Want to recommend these jeans to everyone but esp to the short and be-bellied.

I haven't been able to transition out of my elder millennial skinnies before now as no other jeans I've tried have looked right or felt comfortable on my body shape (5'4, size 14 with a belly).

Bought these in the short length in black and they are just perfect. Soft but sturdy denim with stretch, super comfy, suck the belly in, perfect wide leg without being too much. Went straight back online and bought the blue ones.

As a fellow short/wide person can I recommend the M&S boyfriend jeans - they're wide enough to look modern but not too much fabric and they come in a whole range of sizes/colours/leg lengths.

I'm looking at the recommendations on here and especially the New Look ones but worried that anything but skinny jeans will just make me look shorter and dumpy (I'm 5 ft nothing).

Indeed, I am similar height .

Having tried on loads of jeans from New Look , Next and M ans S , I went for M and S Lily jeans. Not skinny but slim fitting , I've had them before in black but they were the best for fit and comfort.

Tried on M and S 'short' length ankle grazer mom and they were full length on me 🤣.

Whodrankmytea · 21/03/2025 10:41

Thanks @Coffeeforayear I will take a look at those but I think I need to go and try on at a shop to be on the safe side. I hate shopping for jeans!

teagirl27 · 22/03/2025 16:21

I tried these on your recommendation and confirm they are no good for a pear shape like me. I did find others that I liked though, particularly the Yazmin ones

rockstarshoes · 24/03/2025 22:02

Sadly they were a fail for me! I’m just too much on an apple! They were about half an inch too small on the waist but fit perfectly everywhere else!

I was tempted to keep them & do the old hair bobble round the button trick but they have gone back!

LoveDandelions · 10/04/2025 13:25

Those of you who have the New Look jeans in more than one colour - do you find the size consistent across colours? My local store only had one colour in my size...

DataColour · 10/04/2025 15:03

I don't have the same jeans but I have the Hannah in 2 colours in the same size but the blue one is slightly tighter than the grey one.

I have bought myself low rise wide leg trousers from Topshop and they are really good. They suck in my C-section pouch wonderfully and I look flat tummied which has never happened even pre kids.

Useruseruser01 · 10/04/2025 15:12

Does anyone know if New Look short length is suitable for a 5 foot nothing person?!
I hate hate HATE jeans shopping because I can never find jeans short enough… in fact most of my proper jeans are over 10 years old and I’ve resorted to buying joggers style cuffed jeans to deal with the length issue. These look great but I def can’t do wide leg if they’re dragging on the floor!

They're not atually 'short', tbh. I think 30"...

LoveDandelions · 10/04/2025 15:28

I think there's a petite range but didn't see any at the shop I was in.

Oooh, I liked the Hannah jeans too but the blue was a little snug...

I'm 5 foot and bought petite jeans from New Look recently. The length is great for me. I started following The Petite Lady on Instagram a few months ago and she has done lots of reviews of petite jeans (various styles) recently which has been really helpful.

I got the white version off vinted and they are tighter than the blue ones. I can just about wear them with longer tops that hide my overspill, although I'm hoping they will stretch with wear as they are new.

Bobbi73 · 14/04/2025 00:13

I’m going away with a few friends soon, many of whom are fashion conscious and slim. I’m worried that I’m going to look like someone’s chubby aunt.
I’m going to go this week and hope to get something that fits. Thank you for the tip

Oblomov25 · 14/04/2025 09:10

I don't like wide leg jeans. I don't want skinnies, I just want something in between. And I'm very short.

Sulu17 · 14/04/2025 09:22

Just ordered some and found a working coupon too.

LightOfAThousandStars · 27/04/2025 16:15

Thanks for sharing these jeans OP, I was looking through Mumsnet to find a new style replacing my current skinnies. Does the material on the New Look ones feel lightweight?

SlowFerry · 27/04/2025 17:11

@LightOfAThousandStars

i ended up buying these jeans on OP’s recommendation too!

They are not lightweight. I was going to wear them today but decided it’s too warm.

Incidentally, I have now washed them at 30 with dark wash liquid, they have not shrunk or faded and still do an excellent job of minimising my hysterectomy overhang.

LightOfAThousandStars · 27/04/2025 17:39

Thank you @SlowFerry , I was hoping they would be lighter material but will pick up a pair to wear when it's cooler and keep hunting for some thinner material ones for the warmer days.

DataColour · 28/04/2025 14:36

I have bought these from Uniqlo
https://www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/products/E473791-000/00?colorDisplayCode=32&sizeDisplayCode=003

They are great. I'm 5 '1 and they are just the right length for me when worn at the natural waist they just hit the floor, so fine with shoes and sandals. Belly can't be seen either. I got them in 3 colours and hoping to get a lot of wear out of them this summer.

Oblomov25 · 30/04/2025 21:31

@Gwenhwyfar
all the ones I'm trying on at the moment the crotch is too low. How do I get around that?

I think you might need to try a different pair of jeans, some have that part longer than others

annonymousnamechange · 02/05/2025 13:56

I got very excited about the OP recommendation yesterday and rushed off to try them today. I looked like a bag lady sadly. Not quite 5 2 and tummy thanksto the menopause. Most unflattering think I've tried on in a while so will check out the other recommendations

Gettingbysomehow · 02/05/2025 14:03

I don't buy anything from new look, the sizes are ridiculous. The last thing I bought in there a size 14 pink blazer was at least a size 20 and massive. The sleeves hung about 6 inches below my fingertips. I sent it back. The labels all said size 14.

Pickled21 · 02/05/2025 14:36

I have these jeans and I love them. I do find new look sizes to be a hit and miss though so rarely order online. I went to a larger new look store to try them on. This range is available in petite but they sell out rather quickly.
