Help with wedding guest dress swanky venue but comfortable and relaxed

I am a guest at a very upmarket out of my comfort zone summer wedding and I need a nice dress to carry me from day to night that looks good and I feel comfortable and relaxed in and that I have made an effort. I am a size 18 to 20 and almost 6ft tall.

Criteria.
Comfortable to wear.
Midi or maxi length (not floor length or mini).
Not overly hot sweat inducing fabric
Not empire line as it really doesn’t suit me.
Either short, capped or little floaty sleeves (not balloon sleeves.
Not heavily structured fabric.
Minimising my tummy.
Not Long Tall Sally (quality shocking).
Not plain navy.

I am in my 50’s and can wear most colours except black, pale pink or yellow.

Hit me with suggestions.

Not sure 9f your still looking. I just came across your post. Chi Chi Lond curve are really good. A dipped hem can be quite flattering too. I m selling mine but it's a deep purple colour so more winter wedding really. Also if you want arms covered can always add a lace bolero. Just seen this one today very summer wedding vibes. https://www.chichiclothing.com/products/plus-size-bardot-lace-midi-dress-in-blue

Still looking. Decided to not go swanky and opt for a dress I like, feel comfortable in, not overly hot and that I could perhaps wear again for another occasion.

How about any of these dresses in the photos (the cream and brown one has a zip down it so I have attached two photos) and if any, any good how would you accessorise them (for a wedding minus a hat without going over the top)?

None showing too much leg, not too low so not showing too much boobs or that I need a special bra for.

Thanks tried one in a plain colour with being tall and having a tummy that high band under the bust does absolutely nothing for me and is really unflattering

I had to wear navy to a wedding last year.
I am 56 and 5ft 7.
I got a lovely Joanna Hope lace dress from Vinted still had tags. It was lined which held my tummy in.

It's the same dress as this link on eBay.
I am also size 18 I was getting lots of compliments.

Thanks can’t have an all navy outfit.

What does anyone think of the photos of the dresses I put on a few posts ago?

Honestly? I LOVE the red Phase Eight dress. I would definitely wear that. I hate the others. I don't think they are really suitable for a wedding.

I think these look like holiday dresses, rather than for wedding

A more conservative silk dress with flutter sleeves, £349

This is pretty too

SnoozingFox · 01/04/2025 08:44

I posted this dress on a previous thread because I think it's gorgeous! In the green, not the purple.

Love the colour of the Phase 8 dress (not sure about the sleeves but good if they suit you). I think you can't go wrong wearing that sort of warm red.

That's such a beautiful dress and can imagine it would work really well in lots of different occasions. What a find!

This dress has a nice shape to it but feel it would be swelteringly hot in a high summer wedding with the long sleeves and it looks like polyester which is usually very warm and not breathable.

I'm with you on the fear of sweating front.

I know this is a shirt dress but Me and Em cut their dresses quite cleverly so if you get the right size it should flatter you. Good colour for summer. I personally would wear with big gold jewellery and nice shoes and it would look dressy enough. Quite a useful dress for other occasions too.

@Thoughtsonstuff that dress is gorgeous and agree with your accessory suggestions but its sadly out of my price range.

Are all the dresses I suggested unsuitable?

Thanks sorry someone else said they were more holiday dresses and not appropriate for a wedding. Its a day do which carries on into night but no dancing or music so quite a quite wedding.

Definitely not the first dress of the theee you posted - it’s too casual. The second one is ok but a bit boring and the collar makes it look a bit strange. The Phase Eight dress is ok but not really special in my opinion. Have you looked at Me and Em? You could also get something and alter the length.

The OP said out of price range. Although Me and Em are great, some of their dresses are so expensive for what is technically a high street store albeit high end. The silk ones are amazing but just begging to be immediately split on which is exactly what I do to all my nice clothes.

They’re supposed to be flattering for those with big tummies!
