What do you think of this cardigan for a winter wedding?

I'm not a fashion - savvy person at all, and I don't do dresses or skirts. I have a winter wedding towards the end of 2025 (I'm already worried about what to wear), and I came across this from Sahara:

Long Cardigan from Sahara

I really like the model's whole ensemble and would feel comfortable in it. But do you think that the cardigan, with its large boucle material, would look too casual? I really want to be comfortable and warm!

It's beautiful and I would wear it just like the model is. But not to a wedding. Sorry that's not helpful.

Love that idea and it’s very much my style - will check it out!

Thanks very much for the links - some good options on the Holland and Cooper website

I don't think any of these are remotely suitable for a wedding, especially the first two outfits. And all black? I don't think so.

For a winter wedding I think they’re fine (I also think black is fine for weddings).

That first cardigan looks like something you’d shuffle about the house in with thick socks on. You really can’t wear that to a wedding.

mdinbc · 17/02/2025 23:32

Have you thought of a velvet trouser and silky top? Here's inspiration from John Lewis. You could find some sort of long kimono topper. Loose, flowy and easy wearing.

Thanks - a lovely suggestion!

I don't like it for a wedding - but I'm more astounded at the price! Who would pay that much for a mostly acrylic garment?

Pieceofpurplesky · 18/02/2025 00:04

@dorathexplorer that jacket is beautiful and perfect for a winter wedding. I love it. I wore a similar summer version but it was silky with the black trousers - meant I could wear comfy flats and dance all night!!

Monsoon have this one

The Cos dress @ScribblingPixie linked to is gorgeous! They have trousers in a matching print, I think it would look really cool to wear the dress open like a jacket, the matching trousers and a plain-ish but bright top to break it up. Green would be nice.

Little Lies have some beautiful kimono type jackets.

My first thought when I saw the cardigan was that a duster coat/jacket would be similar but smarter for a wedding.

If the wedding involves sitting in a rural church, you are going to need a proper woollen coat and probably a hat and a silk scarf. Floating around in velvet will take you to A&E with pneumonia.

mewkins · 18/02/2025 13:06

OP, I'm with you! I hate being cold, especially at a wedding.

If you want something similar to the original outfit but a bit smarter, got for wide leg trousers and maybe a crossover top, maybe in velvet or a dressy fabric. And how about a cloak or cape in felted wool in a lovely jewel colour over the top? (I may have been watching too much Traitors😆)

The last wedding I went too someone dressed casually , tbh they stood out like a sore thumb , I can't remember any other guest clothes but I remember she wore patterned cotton trousers and t.shirt type top. I honestly thought she had somehow lost her wedding outfit. The cardigan looks like something you might meet a friend for lunch in and when it starts to go out of shape walk the dog in. It might have been ok if it was a brighter colour.

@LaundryFairy I just had a look at the shop that sold the cardigan and they have some lovely kimonos which you could wear with trousers and which (in my humble opinion!) would be perfectly suitable for a wedding, e.g

I think it looks nice. Dressing up a bit dated. I come from the Netherlands where people wear shorts and jeans for funerals. Start a trend. At least you can wear the outfit again.

My SIL is Dutch. I was really shocked at her wedding at all the people in jeans. It just looked like they couldn’t be arsed.

TheGlamour · 23/02/2025 11:46

I think it’s highly unlikely that 70 million people are about to suddenly change their wedding cultures and customs because of news from the Netherlands …

Squirrelsnut · 23/02/2025 16:48

Could you copy the silhouette of the cardigan outfit, but slightly more dressy fabrics? E.g. a silky or velvety long straight jacket, fairly unstructured, with palazzos?
