Trends, what new things have you noticed? E.g. No more handbags?

I'll start. Lots of younger women don't seem to have big handbags / large purses / wallets anymore.

What else have you noticed?

In my rural/coastal area most people dress for dog walking on the beach (any old tat as long as it's warm) and stay in those clothes all day! The local surfers change into jeans and sweatshirts but it seems only the visitors walk around the village in Dry Robes. The farmers and farm workers are usually in boiler suits and wellies. If you see anyone in a suit, it's because they're going to a funeral!

Some of our local teenage girls are into vintage things, which I love to see (I'm an avid collector and wearer myself).

coxesorangepippin · 04/04/2025 15:17

It's how to spot the teenager where we live:

Slippers
Sports socks tucked into baggy joggers
Black puffa coat, usually North Face

The girls have long straight hair, the boys have a broccoli cut

The boys don't wear slippers though, usually knackered Adidas

thewarden · 04/04/2025 15:35

I’ve noticed lots of hair bows over the last year as well

hopeishere · 04/04/2025 15:59

High heels. I had a colleague and even until recently she epitomised 90s power dressing. Body con dresses and massive stilettos!

Thank god heels are long gone

Judellie · 04/04/2025 16:47

Everything is still that bright awful leprechaun green in the shops

Yes curls are in @ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea and layers and flicks

Oh yippee! I'm back in fashion again! 👩

My hair and I have a “difficult” relationship… I’ve always wanted smooth, sleek shiny one- length hair - I’ve got naturally massive wavy, curly flicky hair that grows like a weed and is brutally strong.
It resists any form of straightening, product, heat or chemicals and the only compromise we’ve reached in my many years on this earth, is sort of Farrah Fawcett, Charlie’s Angels style. It is surprisingly easy to wash and style,
as it’s doing its own thing, looks elaborate (but isn’t) and about every 10 years or so, “Big Hair” is IN, & I’m a trendsetter again!

Sourisblanche · 04/04/2025 18:20

Yes my hair is very Krystal Carrington with a few more waves after each pregnancy! Thanks hormones. So at least I have that going for me this season.

This Is very rare now to see people in their pjs in my experience.

Same here. People round here don't tend to do it.

EasterOnTheHorizon · 04/04/2025 18:53

@hereismydog

Hmmm, Crystal Tipps.. I have been there, too!
When I couldn’t get it cut for 5 months during Covid, there was a distinct likeness of Crystal Tipps😄 I also bore a strong resemblance to singers in 80s “poodle rock” bands…

PJs outside is a very common look round here. I see several women everyday in very obvious pajamas, sometimes with dressing gowns and slippers.
Teenagers are more likely to do just PJ bottoms or slippers.
I've even seen women in the High St in town in full nightwear.

Although just women! Do men not do this or are their PJs just very hard to spot!?

RampantIvy · 04/04/2025 22:52

QuirkInTheMatrix · 04/04/2025 13:29

I only have a phone out of all that. No bag required.

Same, plus eye drops and sunglasses.
On days I wear make up I never redo it.

tobee · 04/04/2025 23:20

Saw the students pouring out of the all girls 6th form as I drove past today. End of term vibe. Everyone basking in the sunshine, lots of baggy and wide leg washed out colours jeans and neutral colour tops. Free from jackets, jumpers, coats etc. Still a lot of long hair. They all looked fabulous. Just relaxed and happy.

tobee · 04/04/2025 23:22

Lots of longish hair on top and back of boys/youth with abrupt totally shaved at the side, no fade any more. Not particularly broccoli. But maybe just thinking of the footballers on telly last night!

I grew so much extra hair during pregnancy, expected it to all fall out PP but it hasn’t. I had thick, frizzy hair before, now it’s just gone utterly berserk Confused

I think it is because it is usually too cold, wet and muddy wehre I live to wear impractical clothes (edge of Pennines).

This March has been an exception though with mostly dry, sunny days. I still haven't seen any pyjama clad folk though.

Saw a young woman today. Tan, tatts, lips'n'lashes in head to toe beige. Body warmer, stretchy top, leggings and trainers. Pretty sure they would all be from adjoining Primark podiums as you enter. Which sounds bitchy, but would put good money on it 😁

You’re right. It does sound bitchy. And what’s wrong with Primark?

Unless you work in a private secondary/boarding school. Hoardes of them walking around after hours in scuffs and pj bottoms.

DirtyBird · 05/04/2025 20:25

People dress all different ways where I live. It’s nice to see other styles of clothes besides skinny jeans everywhere. I love all the different looks.

This has nothing to do with state schools.

Poonu · 06/04/2025 22:28

Less Jordans definitely
Baggy jean / straight leg
Trainers
Beige faux leather jackets

TheOGCCL · 06/04/2025 23:16

Entire groups of teens wearing exactly the same thing - black coat, grey joggers, white socks, trainers. Literally indistinguishable from each other. I’ve always wondered if Star Trek uniforms were actually our unisex future but turns out it’s much, much duller.

justasking111 · 06/04/2025 23:37

With wavy hair mid length I've stuck to layers and bangs to control it. Back combing is back for volume.

When my sciatica started had to abandon my beautiful tote bags. Discovered much smaller cross body bags. They're fantastic.

Boho I've a few pieces I will have to dig out. No heels allowed but I was given denim espadrilles as a present. Now I'm hooked, so easy.

Never gone out in pyjamas but I've been known to slip to the corner shop and find I'm still wearing my sheepskin slippers 🙈

justasking111 · 06/04/2025 23:48

My youngest son's now wearing loose fitting levis and Cotswold Fox clothing quarter zip top. He's looking very preppy.

It's funny how men are now much more fashion conscious. They've even smartened up their dad
