Trends, what new things have you noticed? E.g. No more handbags?

I'll start. Lots of younger women don't seem to have big handbags / large purses / wallets anymore.

What else have you noticed?

80’s hair is back

AllFours · 01/04/2025 13:22

90s everything!

Mog65 · 01/04/2025 14:35

Wear your PJs anywhere. Nobody seems to get dressed up to out. All very casual

BobbyBiscuits · 01/04/2025 14:38

Tops that expose the stomach as casualwear for women of any size. I dk if that's new or not but I just would never expose my belly even though I'm skinny. I guess I lack confidence as a lot of young women look good in those tops.

thewarden · 01/04/2025 14:49

Teen fashion seems very 90s and early 2000s (or y2k as they call it) lots of throwback looks.

Yes, when I look back at photos from 2010-2015 nights out everyone was very business-casual for clubbing 🤣 Lots of high heels, pencil skirts and blazers.

Fuuuuuckit · 01/04/2025 15:01

I stopped using a handbag in 2003 when it was replaced by a nappy bag for the dc. 8 years later when they were all finally potty trained reliably I had got so out of the habit I barely use one. On holiday soon and in despair as I've got nothing suitable for carrying stuff other than a crappy backpack!

Beige and cream everything. Dullsville.

TizerorFizz · 01/04/2025 15:49

Leggings or wide jeans. Waist length tops. Short jackets. Retro slim line trainers. Suede moccasins/boat shoes, baggy storm wear jacket with a belt. Anything safari style but a jacket with big pockets at the front is good if it’s cropped. Peplum tops and bubble hem skirts. Shorts. Long Skirt with see through lower half - eg in lace.

babymaybebaby · 01/04/2025 15:56

I see lots of women with handbags but casual, less structured ones.

This Is very rare now to see people in their pjs in my experience.

TheChosenTwo · 01/04/2025 19:21

I hate taking a bag anywhere and pretty much only take one to work or when travelling. And I go hands free with them as much as possible.
Day to day I use pockets for keys and phone.

stolenlullabies · 01/04/2025 19:23

I’m another who hasn’t used handbags since pre DC. I am v low maintenance though and only really have my phone with me and I just put that in my pocket along with my keys.

I wondered about “office work wear” recently but when I was shopping for casual wear in Mango last weekend everything felt very formal.

High heels don’t really seem to be much of a thing anymore.

stolenlullabies · 01/04/2025 19:26

What I notice more than anything else is the facial work, on the twenty somethings all the way up to fifty somethings. My cousin is 25 and has that botox, fillers, lip pumped look, it seems to be fairly ubiquitous. I think it makes it hard to place age, but definitely makes the younger girls look older than they are which baffles me a bit.

weareallcats · 01/04/2025 19:28

I have tried hard to ditch a handbag, but find I can’t. Most days I don’t carry much - phone, cards in a tiny little wallet, lip balm, lipstick, tampon, keys - surely if you pare right back you still have phone and keys, and risk not having a bank card or a tampon in an emergency…Other days I have things like books and knitting to carry about, maybe I’m just old (42!).

I love that 90’s fashion has come back though - my dd is 15 and dresses almost exactly as I did in the 90’s.

Today there were cycling shorts as day wear - I want to say ‘not in my day’ but unfortunately I think we did that too.

Yes! The mullet!!

I use a belt bag most of the time, otherwise something I can fit my laptop and lunch in. Having said that, when I do need to carry a huge amount of things, Black & Beech do a fantastic oversized tote that would fit in kit for a whole day at the beach https://blackandbeech.com/products/do-no-harm-take-no-shit-massive-tote-bag

high waists on jeans and tucked in tops make me think early 90s. Very ‘first season of Friends’

Mullet also had a moment in the early 2000’s - awful every time. My ds said he wanted one and I said I wasn’t paying for it - everyone eventually regrets a mullet.

fuckthemail · 02/04/2025 13:56

Oh yes definitely less heels now I think about it

The make up thing baffles me. It seems like the choice is little / no makeup or otherwise lots of procedures etc. There seems to be a lot less 'in between'?

I also noticed much more casual at clubs (rare occasions I've been!)

Do you mean the perms and ‘big hair’? I’ve not seen this recently but I loved my 80s perm, particularly with the sun-in streaks!

Maitri108 · 03/04/2025 01:35

I had no idea why women had those massive handbags. I use coat pockets or a small bag I carry water in with my phone and keys.

Agree. I want to transplant a Bay Trading from the mid 00’s into a shopping centre now and show young people what gorgeous, sequinned, beaded camisoles and glittery jeans were like. Or a a mid 90’s Miss Selfridge.

coxesorangepippin · 03/04/2025 01:53

Slippers as outdoor shoes

Phone tucked in back of leggings

coxesorangepippin · 03/04/2025 01:55

Office wear actually worn in an office seems to have taken a nose dive too

Everyone is casual it seems
