Comfortable but stylish sandal…. Do they exist?

User1213 · 08/04/2025 20:23

I have a holiday coming up and likely to be walking early evenings so want something stylish but comfortable, can go with casual dresses / shorts etc but jeans at home? Ideally not fully slip on as I have toddlers to chase after.

I am prone to blisters, in fact I don’t think I’ve ever owned a pair of shoes / trainers that don’t cause them hence the need for comfortable and plenty of toe room as I think they sometimes rub but I don’t have wide feet.

I have loads of colours of Saltwater sandals. They all have a thicker sole. I’ve never had a blister and you can get them wet. Highly recommended.

I'm another Salt-water fan. I have trouble with my heels and ankles but can walk miles and miles in the Boardwalk or Swimmer styles. I live in those or Birkenstocks. They come in lots of colours, including Rose Gold which is quite fancy. I've never paid full price for them. There are often discounts or I've bought on sale from other stockists.

Interested to know the answer too OP but I’ve got the additional issue of wide feet!

wishIwasonholiday10 · 09/04/2025 20:48

I find Tevas super comfortable but do go for sone with thicker soles, not the original ones. I also have some Saltwater sandals with the boardwalk soles which are much comfier than the original ones and look nicer than the Tevas.

I live in my Teva sandals in the summer. Particularly like the Universal “Slim” style as they just look that bit more elegant, but can do 20,000+ steps easy peasy: https://www.teva-eu.com/en/gb/women-sandals/original-universal-slim/1150110.html?srsltid=AfmBOoquFrWJLgWOOY6srqAsz-JNYbPGOqCNj7cGsbtQgB2Y9Sgla80h

They also come in leather which is elevated again but still super comfortable and practical: https://www.teva-eu.com/en/gb/women-sandals/original-universal-slim-leather/1151031.html

Also just got these which are lovely and strappy but minimal still. Only worn around the house but very comfy sole. Normally cannot stand anything with a toe post but this one is really soft somehow: https://www.teva-eu.com/en/gb/womens-olowahu-flip-flops/6840.html?dwvar_6840_color=MBOB

Friends have also raved about this style (have worn for hiking days in Majorca!) but I haven’t personally tried: https://www.teva-eu.com/en/gb/women-sandals/voya-infinity/1019622.html?dwvar_1019622_color=BLK

I bought the Teva slim leather for a recent holiday. Look great and super comfortable

Are you sure you can’t do a trainer? I have 4 pairs of Nike Air max and they are like marshmallows. I have very wide feet and the prospect of sandals with straps in the summer is 😖😖😖

echoing hotter sandals- tramped around WDW for days in them blister free and I blister easily. They come in wide fit too.

WhereAreWeNow · 09/04/2025 22:06

Fitflop for me every time. They do lots of different styles and they're all super soft and comfortable.

PurpleFlower1983 · 10/04/2025 07:48

I love Saltwater sandals and my DMs are also a go to.

TheChosenTwo · 10/04/2025 07:52

Sorry op but I think stylish sandals are an oxymoron and that you can’t have both 😂
I’ve never seen a pair that ticks all boxes!

I fancy a pair of DM sandals but are they quite heavy? They look uncomfortable

Fitflop Gracie with the back strap. I’ve walked miles in mine and I have problem feet!

Agreed. I have them in tan and they go with everything. Got them as I have plantar faciitis and they really help.

Tootingbec · 10/04/2025 10:24

Another vote for FitFlop Gracie here as well. My feet feel supported and the thicker sole stops that aching feeling you get with very flat shoes.

I would love to wear very delicate sandals but honestly they are just not practical unless you are doing minimal walking. So the FitFlop ones are my compromise- just the right side of “orthopaedic” 🙂

SEPMum · 10/04/2025 10:50

Have a look at Air & Grace. Their footwear is really comfortable. Pricey, but they last. I have been wearing their Talia for years; so much more comfortable than Birkenstocks

Bought two pairs of these last year for a city break, amazingly comfortable. I have the navy and the gold as linked

Gabor Lanzarote sandals work great for me/

Are Gabor really good quality because that's quite expensive for a sandal. I'd buy it though if they are outstanding.

Gettingbysomehow · 10/04/2025 12:53

I've got to have a back strap on all my sandals including thong sandals or I can't walk in them. It really makes a difference.

I think all sandals (within reason) look ok if you go to town on your foot care. Cracked heels and fungal toenails will make any sandal look awful.

piscofrisco · 10/04/2025 13:11

I just got some crocs Brooklyn sandals. I know. Crocs. But they are very light, supportive and comfy and they look great (if you like a chunkier sole). I got the black ones with a sort of taupe colour sole. I love them

Lots of very comfortable looking sandals here. Few, if any, are stylish.
Fit flops or crocs in particular are the epitome of anti-style. I have several and they are great for comfort but they range from fugly to ok-ish. They are strictly for casual wear or walking around monuments and palaces on holiday etc. Not for going to a really nice restaurant for dinner or a dressy occasion like a more formal summer party or wedding.
I opened this thread in the hopes of finding a flattering, pretty but comfortable pair of sandals. Nope.

EmmaStone · 10/04/2025 13:33

I've been a Birkenstock devotee for about 20 years (at least 10 of those in Arizona - the 2-strapped ones), but bought some slim Tevas last summer and am converted. Brilliant to be able to walk TO the sea, walk IN the sea, and back again with no issues. And I can throw them in the washing machine anytime. (I do throw my Birkies in the machine as well, but it's not great for the leather!)

BobbyBiscuits · 10/04/2025 13:35

I've had loads of sandals from Moshulu. The different designs and styles have always been comfortable. I wore one pair for the whole summer in Spain and they were great.
