50 something woman that has noted trainers seem to be the thing to wear for smart casual instead of my usual ballet flats. No idea of what brand or style appropriate. Which do I wear with jeans

Some Adidas spezials, Gazelle or Samba, or New Balance 530.

NeoName · 27/03/2025 22:19

I want these New Balance. I just love their retro simplicity.

woodymumoftwo · 27/03/2025 22:21

Hoff are great classy trainers

OopsieeDaisy · 27/03/2025 22:24

Second the adidas suggestions - loads of different colour options too. For some reason I can never find any New Balance styles I like at all, although I know they’re very popular!

Starlight1984 · 28/03/2025 13:25

Adidas Sambas or Gazelles. Yes they're popular but for a reason. Plus there are so many colours and styles!

Blingismything · 28/03/2025 14:44

Autry or Hoff

GuitarSt · 28/03/2025 18:46

Hoff always get recommended on here but I’ve only once seen someone wearing them in real life and have never heard them mentioned anywhere else either. I’m a middle-aged woman who goes to lots of places - cities, rural, north and south. Are they a particular mumsnet thing?

I really like them, it just puzzles me 😀

I love those.

I have Onitskuka Tiger Mexico 66s which were recommended by a fellow MNetter. They're lovely, and they're comfortable. I have the two colours below, but I see they're more expensive now than when I bought them:

MEXICO 66 | Onitsuka Tiger GB

MEXICO 66 | Onitsuka Tiger GB

ThePoshUns · 28/03/2025 21:11

Oh those are nice too @upsofloating? I have never heard of that brand

CharlotteCChapel · 28/03/2025 21:42

I like reebok best as they don't rub my heels.

Blarn · 28/03/2025 21:46

If you like the look some of the New Balance styles try Golas. There are some great colours which are a little bit more up to date than the ubiquitous white ones. Although always useful to ha e a white pair of course.

DuchessOfNarcissex · 28/03/2025 22:27

I have these and they are very comfortable, and look a bit like the NBs

I like Jimmy Choo trainers, but they're pricey. For everyday sneaks I like Jordan 1 Low. My favourite pair at the moment are the black and gold method of make, they don't look much in pictures, but they look great on. They've kept pristine too.

There are lots of people who wear them. I watched a bake off programme before and Rosie Ramsey had a pair on. Clearly you don’t live in two places at once so how would you know how many people wear Hoff???

Titasaducksarse · 28/03/2025 22:48

DuchessOfNarcissex · 28/03/2025 22:22

Gosh they're like new balance 327s.

I have to be so careful what I wear and need arch support and found things like skechers and puma/Adidas awful unless I added insoles. Recently bought some from Vionic...brilliant and wore a whole week in European cities sightseeing.

StrikeForever · 28/03/2025 22:51

I love Nike Cortez

DuchessOfNarcissex · 28/03/2025 22:51

Ish - but extremely comfortable and look great with non-skinny jeans

I have big feet and a small frame, so look ridiculous in big clumpy trainers. I wear Sambas as they have a sleek profile and look pretty smart with jeans.

Ineedpeaceandquiet · 29/03/2025 07:44

New Balance are not trendy.

My teenage said I could wear them over his dead body 😂

NB are always 'in' to an extent, with young (over 21) professionals and fitness enthusiasts (and yes, with Mums! Nothing wrong with that 😊).
I have a 15 year old daughter, she's very on trend with her fellow teens, however I wouldn't be taking ANY style advice from her 😂 Teenagers just want to be carbon copies of each other, their range tends to be very limited, they don't get a decent sense of their own style until they're late teens (out of school).

NeedWineNow · 29/03/2025 09:22

I got these from Sainsbury's of all places. Love them! They are so comfortable.

I have NB RC42. They are sleek and not as chunky as others, but also great for long walks.
