Royal Style: a day starts well if it starts with Mary of Teck.

The next thread, royal style mavens! The title suggestion was from our last thread. Mary of Teck was never knowingly underdressed or less than bejewelled!

Here's Max and family on King's Day. Not sure about the pockets on her dress - I think it would look better without. Amalia loves a caped dress, though the fit is slightly off in this one. I think Alexia wins it for me - that's something I'd wear myself! Her hair is glorious too.

...perhaps a nipple cover or two would have helped? I'm ultra fussy about nips as I have only the one that usually stands to attention unless I squash it!

Maireas · 26/04/2025 12:55

Alexia looks great, such a stylish outfit.

Amalia’s dress is very ill fitting. It’s a lovely colour though.
Max’s dress doesn’t need those oddly placed pockets.
Nice informal outfit on Alexia

A few more pics from King’s Day.
Max’s pockets do look odd!
The lady in the purple jumpsuit is Princess Annette.

So many royals at the popes funeral. All in black so hard to critique.

Maireas · 27/04/2025 08:08

Yes, although Brigitte Macron's hair was quite stand out, I thought. She chose a very bouffant style.

Lovely photos of the family on King’s Day. Princess Annette looks great.
I always think Brigitte Macron’s hair is a wig @Maireas

Maireas · 27/04/2025 08:45

Really, @deeahgwitch ? It certainly stood out yesterday!

Agreed. There have been some articles questioning if blue suits and ties and ladies without lace veils or another head covering were in line with the funeral dress code. Brigitte is listed as not complying but my thought was that she IS wearing a head covering - a wig!

(Re the men’s suits, I don’t understand why several men with unlimited funds to buy suits and already owning black suits would not wear black suits as it’s more a traditional mourning colour. Are they making a statement about their level of respect for the pope? Worried about looking too old / ill / orange in black? While technically dark suit was compliant I am curious as to why Trump, Biden and Prince William didn’t wear black.)

Maireas · 27/04/2025 10:07

They looked smart and appropriate, they were all respectful. I think some of them getting their phones out was worse than wearing a navy suit.

I agree. A very dark blue is perfectly appropriate and respectful, especially if the country they are representing isn't Catholic where I think more weight will be put on wearing black and head coverings etc. But I was horrified at the numpties who filmed/took photos of the coffin. Who does that?? They showed themselves to be entirely without class and decorum.

I really enjoyed this retrospective even though I’ve seen it before. Love the captions on the Obama photos especially! Come back, indeed!

I want her to revise this slideshow with the update to the Danish Royal Family; both Fred's promotion and Joachim's family's demotion. There would be shaadde.

AllTangledUpInDaisiesAndDiadems · 27/04/2025 11:15

There doesn't seem to be much tension/animosity in regards to that anymore. Both Joachim and Marie have been warm and cheerful when appearing with the family. It was a shock at the time but with Margrethe's abdication the reason for the rush to implement that change was made abundantly clear.

CodandChipz · 27/04/2025 11:25

I think very dark blue just photographs and looks more expensive than black quite often.

Women of 72 don’t have hair like Mme Macron’s. It has to be a wig.

eggandonion · 27/04/2025 15:34

It was quite a hairdo! I wonder if many dignitaries are still in Rome? Meeting up for a pizza.

Mine is very like hers, full and thick and a bit longer but better because it looks natural. It’s silver grey, though - I’m 71.

Sounds gorgeous!
I didn't know Brigitte wore a wig. Many women in my family had very thick hair well into their 90s, so I didn't realise.

Many women of all ages wear wigs. Joan Collins is one that always comes to mind.

My MIL is in her 80s and has very thick hair, which she wears in a wavy shoulder-length bob and looks great. But she has had really thick - almost coarse - hair her whole life. You can see it in photos when she was younger.

Mme Macron looks to have normal to fine hair in photos of her when she was younger. I’m another who thinks she wears a wig now. And no shame in that - she’s has enough ridiculous public scrutiny as it is.

Wig or not, she is certainly trés chic!

Maireas · 27/04/2025 19:47

I was just about to say, I like that sharp suit on the right. She always wears well cut clothing in good colours.

OP posts:
justasking111 · 27/04/2025 22:05

She's also had a nose job and dental work comparing those pictures.

Joan Collins said Dynasty damaged her hair so badly she started wearing wigs and kept it up.

She is.
But I’m not an admirer.
I can’t get past how they got together.
