Hi all! Can I wear this to a summer wedding? I’m early 40s, short but never wear heals (flatforms are ok), a chubby size 12. I’m also close family and a witness. I REALLY struggle with this kind of thing - formal clothes just never seem to work for me. Any other suggestions?!
Also, what are Farm Rio like from a quality perspective?

Oh, give over, @minnienono! Grin It’s a normal Summer dress. And - newsflash - some families love bright colours! Even in photographs!

Weddings should be about exuberance and unlimited joy. Not timidity and disapproval. 🍋

It's beachwear, but eaches own. I think it's very look at me colour wise too, not good for the photos

It really isn't. It's a normal summer dress.

Contrary to S&B wisdom, a broad neckline and giant sleeves flatter my shape. I think it's often much better to lean into your natural build than try to 'minimise' yourself to some standardised formula.

Completely agree with this.

Chewbecca · 09/03/2025 11:41

I love the dress and think it sounds perfect for the wedding you describe. Square necks are very flattering on me but sadly I know orange does nothing for me.

I would describe it as a joyful dress. Hope it looks great on you.

Ireolu · 09/03/2025 12:49

I love farm rio and this would work for a summer wedding. Quality of their stuff is very very good.

Sunnydays25 · 09/03/2025 12:58

Sorry to be a party pooper, but I don't think this is a good call, it reads very beach dress to me, not wedding dress at all, will be overpowering in photos.

bridgetreilly · 09/03/2025 14:05

For a summer wedding, that is perfect.

bridgetreilly · 09/03/2025 14:08

As for shoes, green, pink, gold, white. Not orange. Yellow could be fab.

NiceProblems · 09/03/2025 14:13

I love it OP, maybe we can get a picture when you try it on? (Chop off you head if needs be)

TizerorFizz · 09/03/2025 17:15

Farm Rio are quite expensive and not beach dress fabrics. They are a higher quality than that.

It’s a fairly chilled country, rustic wedding. I think it’s assumed I might wear something a bit ‘out there’…! I’m white and (bleach) blonde but tan well. I’m sort of into the puff sleeve thing - I’m not sure if they’re technically flattering on me but I like them and a square neckline tends to suit (or at least I like it!) I’m not very photogenic so I feel like at least if I’m loving what I’m wearing I’ll be less critical of myself?!? I’ll check out rixo as well!

You have chosen really well - its gorgeous and absolutely spot-on suitable. You will feel fabulous in this. As I'd never heard of the label, thank you for the link.

Alwayswonderedwhy · 09/03/2025 21:52

Absolutely gorgeous. I'd definitely wear it to a wedding.

blueshoes · 10/03/2025 01:10

The dress is really striking. I love the colours and print. If you say the style suits, I'd say go for it.

You will stand out in the photos 😂

How will you do your hair?

blueshoes · 10/03/2025 01:35

For those who have bought Farm Rio, what is the sizing like. Do they come up tall?

Some of the dresses look like they would need someone tall to carry the detail.

I asked their customer service what the typical height of their models is, and they told me 5'10".

I don't have any of their dresses (yet!), but I have some shirts, a jumper and swimming shorts. I did try on and return a dress last year. I'd say their sizing is generous. I'm 5'9", broad-shouldered and strong-featured, so bold patterns don't drown me, but FR have a lot of designs that are more delicate, and it looks like several of their maxi dresses are ankle or mid-calf length on the models.

unsurenow2025 · 10/03/2025 10:37

Beautiful dress! Doesn't read 'beach' to me at all, too formal for beach wear imo.

Aibusadandhormonal · 10/03/2025 10:44

Gorgeous. Perfect for a relaxed wedding. I might get one too...

Pumpkincozynights · 10/03/2025 10:48

That dress is gorgeous.

@TheLeadbetterLife thanks for replying. I am taken by the midi and maxi dresses. They are long even on the models and if you say the sizing is generous, I suspect my 5 ft nothing self will be swamped. Oh well😬

BlossomBlossomBlossom · 10/03/2025 12:37

@blueshoes - it’s obviously difficult if a dress has been made with a placed print - very hard to shorten without ruining the effect. (And it’s a credit to Farm Rio that they take such care over making their clothes.)

But there are some like this with a more random print - this could easily be shortened in the middle section above the hem ruffle. Don’t give up!

blueshoes · 10/03/2025 13:01

@BlossomBlossomBlossom make sense about the print. That is a sweet dress.

Sd352 · 10/03/2025 13:27

I love Farm Rio and have 7 outfits from them (although I do find the quality is variable -- I think the quality for exported dresses is better, while the dresses are much cheaper in Brazil but seem a bit lower quality). Depending on your style, you could definitely wear them to a wedding (love the dress you chose even though it is not my style).

PS yes, the maxi dresses are long (but easily shortened, at least the ones I have) and the midis are maxis on me (5'4).

Sd352 · 10/03/2025 13:31

(On other brands that have been suggested, I only have one Rixo dress and was not impressed; decent materials but did not look flattering on me. Zimmermann is gorgeous but so expensive for what it is, I have a couple of swimsuits but only one dress but what a dress, such buttery soft silk!)

fluffiphlox · 10/03/2025 14:14

Some people would carry that off brilliantly. Make sure you are one of them. (I wouldn’t be one of them, it’s not so much the boldness of the colours, more the puffed sleeves which have never done anything for me).

EspanaPorfavor · 10/03/2025 15:19

I have this one! Isn´t it beautiful?! Just jumping on the thread to share the Farm Rio joy. I don´t even have a wedding to go to I just loved it and bought it.
