Trends, what new things have you noticed? E.g. No more handbags?

I'll start. Lots of younger women don't seem to have big handbags / large purses / wallets anymore.

What else have you noticed?

What do you do and where in the country. I literally never see this in London. I travel on the tube daily and i could count on one hand the number of suits on men or anything resembling business dress on women

I’m a lawyer and I work in the city of London - I and all my colleagues and tbh everyone else I see in neighbouring offices and counterparts in meetings - are dressed as described.

BirraMoretti · 04/04/2025 10:07

I think the ‘city’ type professions are the only ones where that still applies. Admittedly I’m in the creative industry which has never been smart but it’s far far more casual these days - I’d actually like to dress up a bit but I’d look completely out of place!

ViciousCurrentBun · 04/04/2025 10:12

People don’t seem to dress up anymore ever. A young woman was wearing a chiffon layered skirt yesterday and a shortish top with a not to my taste but very cute bag yesterday that came in the shop I volunteer in, she looked really beautiful. We had a chat and I relayed the tales of how people used to actually dress up when I was young. I am glad heels are not seen as always needed now thought I had loads of beautiful heels when younger. I loved LK Bennett shoes and had a few pairs. Where I live up North lots of women still wear a huge amount of make up and lots of very long over done nails.

MidnightMeltdown · 04/04/2025 10:21

Can’t say I’ve noticed people ditching handbags. I think I would find that difficult. I almost always carry at least an umbrella, phone, purse, tissues, lipstick (or full makeup bag if out all day). Unless coat has massive pockets, it wouldn’t work for me, and even then, it would probably make me look bulky/out of shape.

I’m in north and see lots of young women who dress up too much (as in everything on display). There doesn’t seem to be much in between these days.

Beige and cream everything. Dullsville.

Maybe it's area dependant but I'm noticing the opposite!

'Dopamine dressing' e.g bright colours, clashing patterns, animal print, 90s & retro styles. I'm really enjoying it!

I was out on the weekend up north and all the students were wearing baggy jeans with tight tops. Very 90s.

cunoyerjudowel · 04/04/2025 10:24

Crop tops for all sizes- having a little tummy overhang is now acceptable- which was nto
always the case

athleisure with over sized jumpers too

Yes, I agree. Plus things fall out of pockets unless they're zipped and what do you do when you take your coat off? A small bag is easier to carry around than a coat.

To be fair, she could have been feeling pretty rough and felt too poorly to get dressed properly.

I wish I had the nerve to do this. Having to get up and get dressed to see the dr is shit when you’re ill.

This may be because baggier trousers actually have usable pockets. I never carried a bag untill I started working in the city mid 2000's.

Saw a young woman today. Tan, tatts, lips'n'lashes in head to toe beige. Body warmer, stretchy top, leggings and trainers. Pretty sure they would all be from adjoining Primark podiums as you enter. Which sounds bitchy, but would put good money on it 😁

TBF I love Primark for basic bits that are going to get alot of wear. They def have a place in my wardrobe but I really dont like the head to toe beige look.
Seems very boring to me and its usually some sort of athleisure as if people are constantly on their way to or from the gym!

I did read a Vogue article on my phone today about how the staff are loving over sized shirts with baggy jeans or joggers for an office casual look.
Maybe Im old but that really depressed me!😆

RhododendronFlowers · 04/04/2025 11:13

Where I work we aren't allowed to wear trainers, any kind of denim, or leggings. Tops should cover the shoulders.
So we tend to wear smart trousers or dresses, plus jacket with brogues or loafers.

Boho is back.

It never went away for me the last 30 years.

Iloveeverycat · 04/04/2025 11:19

I said to my 26 year old DD She looked like Farah fawcett the other day had to show her a photo.

Yes, I've seen quite a lot of Farrah hair!

Iloveeverycat · 04/04/2025 11:23

Boy's wearing loafers and white socks
very 80s for girls too I wonder if blakeys will come back. I loved wearing blakeys

Oceangrey · 04/04/2025 11:24

I also work in the City and wear pencil skirts, suits etc. But almost never heels. I do think a lot of City offices have gone more casual, butt not ours.

Not a fan of full on beige personally.

Teenagers seem to be grungy again.

henlake7 · 04/04/2025 13:27

Teenagers not so grungy round my way....in fact they dont seem to have a cohesive look TBH.
Just today Ive seen them out in leggings, bootcut jeans, hotpants, joggers with everything on top from a vest top to a hooded parka!

I only have a phone out of all that. No bag required.

Mamofboys5972 · 04/04/2025 13:31

Wearing joggers with a "nice" top! Joggers to me are total comfys, not dressed up at all !

I’m in the city working in asset management. Outside of lawyers and insurance brokers, traditional business dress is MIA. Our grads seem to only own trainers and occasionally loafers.

I don’t think it’s appropriate to fully dress down in my role but I haven’t worn a pair of heels since c February 2020.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 04/04/2025 14:17

I have 2 teens. Definitely grungy!

I often don't carry a bag, often everything I need I on my phone.

Love that

Picklepower · 04/04/2025 14:27

Big and baggy but equally girls of all shapes and sizes seem comfortable in sports bras and teeny tiny shorts

I too have ditched the handbag. I think paying by phone has made it less necessary, I rarely take my purse out

Highlighted hair of pink, green, blue, orange, purple on all ages and genders. Nearly always on unstraightened hair.
