wizzywig · 26/04/2025 19:17

Yes. Because I want to enjoy all the stuff I have. Why bother saving it for best

FuckityFux · 26/04/2025 19:19

I never wear make up even when going out and don’t really own nice clothes anymore, but I really don’t care what I look like these days as I know that no one will be looking at me. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Boutonnière · 26/04/2025 19:19

I don’t wear makeup anyway, maybe a bit of lipstick for a serious dress up. I do my hair ( it’s quick) moisturise and spray on some perfume and good to go or stay. I’ve got multiple yoga pants and tops which are my default at home wear - they are relaxed and comfortable without being scruffy.

henlake7 · 26/04/2025 19:20

Usually I wear make up and dress nice even if I'm just walking the dogs and hanging around at home for the day. It just cheers me up
I am also happy to be seen without though. My early morning dog walk is done with no make up and leggings. Also when I'm between nightshifts I tend to slob around in joggers and sweatshirt.

Thronglet · 26/04/2025 19:23

No, I wear my comfies and let my face have a break from makeup.

I dress up quite fancy when I'm out and about so I can't be bothered to do all that if I'm staying in.

I will go out without makeup. I look fine without it!

Cabbagefamily · 26/04/2025 19:25

I never wear makeup but always wear nice clothes, even if not going out. I don’t even own any joggers or hoodies.

Ollybob · 26/04/2025 19:52

If I'm not leaving the house I might not even get dressed and brush my hair!
I can go days only wearing uniform or pyjamas.
Although I don't go out looking like a scruff I'll always be clean, have a bit of mascara on and hair neat.
Would love to be a dresses girl but just can't find the right ones!

LillianGish · 26/04/2025 20:19

Should I make more of an effort to feel better? I think you should! I remember when I had my first baby my mum's advice to me was to always get myself up and dressed first thing and put some make up on so I was ready for anything - even just answering the front door. I definitely feel better when I look better. To be honest, it's such a reflex now I don't even think about it - that's just how I look! Why wouldn't you want to look your best? Jeans, stripey top, white trainers and a navy or ecru mac is about as casual as I go and I would never go out without my lipstick on (or without a nice manicure if I'm honest!)

notacooldad · 26/04/2025 20:32

At home when I put my 'comfies' on it o wear joggers and t shirts but nice ones.
I used to be a bit of a scruffy but as I got older I just looked homeless so wanted to look a bit better but still relaxed.

Make up wise, I always moisturise. As I've had eyeliner tattoo, lip blush, microblade and a few lash extensions I dont need to put make up on.
I always body moisturise as well.

OverpricedCupcake · 26/04/2025 20:33

Hell no, I live in my PJs.

Thepossibility · 26/04/2025 20:37

I dress casually but still put on tinted moisturiser and glowy cream blush. It makes me appear happier and healthier.

Octavia64 · 26/04/2025 20:41

No.

i’m disabled. Make up is a never and I wear clothes that don’t hurt in the house.

posh clothes that hurt are for going out only.

I could have written this !

dudsville · 26/04/2025 20:47

I often wear dresses on at home. For me it's less common to wear skirts at home. As for makeup, I do like to give my skin a break, but I have rosacea so I do often wear foundation, for exactly the reason you describe.

treesandsun · 26/04/2025 21:33

I wear make up every day - I love it - love putting it on - sometimes I wear a little sometimes a lot - but none is dependent on seeing other people.
Clothes - depends what I'm doing - spending the day cleaning the house - prob won't bother with anything too nice - splashed bleach on myself too many times and learnt my lesson.
I do it for me not other peoples benefit though.

hopeishere · 26/04/2025 21:37

Most days I put on a bit of concealer, eye liner and mascara. If I want to look better I’ll put on more make up. I wfh do wear jeans most days. Occasionally leggings.

DappledThings · 26/04/2025 21:42

I don't wear make-up ever. And I don't really have grades of clothes. I'm usually in jeans which are fine for anywhere with a couple of jersey dresses that are pretty every day too.

I have a wedding this year for the first time in ages so will dig out a fancy dress for that.

SharpOpalNewt · 26/04/2025 21:50

I feel confident enough not to bother with makeup if I don't feel like it. I always try and wear comfortable but nice clothes and look good though, even if I'm doing the garden or walking the dog. They would be clothes I don't mind getting dirty though. I also have my nails done regularly and always wear gloves for gardening, cleaning etc.

gingercat02 · 26/04/2025 21:56

No makeup if I'm not going out, but I always have "nice" clothes on, I never wear leggings or joggers etc unless I'm exercising. I'm a jeans and top person generally.

LovelySG · 26/04/2025 22:10

Absolutely not. I shower and wash/ blow dry my hair every day but unless I’m seeing people I’m bare-faced and in comfy clothes eg yoga leggings and a sweatshirt.

outlanderish · 26/04/2025 22:11

Absolutely not, I look like a slog 99% of the time. WFH has made me lazy though. If I'm going out I will make an effort though. My posties are used to seeing me in my joggers or pjs 🤣

I don't even if I am going out! Slob that I am. Today I was cleaning and remembered I had an eBay sales parcel to drop off, so I went as I was in old skinny jeans and bleached spattered sweatshirt. I did put trainers on instead of slippers though. Pretty sure noone batterpd an eye. Carried on cleaning when I got home.
