What do you think of this cardigan for a winter wedding?

I'm not a fashion - savvy person at all, and I don't do dresses or skirts. I have a winter wedding towards the end of 2025 (I'm already worried about what to wear), and I came across this from Sahara:

Long Cardigan from Sahara

I really like the model's whole ensemble and would feel comfortable in it. But do you think that the cardigan, with its large boucle material, would look too casual? I really want to be comfortable and warm!

@LaundryFairy

Are you looking for a warm jacket/coat which you can wear over trousers, OP?

It sounds as though that's more your direction than a skirt/dress.

TheGlamour · 17/02/2025 18:36

@LaundryFairy the singular unsuitability of that cardigan for a formal, celebratory event is really not a matter of fashion. I can’t imagine a time, in British history at least, when citizens were encouraged to seek out their very drabbest clothing to attend a wedding.

There’s very little on the Sahara site that wouldn’t raise a polite eyebrow at a traditional, formal wedding. This might be okay at a relaxed do worn with very well cut tailoring in light colours:

Sahara embroidered jacket

Or there’s a pleated dress and jacket. And a striped ensemble that some people could look very stylish in. But really you may want to look elsewhere.

That's nice, @TimingOff. I especially like the orange/red one, it does have a 'special occasion' feel to it.

Alternatively, @LaundryFairy, would something like this be comfy enough? (It's in the sale, £75)

I recently bought this. Even though it's black it could work if other things had some colour. Plus it's on sale:

Adini BEKA COAT - Adini from Sariska UK

TheGlamour · 17/02/2025 18:57

I’d respectfully disagree, @upsofloating …

upsofloating · 17/02/2025 18:59

Ah,ok 😀

Do you mean that you don't like it at all,or just not for a wedding? Asking for a friend . . .

Wolf & Badger has this amazing full-skirted cardigan at £156,

this emerald silk velvet coat-dress at £225, probably not as warm but very beautiful,

and some rather impressive embroidered silk velvet ones, also £225.

I read "long cardigan", I was about to faint but I must say, it works wonder on the model, the style is perfect, but probs not suitable for a wedding.

I would go for a long but structured kimono. Not something flowy. More of a sturdy cotton fabric.

I like it, and think it’s fine.

Thank you, @ likerocksfalling. I haven't worn it yet but it looked ok in the shop.

GreenCandleWax · 17/02/2025 19:25

I don't think any of these are remotely suitable for a wedding, especially the first two outfits. And all black? I don't think so.

DutifulDaughterWifeMother · 17/02/2025 19:28

@LaundryFairy go & look on the website below. They do fancy cardigans, skirts & dresses. Perfect for a winter wedding.

Hope this is of help to you.

Maybe a long line cardigan but in a silk type material? Agree the wool cardigan is too casual.

TheGlamour · 17/02/2025 19:37

Let’s just say I hope you only paid the sale price. But my opinion is irrelevant if you like it.

No one's opinion is irrelevant. But yes, I did only pay the sale price.

verycloakanddaggers · 17/02/2025 20:22

£195 for a 50% acrylic cardigan? Shock

I would get something in a better fabric.

Plus the colour is not right for a wedding IMO.

Ugh!

I think it’s really ugly. 🤫

This is what I was going to suggest (not the 1st one) - a velvet coat or coat/dress. I'd love an excuse to buy one of these:

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/02/2025 20:54

I think the cardigan is terrible, sorry. I also really dislike that Joe Brown’s coat.

Would something like a White Stuff velvet coat work (never seen one in real life so can’t vouch for them at all) maybe with wide legged silky black trousers and nice shoes?
