Can anyone help my DD identify these trousers…

We live in a Russell Group university city and in the last year or so, lots of the (posh) students have been wearing a certain kind of (what looks like) white, wide leg linen type trousers with a blue woven panel down each side. They seem to be unisex, from the boys it looks like they also do shorts, and it’s definitely the posher students wearing them. I can’t find them anywhere and have no idea what brand they are, but teenage DD declares they’re her ideal trousers.

Some of these kids will definitely be MNers’ children (massive over generalisation but these are Home Counties, wealthy, uni students also wearing Lacoste bags (girls) and consciously dressed down posh sliders and socks (boys)). If you know this look and know some posh-ish students you will know exactly the trousers I mean!!!

Ive googled until I’m blue in the face and just can’t find them.

I think DD would die of embarrassment if I went up to one of said students in town and just asked them 🤣…

Dd is at uni and we were talking about these the other day, she said they are known as Tory trousers as all the posh kids wear them.

Ha when I was at uni the posh ( public school) kids were known as the yah-yahs.

ElizabethVonArnim · 08/03/2025 08:47

I think they look nice, just right for holidays, and have bought some. That should put the youngsters right off.

stillnotdark · 08/03/2025 08:57

Ds and his girlfriend wear them.
There are some secondhand on Vinted as well.

Uppingham School, Tom Holmes. Tom founded Tom's Trunks after a holiday in Kenya where he discovered the irresistible comfy Kenyan kikoy material, which lead him to set up this successful brand.

dapsnotplimsolls · 08/03/2025 09:09

XXL is 14-16? Bastards!

ThePoshUns · 08/03/2025 09:17

They do look cool I haven't seen anyone wearing them down my way though.

Scoobyblue · 08/03/2025 09:26

My ds has two pairs. He says they are super comfortable. Wears them out and about at uni and took them travelling last year.

Those trousers look just like the roller towels from 1970s school toilets.

We still have one in our work toilet. I can concur!

There’s a lot of boasting on the website about caring and sustainability. But in the end they’re just Made In China like every other brand …

And despite capitalising on a fabric he apparently ‘discovered’ in Kenya, there isn’t a single Black person shown to be in the core team.

Hmm

they look like a tea towel!

keyboardtypo · 08/03/2025 10:31

I live in SW London & am often in Surrey, never seen them.

Lillith111 · 08/03/2025 11:47

Ooh, nice trousers, have ordered a green pair. These poor teens will have to find some other way to look cool 😂

OohKittens · 08/03/2025 12:41

Not my style at all but I feel like my life won't be the same until I get myself a pair, that look so comfy!

sommerjade · 08/03/2025 13:36

The youth round my way live in white sports socks, leggings jeans & traccy bottoms, this is the first I've heard of toms trunks!

Bignanna · 08/03/2025 13:39

They look very long, and don’t seem to do bigger sizes, otherwise I would buy a pair

InigoJollifant · 08/03/2025 16:27

I knew it would be Toms Trunks!

lots on Vinted.

Mummyoflittledragon · 08/03/2025 17:23

My 16 yo dd has a pair. Yes, it’s the poshos that wear them. Mind you, I saw a boy last year wearing the short version. They did look a bit strange. But what do I know, I’m not the target audience. Dd seems to think the shorts look good…

They really do

RunVelma · 08/03/2025 01:11

I’ve never seen anyone wear trousers like those in my life. Never have I felt further away from “Home Counties, wealthy, uni students”. They’ll probably reach us 2 years from now…

That’s so funny. I read the first few comments, saw the link and mentioned to my husband that they look like those old hand towels on the wall in toilets. Then scrolled down and saw your comment!

DD is at Exeter and she estimates that around 70% of students own a pair. Out of her flat of 10 8 of them have them. Along with the Acne Studios scarf that is the other obligatory item of clothing.
