Is there a ‘mum uniform’ where you live?

I was at a play group the other day and noticed that, despite being of varying ages (although mostly 30’s, I’d guess), races and sizes, the mums (including me) were mostly wearing slightly battered Vejas, straight cut jeans, baggy jumpers and some sort of tote (predominantly Mulberry). It’s apparently the uniform in this particular SW London suburb.

Is there a mum ‘uniform’ where you live? If so, what is it?

I'm sad, I love my Veja trainers. Where do they all go once they're deemed unfashionable though I wonder....

Just wear what you want and don’t feel pressured to follow the latest fashion. It’s all a big con to make people spend money on clothes they only buy to stay on trend anyway and just adds to landfill in the long run.

Yellowgoldsunshine · 16/02/2025 18:17

Yes, leggings with either a baggy sweatshirt or a zip jumper with ankle socks over the leggings or wide legged trousers/jeans with a jumper and nice trainers. I actually love these looks! So comfy yet stylish too

Gosh. I didn’t start this thread to be critical, but I have to agree with you - that does sound like quite the look.

This is a popular look for some of the carers in a local SEN school, but they wear crocs, long white socks over dark leggings. Their ages are between 28 and 28yr! It's a horrendous look imo

cramptramp · 16/02/2025 18:19

No definite mum uniform in my grandchildren's playgroup or at school pick up. Lots of different looks, so very mixed. I've seen the white socks over leggings in other areas but where they live is quite posh so wouldn't be worn. I don't notice makes of trainers, so no idea but my daughter tells me no one wears vejas any more. I haven't noticed any Mulberry totes or even totes in particular.

Mrsfantasia · 16/02/2025 18:19

Lots of country/equestrian wear round here. ARIAT and Holland cooper mainly. I wear leggings, dubarry boots, HC hoodie. Rural location so warm and country casual!

Are the long white socks worn over the leggings? I don’t think I’ve seen that look before.

I think its like nike socks over leggings..seems popular in Devon with the mums i see out and about.

My god, that's everywhere here (Brum)

In North Somerset I’ve found pyjamas to be the mum trend with crocs 😳

I'm guitly of socks over leggings! 😂 It started when I was pregnant and I wore compression socks every day. I made it my own look and still do it with compression socks or wool socks depending on weather. And I mean knee-high socks (with patterns/colour). And runners. 😄
I'm in Vancouver, so head to toe Lululemon is common as is topping with a full length puffer as other have mentioned. Uggs also make an appearance, but they're not for me. I have standards. 😭😭😭

No one seems to have mentioned hair in a ballerina bun (me), sleek pony (also, me) or the "messy" versions that are actually carefully constructed. Nails and false lashes are also super common (not me).

My 17 year old has started wearing leggings, socks, and crocks...sometimes converse. I've disowned her over the crocs and socks.

Yes to roughly shin length.

If they are worn with beige leggings they look just like chicken drumsticks

Real wool jumpers, tan brogues or those leather gnome like shoes, some form of legging or flowing skirt (depending on whether mum is cycling or not), ancient leather bag probably bought in India or Morocco, walking windproof anorak.
Guess where I live?

Stroud or Hebden Bridge??

ThisUsernameIsAvailabl · 16/02/2025 18:48

Rural County Antrim here. We're a bit behind. Grans in floral skirts and anoraks. Mums in skinny jeans and anoraks. Dads in super dry,

ShinyPebble32 · 16/02/2025 18:50

Page 20 and still no further clarification on the gnome shoes, very disappointing.

Duechristmas · 16/02/2025 18:50

I now do socks over leggings for the gym, where I am it's only over 40s who hide their socks. It takes me back to secondary school in the mid 80s and I really like the look 🤣

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 16/02/2025 18:51

vejas and mulberry? Where do you live op, 2010?

Merseyside. Gym clothes. They're not going to the gym; they just want you to know they don't need to go to work.
