What do you think of this cardigan for a winter wedding?

I'm not a fashion - savvy person at all, and I don't do dresses or skirts. I have a winter wedding towards the end of 2025 (I'm already worried about what to wear), and I came across this from Sahara:

Long Cardigan from Sahara

I really like the model's whole ensemble and would feel comfortable in it. But do you think that the cardigan, with its large boucle material, would look too casual? I really want to be comfortable and warm!

(edited for spelling!)

I’d get a nice bright coat and wear it over a blouse and velvet trousers, or a velvet suit. Should be lots of wintery stuff in the sale as well move into spring! https://www.laredoute.co.uk/ppdp/prod-350306066.aspx?dim1=6&dim2=1&cod=Google-PPC-Shopping-21584646422-&gad_source=1

Sainsbury’s had a nice one if you can find it on Vinted or EBay https://www.argos.co.uk/product/tuc144664615

It looks cosy and comfortable but the texture and colour are both dreary and frumpy, not appropriate for a wedding. School or supermarket run on a cold drizzly day, or vegging on the sofa watching tv, yes - a wedding, no.

MJOverInvestor · 24/02/2025 08:04

would a cape like this be an option? This one is very expensive I know but it would be warm! www.ebay.co.uk/itm/146346149405?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=21moS6lBQVC&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=n49x2O8xTcG&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Could you copy the silhouette of the cardigan outfit, but slightly more dressy fabrics? E.g. a silky or velvety long straight jacket, fairly unstructured, with palazzos?

Thanks - that’s a very good idea and what I’ve decided to do .

If you read the thread, you will see that I moved on from the cardigan very quickly.

@LaundryFairy

Have you seen anything else which appeals to you, OP?

TheSquareMile · 24/02/2025 12:13

@LaundryFairy

Would something like this suit you?

Wow, I love that

I think it’s too casual and looks like a dressing gown.

It's too casual for a wedding but I think it's quite stylish for a very informal occasion

LaundryFairy · 24/02/2025 20:04

Update: I have bought a lovely long coat in the sale to wear over trousers and a fine knit top . Thanks for the many helpful suggestions and links.

And to the many people who don’t seem to bother with reading threads before posting, I didn’t buy the bloody cardigan!

That sounds perfect. Could you post a link to your lovely long coat?

Definitely not posting a link! I love the coat, I think it is splendid and suitable , but I know Mumsnet well enough to know that plenty of people won’t share my opinion and will delight in telling me what a terrible mistake I’ve made.
So, again, thanks for all of the help and useful advice, and I shall leave it at that.

Ah, ok, I understand. Glad you've found something great, though.

Mulledjuice · 25/02/2025 10:43

@LaundryFairy may I suggest you consider a brooch for the coat (buy secondhand or borrow) - a winter wedding would be such a nice opportunity to wear one! And once on it's not fussy jewellery, and you don't have to worry about getting tangled the way you might with a scarf, if mobility is an issue.
I have also taken great pleasure in getting new gloves to go with a nice new coat especially for a winter wedding - matching or contrast.

Have a lovely time.

Looks mediaeval!

thehorsesareallidiots · 25/02/2025 15:41

A blazer or kimono with smart trousers and top would work. If I were you I might look for a beautiful silky kimono that would give you loose comfortable vibes while being smart and weddingworthy.

lilacmamacat · 25/02/2025 17:29

I like it but I do agree that the whole outfit is too casual/officey for a wedding. Also, £200 for a cardigan that's 65% synthetics? How about a long jacket or coaty kind of thing in boiled wool? Or if you know someone who sews, this might work StyleArc's Parker Coat I have something similar (and old now!) from NoaNoa that I've worn to weddings, and it worked fine.

LaundryFairy · 25/02/2025 19:59

Blimey - does no one read the thread any more? Cardigan was abandoned within minutes of first post! Coat has been bought!

Have you considered wearing a long cardigan to the wedding @LaundryFairy ? Sahara has a nice one that you might like. Wink

@LaundryFairy , I have a feeling that in a few years' time someone will post on this thread without reading past the thread title. Have a lovely time at the wedding in your fab new coat.
