Comfortable but stylish sandal…. Do they exist?

User1213 · 08/04/2025 20:23

I have a holiday coming up and likely to be walking early evenings so want something stylish but comfortable, can go with casual dresses / shorts etc but jeans at home? Ideally not fully slip on as I have toddlers to chase after.

I am prone to blisters, in fact I don’t think I’ve ever owned a pair of shoes / trainers that don’t cause them hence the need for comfortable and plenty of toe room as I think they sometimes rub but I don’t have wide feet.

I fancy a pair of DM sandals but are they quite heavy? They look uncomfortable

I have a pair in the Blaire model. Leather is soft as anything but because they weigh so much they rub like something else. I love them and they look great so I'm keeping them. I just don't have the guts to wear them as I know I'll be in agony 😢

I bought Tevas after a similar thread 2 years ago and now I am evangelical about them, so
comfy and the straps don’t rub.

I had bad plantar fasciitis a few years ago which sometimes niggles if I go barefoot or wear thin-soled shoes but these never aggravate it.

I have the mid-forms with the thicker sole, similar to this but metallic:

@SiobhanSharpe to be fair to my original post, I said stylish in the sense of a dress / shorts but ok with jeans back home so what I can class as stylish some of the recommendations on here are great for what I’ve asked for, however a really nice restaurant or summer wedding I wouldn’t be looking for and would wear a pair of nice heels or block sandals which I know aren’t comfortable for me.

@GeorgeMichaelsMicStand i love trainers just don’t feel they’re going to be suitable in 40 degree weather unfortunately but I like the look of those and I am on the hunt for a wider fitting pair.

so far the list is
Teva - for the price, if they’re on asos then must have some style. I am early 30s by the way so still do like to dress within trends.
fitflop - look super comfortable
hotters look ideal but the price is a risk

I definitely agree with the Skechers Bob's Desert kiss sandals. I discovered them about 4 years ago and now have 5 pairs in different colours (& slightly differing straps). They are so comfortable!

I am really tempted by the Teva slims. I've been eyeing them up for weeks and they've c
sitting in my online basket for just as long 😅

Ecco for walking/comfort or Gabor

BlackSheepThisYear · 10/04/2025 15:08

Saltwater boardwalks for proper walking - so comfy and can walk for miles.
Saltwater originals for less walking distance but still comfy.
I have a few pairs of both!

Interested to know the answer too OP but I’ve got the additional issue of wide feet!

Ive just been looking at the saltwater ones and they do a wide fit range. They really do look comfortable.

I’m intrigued to find out what Mumsnet HQ have against my recommendation for Trespass Kimbra sandals and Saltwater ones. My post has been hidden for hours!

I did wonder what on earth someone could have written on a thread about sandals that was so shocking it required HQ to look into it 😅

These are the most unbelievably comfortable sandals I’ve ever owned - only thing I could walk in at all after a cycling injury last spring. Since bought 3 pairs in different colours including a beautiful rose gold which is gorgeous for holidays/evenings.

Worn them all for miles on various trips. Super supportive, like walking on air, really secure with back straps, no rubbing anywhere, all straps very adjustable to get perfect fit & also very kind to the area where one (not me of course no no!) might have bunions!😂

They do similar in slimline low profile versions like the Gracie sandals but if it’s comfort you’re after without ugly hiking sandal look these are fabulous!

Oh & hunt around for a discount code there’s always a generous one on the go.

I don’t know if they’re stylish per se, but I have the FitFlop Gracie leather sandals. They just look like normal strappy sandals but are very comfortable for walking without looking like “practical” shoes.

If you have problems with fit, Velcro is your saviour. I have narrow feet & have quite a collection of Whistles sandals in variations on their flat form/Velcro styles from the last few years - in gold, pewter, cream, navy & black!! They've taken over from Birkenstocks for me for everyday wear, as they're comfy, supportive & won't slip or fly off if you run for the bus!

They have a couple of styles in just now:

The Ria comes in black or pewter, & the Ruben in black or ivory. From comparing with the styles that I have, both will be super-comfy but the Ruben extremely so!!

I've never paid full price for any of them - I've bought them in the sales or on eBay/Vinted.

Try Teva

FartyPants9 · 10/04/2025 19:48

Birkenstock have a few stylish looking pairs but the one I like is €190

EleanorMc67 · 10/04/2025 20:03

Some of the older Whistles styles currently on eBay/Vinted. All really comfy & (I think) pretty funky 😁!!

I have these and honestly it's like I'm walking on clouds when I wear them https://amzn.eu/d/bPOXCIZ. If you Google the brand and style name they're available in a few places in a load of different colours too.

Sorry, wrong thread

Thewholeplaceglitters · 10/04/2025 21:39

I love my saltwaters for comfort and not looking too hideous.

Jackdog39 · 11/04/2025 09:12

I really rate these Ancient Greek velos sandals. They have a lovely spongey comfort sole which to my eyes is indistinguishable from the regular sole, thickness wise. The leather is soft and because they are basically a fancy flip flop there is nothing to rub your feet and cause blisters. I love mine and they look lovely with dresses.

I have wide feet and bought some fitflop Gracie sandals in leather - they weren’t nearly wide enough, and I did try to stretch them out but it didn’t make enough difference. Also found the leather was quite stiff. I’ve looked up fitflop wide sandals and there aren’t many options in nice leather style.

Pigeon31 · 11/04/2025 11:27

I love the teva ones. The ones I have at the mo are from merrell who also do a good collection of walking sandals including some with thinner straps, and some more dressy ones like this:

Any of them would be fine for walking miles during the day.

Look up cipriata sandals on amazon. They have a memory foam sole and are so comfortable.

I have a pair of these, theyre so comfy and for the price are as good as the hotters and fitflops

Lilith666 · 11/04/2025 15:13

Another suggestion for Fitflops, they now sell lots of wedges too, all as comfy as trainers and stylish too.

RosesAndHellebores · 11/04/2025 16:33

I'm a fan of Gabor. A good compromise for comfort without being too frumpy. I took a brand new pair for a seven mile walk at the beginning of last summer and not a whiff of a blister or any rubbing. I think they are worth the money I get three years before they look tired and scruffy.

I love the look of Saltwaters but need more arch support.

Josef Siebel used to be excellent but the quality has dived.

SquitMcJit · 11/04/2025 19:40

@BlackSheepThisYear I bought some saltwater originals a few years back - loved them so much but unfortunately I gave myself plantar fasciitis (I’m guessing because they are so flat). From this thread I’ve seen the Saltwater Boardwalks - are they noticeably different from the originals? Look to have a much thicker sole? I would be so happy if I could get a pair but am scared of the damage I did last time!
