Can anyone help my DD identify these trousers…

We live in a Russell Group university city and in the last year or so, lots of the (posh) students have been wearing a certain kind of (what looks like) white, wide leg linen type trousers with a blue woven panel down each side. They seem to be unisex, from the boys it looks like they also do shorts, and it’s definitely the posher students wearing them. I can’t find them anywhere and have no idea what brand they are, but teenage DD declares they’re her ideal trousers.

Some of these kids will definitely be MNers’ children (massive over generalisation but these are Home Counties, wealthy, uni students also wearing Lacoste bags (girls) and consciously dressed down posh sliders and socks (boys)). If you know this look and know some posh-ish students you will know exactly the trousers I mean!!!

Ive googled until I’m blue in the face and just can’t find them.

I think DD would die of embarrassment if I went up to one of said students in town and just asked them 🤣…

Amazing! That was so quick! It’s 100% Tom’s Trunks. She will be so happy (and I expected a waaay bigger price tag). Thank you!!!

Those trousers look just like the roller towels from 1970s school toilets.

RunVelma · 08/03/2025 01:11

I’ve never seen anyone wear trousers like those in my life. Never have I felt further away from “Home Counties, wealthy, uni students”. They’ll probably reach us 2 years from now…

The photos on the website home page look like the north Norfolk coast, aka Chelsea-on-Sea. Lots of youngsters fitting the OP's description around there in the summer - I will now be keeping an eye out to see how many of them are wearing those trousers.

coxesorangepippin · 08/03/2025 01:22

God MN is good 😂

BambooScaffolding · 08/03/2025 01:23

Haha I knew these would be Toms Trunk's
I'm 54 and have a red pair, my teens tease me about them but they are insanely comfortable!

coxesorangepippin · 08/03/2025 01:24

They do look extremely comfortable

Deathraystare · 08/03/2025 07:45

@legallyblond

That's good news then, innit? Not exactly Primark Prices but not Armani either!!! Your DD will be thrilled!

emanresu24 · 08/03/2025 07:48

Pyjamas daily fashion now? They look very comfortable.

LittleEsme · 08/03/2025 08:12

They just wear them out and about?!

legallyblond · 08/03/2025 08:16

Thanks all! Mumsnet is indeed v good! Sorry for the over generalised and ott descriptions, but if anyone knew the trousers, they’d recognised the “type” described and that’s the quicker way I had of identifying the elusive brand. They do indeed wear them out and about…. They don’t look bad, they are just a particular trend!! As per the website, v often worn with those Birkenstock clogs…

richardosmanstrousers · 08/03/2025 08:19

They are lounge pants, essentially pyjama bottoms?

legallyblond · 08/03/2025 08:27

@richardosmanstrousers worn as totally normal trousers

Dd is at uni and we were talking about these the other day, she said they are known as Tory trousers as all the posh kids wear them.

worstofbothworlds · 08/03/2025 08:37

I work at a university (campus, 1994 group) and I never ever saw these. I now feel relieved. But as a PP said they will probably reach us in a couple of years.

BarkLife · 08/03/2025 08:41

Tory Trousers Grin Tory Teatowel Trousers?

Fashion is such a funny thing. OP, I was intrigued by your description but now I've seen them I'm Shock

legallyblond · 08/03/2025 08:42

DD is a young teen and, just to be clear, would not identify with the “Tory” type but is quite a tomboy, v keen on watersports and 5ft 10, and has been after baggy, beachy/ surfy, pale blue or green trousers for ages.
